Description

CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 1 - METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A DISPLAY ELEMENT BY A GAME CONSOLE The present invention relates generally to a method for controlling a display element generated on a display screen by a video game console coupled to a game controller. In particular, the invention relates to controlling the display element when the game controller includes a lever or joystick moved by a user to control the position and/or movement of the display element, which may be an aiming cursor or a scene viewed by an avatar of the user, from a position in the game or a cockpit, for example. It is known in the prior art to use both Cartesian and polar coordinate systems to measure the lever's position, as disclosed in document EP2450776A1. However, it is often necessary to always send coordinates in a Cartesian coordinate system to the game console due to the standardized format used by game consoles. It is common practice to project the measured positions onto a base plane (which might, for example, be perpendicular to the lever when it is in its resting position, such as vertical). In the case where the lever can move within a limited area of travel defined by a mechanical stop (such as a circle, a hexagon or other polygon, any shape or even an ellipse), it is common to send a full-scale signal to the console when the lever is at its stop and along one of the diagonals of the base plane, and not to increase this signal when the lever passes into quarter-circle areas beyond the edges of a square inscribed in a projection of the mechanical stop, and having its vertices on the aforementioned diagonals. CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 2 - The predetermined travel zone of the lever is defined as an area of space within which the lever can move before reaching a stop, for example, against the game controller casing. As is known, this stop can be a circle or a polygon, such as an octagon, a hexagon, or even an ellipse. Consequently, this control method results in a limitation of the travel zone (which has a projected shape of a circle, hexagon, or other polygon, any shape, or an ellipse) to an effective measurement zone (which is the square inscribed in the projected circle). One object of the present invention is to address the drawbacks of the prior art document mentioned above and in particular, firstly, to propose a method for controlling the position and/or displacement of a display element generated on a display screen by a video game console coupled to a game controller comprising a control lever arranged to be moved along at least two degrees of freedom in an area determined by a user, who exploits the entire area of movement of the control lever, while sending Cartesian coordinates to the game console. To this end, a first aspect of the invention relates to a method for controlling the position and/or displacement of a display element generated on a display screen by a video game console coupled to a game controller comprising a control lever arranged to be moved along at least two degrees of freedom in an area determined by a user. The method comprises the steps of: - measuring a position of the control lever in the determined area with at least one sensor outputting at least one electrical signal per degree of freedom, - projecting onto a base plane the position of the control lever measured with said at least one sensor, to determine a first set of coordinates, CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 3 - - determining a circle of positions, centered on a rest position of the control lever and passing through the projected position of the control lever in the base plane, - determining a square circumscribed about the circle of positions, - project at least one coordinate from the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square, - calculate a second set of coordinates in a Cartesian coordinate system, based on the projection of said at least one coordinate from the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square, so that the second set of Cartesian coordinates, which is an image of the first set of coordinates, can be sent to the console. The process according to the implementation above includes a step that allows defining a circumscribed square around the circle of positions (that is, a square that surrounds the circle of positions, and whose sides are each tangent to the circle of positions), which offers the possibility of performing a projection onto one of the sides of the circumscribed square of the position projected into the base plane. This second projection allows going from a projected position that is on the circle of positions to a second projected position (defined by the projection of at least one of the coordinates of the projected position) which is, in turn, located on the circumscribed square. This allows for the easy definition of Cartesian coordinates, and even when the control lever is mechanically stopped by a circular, hexagonal, polygonal, arbitrary, or elliptical stop, the resulting coordinates naturally lie on the circumscribed square of the largest possible circle of positions (because the control lever is mechanically stopped). For lever positions where the projection belongs to both the circle of positions and the circumscribed square, the transformation does not change the coordinates, but for all other positions, the method involves lengthening the magnitude of the position vector (with the projection onto the circumscribed square) to obtain coordinates on a square. CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 4 - Consequently, the projection onto the circumscribed square allows us to define a second position point (with coordinates corresponding to the second set of coordinates) which allows us to construct a second vector between the origin (the rest position) and the second point. The magnitude of this second vector is greater than or equal to the magnitude of a first vector constructed between the origin and the position projected onto the base plane. The magnitudes will be equal only if the control lever is moved along a cardinal direction; everywhere else, the magnitude of the second vector will be greater than the magnitude of the first vector. It should be noted that when the control lever is moved along a cardinal axis (i.e., only vertically or horizontally, or only along the x-axis or y-axis), there is no change in the coordinates because the circle of positions is tangent to the circumscribed square. Consequently, when the control lever is moved anywhere other than along a cardinal axis or to a point where the projected position lies within the circle of positions and the circumscribed square, the projection onto the circumscribed square amounts to increasing or lengthening one of the measured coordinates to define the second set of Cartesian coordinates. Furthermore, the lever can be mounted with a ball joint to a finger relative to the backlash controller; that is, it is movable through two rotations, but not in translation or a third rotation (generally around the lever). However, the method also applies to a lever that is movable through two translations in a plane and is fixed through all three rotations and one translation. As indicated, it is sufficient for the lever to be movable through two degrees of freedom to apply the method that is the subject of the invention. Furthermore, the projection onto the base plane is advantageously an orthogonal projection with respect to the base plane, but an oblique projection can be considered, meaning that the projection direction (CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 5) is not perpendicular to the base plane, but inclined (at least by a few degrees, for example) with respect to the base plane. In other words, the base plane can be perpendicular to the lever when the latter is in its rest position, but this is not necessary to implement the method of the invention. However, care must be taken to maintain good resolution, so that the projection direction will not be inclined by more than 20 degrees, for example, with respect to the base plane. This amounts to performing a projection onto a base plane that is not perpendicular to the control lever in its rest position. Advantageously, the step of projecting at least one coordinate from the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square includes a step of determining a point of projected position as the intersection of an axis carrying a radius of the circle of positions, passing through the projected position, with the circumscribed square. In other words, the projected position is reprojected along the direction of the radius that defines one of the coordinates of a polar or cylindrical coordinate system (the distance from the origin). According to the preferred method, the step of projecting at least one coordinate from the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square includes a step of projecting the projected position onto the circumscribed square, along a projection direction defined by a radius of the circle of positions, passing through the projected position. Advantageously, the step of calculating the second set of Cartesian coordinates comprises: - a step of calculating a first length as the length of a segment connecting the center of the position circle to the projected position, - a step of calculating a second length as the length of a segment connecting the center of the position circle to the point of the projected position (located on the circumscribed square), CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 6 - - a step of multiplying each coordinate of the first set of coordinates by a factor defined by a ratio of the second length to the first length. The first set of coordinates is in the Cartesian system, and the last step of this implementation involves performing a homothety on each coordinate of the first set of coordinates. The homothety ratio is greater than or equal to 1, and is equal to the ratio of the distance from the origin of the projected position point (belonging to the circumscribed square) to the distance from the origin of the projected position (belonging to the circle of positions). The homothety ratio is equal to 1 only when the control lever is moved along a cardinal direction or to a position where the projected position belongs simultaneously to the circle of positions and the circumscribed square. In all other cases, it is greater than 1. In the case of a circular mechanical stop, the ratio is maximum when the control lever is on a diagonal; it is equal to the square root of 2 (approximately 1.414). According to a first alternative, the step of projecting said at least one coordinate of the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square includes at least one step of projecting the projected position onto the circumscribed square, along a projection direction defined by an axis of an orthonormal coordinate system. According to a specific case of the first alternative, the step of projecting at least one coordinate from the first set of coordinates onto the circumscribed square comprises: - a single step of projecting the projected position onto the circumscribed square, along a first projection direction defined by an axis of an orthonormal coordinate system defining the shortest distance between the projected position and the circumscribed square, to define a single projection point. This method avoids calculating conversion factors, thus allowing the second set of coordinates to be transmitted quickly. CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 7 - Advantageously, the second set of Cartesian coordinates is defined by the Cartesian coordinates of the single projection point. Alternatively, the invention relates to a method for controlling the position and/or displacement of a display element generated on a display screen by a video game console coupled to a game controller comprising a control lever arranged to be moved along at least two degrees of freedom within a user-defined area. The method comprises the steps of: - measuring the position of the control lever within the defined area with at least one sensor outputting at least one electrical signal per degree of freedom; - projecting the position of the control lever measured with said at least one sensor onto a base plane to determine a first set of coordinates; - determining an angular sector comprising the projected position of the control lever from among a plurality of predefined angular sectors of the base plane, each angular sector comprising at least one reference point through which passes a reference circle centered on a rest position of the control lever; - determining a reference square circumscribed about the reference circle of the determined angular sector (comprising the projected position); - determining at least one multiplication coefficient defined as a function of the determined angular sector. Based on a projection of the reference point onto the circumscribed reference square, a second set of coordinates is calculated by multiplying each coordinate of the first set by at least one multiplier, so that the second set of Cartesian coordinates, which is an image of the first set, can be sent to the console. The method according to this implementation still uses a projection from a reference circle onto a circumscribed square, but to determine a multiplier valid for a set of points CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 8 - grouped within the same angular sector. In other words, the conversion is done batch by batch of points. However, in the same way as for the first aspect, a projection of a reference point that is part of a circle is used to define a second projected point that is part of a square circumscribed about the circle. Here again, the method allows us to define a second position point (with coordinates corresponding to the second set of coordinates) which enables us to construct a second vector between the origin (the rest position) and the second position point. The magnitude of this second vector is greater than or equal to the magnitude of a first vector constructed between the origin and the projected position in the base plane. The magnitudes will be equal only if the control lever is moved along a cardinal direction or to a position where the projected position lies simultaneously within the circle of positions and its circumscribed square; everywhere else, the magnitude of the second vector will be greater than the magnitude of the first vector. Advantageously, each angular sector of the plurality of predefined angular sectors is defined by the intersection of two straight lines passing through the rest position with two circles centered on the rest position, thus cutting out and covering the entire surface of all possible projections of the control lever position onto the base plane. In other words, each angular sector is a portion of a ring or a quarter of a disk. Further segmentation of the partition or segmentation can be considered in areas farther from the rest position to maintain the same calculation accuracy. Advantageously, the steps of determining the circle of positions, determining the square circumscribed about the circle of positions, projecting at least one coordinate onto the circumscribed square, and calculating the second set of coordinates in a Cartesian coordinate system (depending on the preferred implementation, the first alternative or the second alternative) are performed beforehand for all possible projected positions of the control lever in the base plane, so as to define a predefined conversion table from the first set of coordinates to the second set of coordinates. In other words, the projection steps are performed prior to the use of the game controller, to create a predefined conversion table that is stored in the game controller's computer storage. Consequently, calculations are limited when using the game controller. Advantageously, the predefined conversion table takes as input the first set of coordinates and outputs a coefficient to be multiplied by each coordinate of the first set of coordinates to calculate the second set of coordinates. The calculations are limited to multiplying the first set of coordinates by the coefficient. Advantageously, the predefined conversion table takes as input the first set of coordinates and outputs the second set of coordinates. In other words, the steps of determining the circle of positions, determining the circumscribed square of the circle of positions, projecting at least one coordinate onto the circumscribed square, and calculating the second set of coordinates in a Cartesian coordinate system are performed using a predefined conversion table. This predefined conversion table takes as input the first set of coordinates and outputs a coefficient to be multiplied by each coordinate of the first set of coordinates to calculate the second set of coordinates. Advantageously, the control method includes a step of sending the second set of Cartesian coordinates to the game console. Advantageously, the position and/or displacement of the generated display element on the display screen is modified based on the second set of Cartesian coordinates. CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 1 0 - Advantageously, the steps up to the calculation of the second set of coordinates are performed with a first resolution, and a step is provided to reduce the resolution before the sending of the second set of coordinates, so that the second set of coordinates is sent at a second resolution, lower than the first resolution. This implementation maintains good accuracy during the calculations and allows the second set of coordinates to be sent in a format that does not require significant processing time for the game console or transmission time between the controller and the console. Other features and advantages of the present invention will become clearer upon reading the following detailed description of three embodiments of the invention, given by way of non-limiting examples and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 shows a cross-sectional view of a control lever of a video game controller, for controlling a position and/or movement of a display element generated on a display screen by a video game console coupled to the game controller, by the method according to the invention; - Figure 2 shows a first implementation of the processing of the measured position of the control lever of Figure 1 carried out by the method according to the invention; - Figure 3 shows a second implementation of the processing of the measured position of the control lever of Figure 1 carried out by the method according to the invention; - Figures 4a and 4b show a third implementation of the processing of the measured position of the control lever of Figure 1 carried out by the method according to the invention; CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 -11- - Figure 5 illustrates a control lever that can be moved within a limited area defined by a hexagonal mechanical stop. Figure 1 shows a control lever 10 of a game controller. Such a control lever 10 may also be called a "joystick" or "stick". Typically, such a control lever 10 is located on the upper surface of a game controller so that it can be operated and moved by a user of a video game console to, for example, move a character, move a crosshair, or move a virtual camera in a video game. In general, the control lever 10 is therefore movable relative to a housing 20 of the video game controller, and can be articulated relative to the housing 20 via a ball joint as shown in Figure 1. Other connections between the control lever 10 and the housing 20 are possible, such as a connection that only allows planar movement of the control lever 10. However, the control lever 10 can only be moved within a predefined range of motion, limited by a circular stop 20a. In the case shown, the stop 20a is an edge of the housing 20, forming a hole through which the control lever 10 passes. The following description therefore relates to a circular shape of the mechanical stop, and other stop shapes are possible and will be discussed after the description of this particular mode. In order to detect the movements of the control lever 10, the latter is connected to at least one position sensor 12, such as a potentiometer. Such a position sensor 12 allows the movements of the control lever 10 to be detected, and thus to calculate, for example, a position of a point PL of the control lever 10. In the present case, the control lever 10 can be moved here according to two degrees of freedom, so that it is of course possible to provide two position sensors, or a single position sensor with two CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 12 - measurement tracks to accurately measure all the positions that the control lever 10 can occupy. The stop 20a is a circle (of course, as mentioned above, other stop geometries are possible: polygon, octagon, hexagon, ellipse), and if we project the positions of point PL into a base plane, perpendicular to the control lever when the latter is in the rest position (as shown in Figure 1 in solid lines), the projected positions are all contained within a stop circle Cm visible in Figures 2 or 3. The base plane can be inclined at a few degrees from a plane perpendicular to the control lever when the latter is in the rest position, and then the projection of the circular mechanical stop will be an ellipse in this inclined plane. Indeed, figures 2 and 3 show the limit circle Cm, which is the limit of the movement of the control lever 10. Conventionally, it is understood that when the control lever 10 is at its limit, the game controller must send the game console the information that the magnitude of the movement is maximum when the control lever 10 is at its limit. However, while the movement of the control lever 10 is limited by a circle, the game console must receive the position of the control lever 10 in the form of a set of Cartesian coordinates, and the magnitude of a vector between the origin of the Cartesian coordinate system and the position projected onto the basis plane must be maximum. In the Cartesian coordinate system (x-x'; y-y') shown in figures 2 and 3, when the control lever 10 is at its limit upwards, along a 45° diagonal, the signal sent to the console must be at full scale, so the Cartesian coordinates are then, for example, (1, 1). However, if we draw an inscribed square Cim in the circle Cm, and if the control lever 10 is moved upwards out of the inscribed square Cim, and still within the circle Cm without being at its stop, it would be necessary to further increase the coordinate along CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 13 - the y'-y axis, but this would distort the interpretation made by the console because the magnitude of the vector between the origin and the projected position in the base plane would be greater than that of the vector when the control lever 10 is at its stop on the diagonal. Consequently, there would be an inconsistency in the intensity of the displacement reported by the console: intensity 1 when the projected position of the control lever is on the diagonal at 45° and on the circle Cm (control lever 10 at its 45° stop), and a higher intensity when the projected position of the control lever is outside the inscribed square Cim, but not on the circle Cm (control lever 10 not at its stop). To avoid this inconsistency, as soon as the projected position of control lever 10 leaves the inscribed square Cim, one of the Cartesian coordinates is set to 1, which is equivalent to ignoring four displacement zones, which are quadrants of disks defined by the areas of the stop circle Cm that are outside the inscribed square Cim. It is understood that when the control lever 10 is moved along a cardinal direction (the projected position is therefore on one of the axes yy' or xx'), full scale is reached as soon as the projected position is on or beyond the inscribed square Cim. To overcome this drawback, and to take into account the entire movement area of the stop circle Cm, the invention proposes calculating the coordinate set that will be sent to the game console by performing a homothety from the projected position of the control lever in the base plane. Figure 2 shows a first implementation of this calculation, in two scenarios. In the first scenario, the control lever is in position A, and the projected position in the base plane has coordinates (ai, a2). First, a circle of positions Cp is defined, which (CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 14) passes through the projected position with coordinates (ai, a2), and is centered on the rest position of the control lever (the origin of the coordinate system (xx', yy')). Next, the process defines a circumscribed square Ccp around the circle of positions Cp, and determines the point of intersection of the radius passing through the projected position with coordinates (ai, a2) with the circumscribed square Ccp, which has coordinates (ai, a'2). These are the coordinates (ai, a'2) that will be sent to the game console. To calculate them, the length of the radius R1 of the circle of positions passing through the point (ai, a2) is determined using the Pythagorean theorem (equation 1). Next, we determine the length R2 of the segment whose endpoints are the origin of the coordinate system and the point with coordinates (a'l, a'2) using Thales' theorem (equation 2). Equation 1: R1 = \[(a12 + a22)] Equation 2: R2 = (a12 + a22)/a2 It then remains to multiply each coordinate of the first set of coordinates (ai, a2) by the ratio R2/R1 to find the coordinates of the second set of coordinates (al, a'2). The process thus performs a homothety based on a difference in dimension between the circle of positions Cp and its circumscribed square Ccp. We artificially "increase" or "displace" the projected position onto the circumscribed square Ccp to find the second set of coordinates. This is a projection along the radial direction. It should be noted that the second set of coordinates is equal to the first set of coordinates when the control lever is moved only in a cardinal direction (along the xx' or yy' axis): the homothety is then of a ratio of 1. Furthermore, the homothety ratio is maximal when the CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 15 - control lever 10 is moved along a diagonal: the ratio is then approximately 1.414, that is to say, the square root of 2. Consequently, the console does indeed receive a second set of Cartesian coordinates, with the full scale only when the control lever is at its limit, and this without ignoring any measurement area. Position B in Figure 2 represents the control lever 10 at its stop, and the coordinates of the projected position are (b1, b2), located on the stop circle Cm. The transformation involves calculating the projection of the projected position onto the circumscribed square Ccm along the radial direction passing through the projected position, to calculate the second set of coordinates (b11, b'2) which will be sent to the console. The method according to the invention can perform the steps of determining the position circle Cp, the circumscribed square Ccp, and the projection for each measurement of the position of the control lever 10 to calculate the second set of coordinates with the homothety ratio, or a predefined table can be built by calculating the homothety ratio for all possible positions, storing this predefined table in the game controller, and simply searching for the appropriate ratio based on a measured position, and multiplying the measured coordinates by the appropriate ratio to find the second set of coordinates. Alternatively, the second set of coordinates can be stored directly in the predefined table. Figure 3 represents a first alternative. In this alternative, the determination of the circle of positions Cp and the circumscribed square Ccp is identical. However, instead of projecting the projected position along the radial direction, the method performs a single projection parallel to one of the axes xx' or yy', and in particular towards the side of the circumscribed square that is closest, to find the second set of Cartesian coordinates to be sent to the game console. In particular, in the case where the control lever 10 is in position A, the projected position has as its first set of coordinates CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 16 - (al , a2). The nearest side of the circumscribed square Ccp is the upper horizontal side, so the coordinates of the second set of coordinates will be (ai, a'2), with: ai = al a'2 = -\l(a12 + a22) In the case where the control lever 10 is in position B (at the stop), the projected position (on the circle Cm) has for its first set of coordinates (Di, b2), and the nearest side of the circumscribed square Ccm is the vertical right side, so the projection of the projected position onto the circumscribed square Ccm will have for its second set of coordinates (b11, b'2) with: b'l = -\l(b12 + b22) b'2 = b2 Figures 4a and 4b represent a third possible implementation to determine the second set of Cartesian coordinates to send to the game console. In this implementation, the stop circle Cm and its circumscribed square are not shown, to avoid cluttering the figures. Indeed, the entire surface of the stop circle Cm is divided into angular sectors Si. Only one is visible in Figure 4a, and it is the one that encompasses the projected position of the control lever 10 in position A. The angular sector in question, Si, is a portion of a ring delimited laterally (or angularly) by two straight lines passing through the center of the coordinate system (the rest position of the control lever 10). The entire surface of the stop circle Cm is divided by angular sectors, so it is possible to identify, for each projected position of the control lever, a specific angular sector that contains it. For each angular sector, it is possible to define a reference point contained within that angular sector, a circle of positions Cp passing through this reference point, and a circumscribed square Ccp around this circle. It is then possible to determine the projection of the reference point onto the circumscribed square Ccp, along the radial direction, and to determine a multiplier as the ratio of the lengths of the segment connecting the projection of the reference point (onto the circumscribed square Ccp) to the origin, and the radius of the circle of positions. This applies to each angular sector Si. Consequently, for each element point of a particular angular sector Si, it is possible to multiply its coordinates from the first set of coordinates by the multiplier specific to that sector to calculate the second set of coordinates. As shown in Figure 4b, all points of the angular sector Si are projected onto a substantially square angular sector Si using the same multiplication factor. In other words, the method performs batch or sector-by-sector processing to limit the calculations required, using a multiplication factor table stored in the game controller. This table provides the value of the multiplication factor to be used based on the angular sector Si containing the projected position. Naturally, if there are two dimensions, the multiplication factor comprises two values, one for each dimension. It will be understood that various modifications and/or improvements, obvious to those skilled in the art, can be made to the different embodiments of the invention described herein without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the attached claims. In particular, reference is made to a first set of coordinates, but the format of this first set of coordinates is not specified. The invention can operate with a first set of cylindrical, spherical, or even Cartesian coordinates. As mentioned above, the case of a circular mechanical stop has been dealt with in detail, but one can consider, for example, the case of a hexagonal mechanical stop, as shown in Figure 5. CA 03033332 2019-02-07 WO 2018/033590 PCT/EP2017/070812 - 18 - The method is identical, with a projection of the lever position onto a base plane, then a determination of a circle of positions which passes through the projected position of the control lever, then the projection of the projected position onto a square circumscribed by the circle of positions. However, when the control lever reaches its mechanical stop against the housing, it cannot move beyond the hexagonal shape shown in Figure 5. If the control lever is moved only along the xx' axis, it quickly reaches its stop against the housing, and a first circle of positions Crni can be determined, as well as a first circumscribed square Ceml. If the control lever is moved only along the yy' axis, it can be moved further before reaching its stop against the housing (at a vertex of the hexagon), and a second circle of positions Cm2 can be determined, as well as a second circumscribed square Ccm2. Since the second circumscribed square Ccm2 is larger than the first circumscribed square Ceml, there is a distortion in the resulting second set of coordinates. This distortion naturally has a higher magnitude when the lever reaches its mechanical stop at a vertex (second circumscribed square Ccm2) rather than at the midpoint of a side (first circumscribed square Cem-1). However, this distortion is introduced by the shape of the mechanical stop, not by the method of the present invention. It can also be noted that the control lever cannot reach the vertices of the polygonal shape of the mechanical stop (because the control lever has a diameter that will reach the two sides forming the vertex by intersection), which simply amounts to "rounding" the vertices of the hexagon shown to obtain the possible positions of the control lever at its stop. The method involving projection onto the base plane, determination of the circle of positions, the circumscribed square, and the projections remains the same.
