Description
CHILD-FRIENDLY REMOTE CONTROLLED NIGHT LIGHT TO REPEL
MONSTERS
Field of Invention The field of invention resides in the application of helping children overcome the fear of the dark. In particular, it enables a child to control a timed light placed in strategic locations to disperse imaginary monsters or other imaginary specters through means of a child-centered interface.
Background of the invention Children all over the world are afraid of the dark, especially of monsters under the bed or in the closet. Giving a child control over these monsters, through the assistance of a stuffed creature as a comforter and protector, helps the child's emotional well-being. In particular, via this creature a child can control a night light from their night stand or from their bed.
This is an improvement above other remote control devices in this classification which have a negative or neutral emotional connection to the child.
The current invention incorporates the use of bright white LEDs to push out shadows and gives the child the confidence that no monsters or imaginary creatures are present.
A preset timer allows for a sufficient time to settle, the child and the gradual dimming light at the end of the preset cycle removes fear of sudden darkness. At any time the child can reactivate the timer and reset it to the beginning of the cycle. This overcomes issues of other nightlights that stay on permanently and may to reduce sleep effectiveness.
Description of the drawings Figure 1 broadly represents the stuffed creature with paw activating night light circuit.
Figure 2 represents the night light.
Figure 3 is a photograph of an example embodiment of the stuffed creature Figure 4 is a photograph of an example embodiment of the night light portion of the applicant's invention Detail Description An embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings.
Figure 1 broadly represents a stuffed creature, in this example being a teddy bear with a security outfit.
The stuffed creature consists of exterior plush fabric 1-1, and an authoritative outfit 1-2. The interior consists of plush stuffing material 1-3, a momentary switch 1-4, a PCB containing a signaling device 1-5, and a battery pack 1-6.
Figure 2 broadly represents the night light. The exterior housing is embodied as a plastic dome-shaped enclosure with dimensions of approximately 4" 2-1 by 1.6" 2-2. It consists of a base 2-3, a spring-loaded dome-shaped cover 2-4, and a logo 2-5. The enclosure houses the electronic PCB 2-6, the light(s) 2-7 the on/off switch 2-8 and the batteries 2-9.
The back of the night light 2-10 can be secured underneath the bed facing downwards by means of screws, tape, magnets or other securing devices or simply placed on a level surface.
Figure 1-3 represents the switch which is placed in the paw or hand of the said creature and activates the transmitter circuit 1-5. The pulse signal from the circuit 1-5 is transmitted via electric wires, infrared light, radio frequency, ultrasonic transmission or by any other remote means, and received by electronic circuit 2-11. The stuffed creature 1-1 can be powered with

-2-the self contained battery pack 1-6 or wired to the night light power source.
Upon the reception of a pulsed signal, the receiving circuit 2-11 activates a preset electronic timer which activates the LED(s) or other light array consisting of one or more light emitting devices 2-5. After the preset timer has expired, the light intensity fades through mechanical or electronic means and turns off the light. With every reactivation of the momentary switch 1-4, the timer will reset and 55 start from its initial cycle. The night light, figure 2, may be powered by means of batteries, wall adapter, or any other means.
