Abstract
Bonded truss plates are applied to any side of the truss for the specific placement locations, to provide additional strength to the joint it was designed for and additional load bearing capacity to a structural wooden product. The bonded plate wood trusses provide an innovative method of fixing the weak/crack portion of the trusses by using a steel plate bonded with an adhesive to the steel connectors of trusses. The adhesive bonding provides transfer of axial forces in the wood truss members to provide additional tensile and shear strength than that of the original truss plate which is very crucial for the transfer of the forces and the stability of the joint; and the same may be applied to the broken members of the truss or to repair incorrectly positioned trusses.
Description
Bonded Plate wood trusses Most of the wood trusses are manufactured with truss plates embedded on both sides of the trusses at various joints.
The manufacturing process currently being used is guessing the placement of one plate that is placed underneath the truss. Many times truss manufacturers ignore this misplacement that can have serious repercussions in the future as this reduces the strength of plate in action that was designed for various axial compressive, tensile and shear forces.
Second many trusses when being delivered and installed on the site, may have many of its members cracked or broken and it becomes cumbersome to repair them with scabs using nails or screws. It some times is not possible to repair this way when axial forces are large and members are short in length. Moreover, it causes more cracks in wood, when hammering nails.
To repair both the above issues, a new method of using a bonding plate of thin galvanized steel is invented with special formulated adhesive to apply on the installed trusses. This plate will have double the shear and tensile strength of original truss plate and will be designed for various axial compressive and tensile forces.

Claims (3)
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A process for applying a special steel plate with special adhesive over the truss plated joints. Forming a structural joint to transfer axial forces and to resist tensile, compressive and shear forces.
2. A process as defined in claim 1, in which the bonded plate is clamped to the cracked or misplaced truss plated joints. The process consists of applying water activated adhesive to bond with a special steel plates to wood and steel surface.
3. A process as claimed in claim 2, in which the Bonding plate is placed and left for curing before clamps are removed.
The inventor would like to have the only right to repair trusses like defined in the abstract of our patent application i.e. to use composite action of steel and adhesive to repair wood trusses. The bonding plate can be used over the wood directly or on the top of existing steel truss plates.
As the application of bonding plate is an innovative method of fixing the misplacement of plates in the truss manufacturing shops and repairing trusses for the cracks or breaks in the various members of the roof and floor trusses.
