Abstract

The present concept is a combination of a cutting surface, a debris container, and a vacuum cleaner. The combination includes a hollow container defining a substantially enclosed upper and lower debris chambers. The container further includes a divider spaced from an elevated planar cutting surface, the cutting surface is for supporting a work piece to be cut.
There is an elongated opening in the cutting surface for placing the work piece there across and for allowing fresh air to be drawn into the container. The container includes an outlet within a top section of the container, wherein the outlet for coupling one end of a vacuum hose to the container. The other end of the hose coupled to an inlet port in fluid communication with a vacuum mounted in a middle chamber. When cutting the work piece debris generated from the cutting is drawn into the container and large particles drop to the divider and fine particles are extracted out of the upper chamber by the vacuum and drawn into the lower chamber and through the vacuum filter.

Description

COMBINATION VACUUM, TILE CUTTING AND
DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM
Field of the Invention [00011 The present concept relates to a system for tile cutting, dust collection and providing for a vacuum and more particular relates to a portable system of tile cutting, dust collection and vacuuming.
Summary of the Invention
[0002] In combination a cutting surface and debris container and vacuum cleaner, the combination comprises;
a. a hollow container defining a substantially enclosed upper and lower debris chambers;
b. the container includes a divider spaced from an elevated planar cutting surface, the cutting surface for supporting a work piece to be cut;
c. an elongated opening in the cutting surface for placing the work piece there across and for allowing fresh air to be drawn into the container;
d. an outlet within a top section of the container, the outlet for coupling on end of a vacuum hose to the container;
e. the other end of the hose coupled to an inlet port in fluid communication with a vacuum mounted in a middle chamber;

f. such that upon cutting the work piece debris generated from the cutting is drawn into the container and large particles drop to the divider and fine particles are extracted out of the upper chamber by the vacuum drawn into the lower chamber and into the vacuum;
Background of the Invention
[0003] The installation of ceramic or other porcelain tile and or other hard flooring materials such as slate or granite inevitably leads to the cutting of these materials in order to fit them into specific locations.
[0004] There are number of methods of cutting tile including wet cut off saws and also dry cut off saws. In practice, the wet cut off saws tend to be significantly slower and more cumbersome than dry cut off saws however, the dry cut off saws tend to create a lot of dust. In this application, dry cut off saws are referred to as motorized cutting tools or simply cutters which come in various sizes and shapes and have the ability to have mounted thereon various size cutting wheels.
[0005] The draw back with using a dry motorized cutting tool is the amount of debris and dust that is generated which is particularly undesirable in interior locations such as residential homes, or commercial buildings.
[0006] In addition, there is a safety aspect to the dust particles generated from cutting of tile and is highly undesirable to inhale the dust particles which are generated when tile is cut using dry motorized cutting tools.
[0007] Therefore, there is a need for a device that is able to control the release of dust and particulate matter when cutting tile which is portable and has the ability to easily be moved from one job site to another.
Brief Description of the Drawings
[0008] The present concept will now be described by way of example only with reference to the following drawings in which:
[0009] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the COMBINATION VACUUM TILE
CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM showing the major components namely, the container, the vacuum, and the diverter hose.
[00010] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of the COMBINATION VACUUM TILE
CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM shown in Figure 1 rotated approximately 90 degrees towards the reader.
[00011] Figure 3 is a top plan view of the cutting surface showing the various dust collection openings.
[00012] Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the container.
[00013] Figure 5 is a cross sectional view of the lid.
[00014] Figure 6 is a cross sectional view of the bottom.
[00015] Figure 7 is an alternate embodiment of the present concept a COMBINATION VACUUM TILE CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM
showing the major components namely the container, the vacuum and the internal diverter passageway.
[00016] Figure 8 is a schematic diagram of the COMBINATION VACUUM TILE
CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM shown in Figure 7 rotated 90 degrees toward the reader.
Detailed Description of the preferred embodiments
[00017] The present concept a COMBINATION VACUUM TILE CUTTING AND
DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM includes the following major components namely, container 102 having a lid 104 mounted thereon and held in place with a band 106.
Container 102 includes an upper chamber 108, a middle chamber 110 and a lower chamber 118. The COMBINATION VACUUM TILE CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION
SYSTEM 100 further includes a diverter hose 116 which is connected at an upper end to an outlet port 112 and a lower end to an inlet port 114 thereby drawing air from the upper chamber 108 into the lower chamber 118 by vacuum 122. Fine dust particles are caught by dust filter 140 and vacuum 122 exhausts air through exhaust port 120. Upper chamber 108 and middle chamber 110 are divided by divider 160 and middle chamber 110 is divided from lower chamber 118 by vacuum 122.
[00018] Now referring to Figures 3 and 5 lid 104 includes a cutting surface 142 which includes a central opening 124 and a first peripheral opening 126 and a second peripheral opening 128. The periphery 130 of lid 104 is shown.
[00019] Figures 7 and 8 show an alternate embodiment namely COMBINATION
VACUUM TILE CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM 200 which includes most of the same major components as dust collection system 100 except rather than having an external diverter hose 116 there is an internal diverter passageway 150 as depicted in 200.
[00020] Therefore the difference between the embodiment shown in Figure 1 and embodiment shown in Figure 7 is that in Figure 1 the unit could be used as a conventional vacuum cleaner by simply disconnecting diverter hose 116 at outlet port 112 and using the diverter hose 116 with other hoses and attachments to be able to use it as a standard vacuum cleaner for carpets and or other vacuuming requirements. This capability is not available in Figure 7 where there is an internal diverter passageway 150. In other words, vacuum 222 is a dedicated unit within container 202 whereas in the first embodiment by disconnecting the diverter hose 116 one is able to utilize the vacuum 122 portion of COMBINATION VACUUM TILE CUTTING AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM as a traditional vacuum cleaner rather than simply as a tile cutting surface 142 with a dust collection system.
[00021] In use, when placing a tile on cutting surface 142 one is able to make a cut such that the blade is positioned over top of central opening 124 thereby not impinging on the lid 104 itself. Dust as it is generated is drawn down through not only central opening 124 but also through first peripheral opening 126 and second peripheral opening 128 as air is drawn through and into upper chamber 108. Larger particles are collected on the bottom of divider 160 and the finer particles are drawn down into lower chamber 118 and finally caught by dust filter 140. Clean air is exhausted out through exhaust port 120. Vacuum 122 can be any type known in the art however, possibly preferably could be of the Shop-Vac style.
