Abstract
The invention provides both a device and processes for a two-part lottery scheme using a ticket device, including laminated ticket, with perforated windows or tabs on the top-side of the device, or scratch-off.
Description
The first part of the ticket device is an instant break open raffle ticket in the upper portion of the ticket device; the second part is a ticket for a raffle that is entered into a subsequent draw. This ticket for the subsequent raffle draw would be the bottom portion of the ticket, easily torn-off due to perforations that run across the face of the ticket device. The process for access to information and providing direction ensures compliance by the lottery licensee with its legal obligations under the Criminal Code.
Claims
Claim 1 A ticket device in which the upper portion of the ticket is comprised of 3 to 5 perforated windows, which "break open" when the ticket device is bend from side-to-side revealing symbols the combination of which symbols are either "winning" or "losing" combinations for the instant break open ticket raffle portion. The lower portion of the tickets is comprised of (a) 1 perforated window, which "breaks open"
when the ticket device is bend from side-to-side revealing a bar code and serial number, or (b) an area for the player to scratch-off a covering revealing a bar code and serial number, or (c) an area with a bar code.
Claim 2 A process by which the bar code or serial number on the ticket device is entered into the electronic "drum" using the retailer's point of sale. Serial numbers for the sold and entered tickets are included in the subsequent raffle. The player would retain the bottom portion as proof of purchase of the ticket bearing the winning serial number.
Claim 3 A process by which the "deal" for both the instant break open raffle ticket and the subsequent raffle would be a finite deal, such as 401,280 ticket devices distributed in 190 individual games of 2112 ticket devices per game. The ticket devices would be packaged and distributed on a "random but equal" basis.
Ticket devices would be distributed through retail sites within a geographic region for sale to the public.
Claim 4 A process by which the retailer would sell individual tickets and record each sale using its point of sale and pay as agent of the lottery licensee the instant break open raffle ticket prize to eligible players. The subsequent raffle draw prize would be paid by the lottery licensee. This draw would be carried out using an electronic random number generator.
Claim 3 A process by which the bar code or serial number would also be used for ticket sale tracking and other control activities, in addition to being the representation of the ticket number for purposes of the subsequent raffle draw. The information would be uploaded for use by the lottery licensee as part of its conduct and management responsibilities under the Criminal Code. The bar code would also provide information for a tote system that provides information about ticket sales and, thus, the prize amount for the subsequent raffle as the prize amount is a percent of tickets sales.
