Abstract

This innovation is categorized as a medical device health aid. Covid ICU patients, pregnant women and the elderly are often afflicted with health concerns related to their horizontal/side positioning in beds during care. Common afflictions such as sleep apnea are also related to sleeping position. Bed sores are positional in incubation and they can lead to severe infections and increased patient mortality. This innovation is a preventative device that allows health care professionals and care aids to rotate patients in 45 degree inclinations **(New)**by" using handles positioned across the bottom and Top of the Pillowombs". By using two Pillowomb's facing each other, ICU teams will be able to intubate then rotate patients with increased ease with four 45degree rotations thus lightening workloads and reducing staffing by up to3 health care aids in attendance for current intubating rotation. This device also allows for a 100% increase in sleeping and bed positions by altering the torso's position by 45 degrees. This ads 4 new bed positions to the already 4 existing positions, front, back, left and right sides. These new positions relieve the body mass weight pressure points by an even redistribution of the body mass weight across a larger area by providing gentle womb like support for the patient within the structure of the device. Patients can more readily find comfort therefore experiencing increased sleep times. This boosts the immune system, therefore reducing stay times and a reduction in the need for expensive longer term institutional care.

Description

Abstract This innovation is categorized as a medical/sleep/pain relief aid. Long term patients, pregnant women and the elderly are often afflicted with health concerns related to their horizontal positioning in beds during care. Common afflictions such as bed sores and sciatica nerve pain can be extremely painful. In bed sores case they can lead to severe infections and increased patient mortality. This innovation is a preventative device that slows the development of bed sores, helps relieve the pressure of sciatica pain and will assist advanced pregnancies with comfort allowing increased sleep length times. This device allows for a 100% increase in sleeping and bed positions by altering the torso's position by 45 degrees. This ads 4 new bed positions to the already 4 existing positions, front, back, left and right sides. These new positions relieve the body mass weight pressure points by an even redistribution of the body mass weight across a larger area by providing gentle womb like support for the patient within the structure of the device.
Claims This device will reduce the development of bed sores and allow for a non disruptive repositioning of the patient. Previously, to shift a patient from side to side required two attendants who must lift and turn the patient 180 degrees. With this device one attendant can shift a patient from side to side by only moving the device by 90 degrees. The patient is firmly and comfortably held in place by the contours of the device that surrounds them from their shoulders to below their buttocks., or from their chest to their mid thighs. This device redistributes the body weight pressure points of the patient across a larger area so that patients with bed sores, sciatica nerve pain and pregnant women can more readily find comfort therefore experiencing increased sleep times. This boosts the immune system, therefore reducing stay times and a reduction in the need for expensive longer term institutional care.
