"Scent-O's "
Field of the invention The invention generally relates to an apparatus producing a mixture of smoke, steam or fog and airborne fragrances into a traveling, toroidal vortex when activated.
Background of the Invention Smoke ring vortex makers have been seen on T.V and in school science fairs for some time now.
There exists a toy gun that shoots a smoke ring for children, see (Patent CA
2428108).
The invention is the combination of, a smoke ring generator and a scented toroidal generator, with specific processes that increase the quality of the scent experience and the visual presentation of the torodial. This is due to the difference in scent delivery technologies used in this invention and that of scented smoke cannons, for example. Conventional use of scented smoke or fog is done with a heat transformation, meaning that the fragrance is either vaporized along with the smoke fluid or vaporized independently. This heat exchange changes the fragrance's molecular structure and in turn changes the scent's effect. The invention uses a method called nebulization, another term would be atomizing. The scent delivery technology used in the invention breaks apart the fragrance into a gaseous state, without heat and therefore, the fragrance remains intact in its original state and quality. Conventional scented smoke also has the drawback of being limited in reach by either wind if outdoors or natural expansion and slow air currents indoor. The invention propels the scent across entire rooms, halls even outdoor festival dance floors. (The size of the body and the power of the piston / arm are what determine the distance potential) The invention has the range and ability to affect a much larger area this way.
The Invention's purpose is to produce smoke rings that have been scented with the highest quality airborne fragrances in a programmable manner for entertainment and marketing purposes.
An example use of this invention:
Provide visual and fragrant entertainment at a live musical show and/or event and/or festival.
Summary of the invention The invention is a programmable scented smoke ring generator. Composed of these main elements:
-1: A sealed hollow cube box (preferably built of wood or plastic) with a circular hole cut out of its face.
Diameter of the hole = 50% of the width of the cube. ( + or- 15% ) * Any sealed hollow geometric shape can be used, as long as the ratio is respected between the hole and the surface area. (1) -2: A smoke or fog generator preferably water based and programmable via micro controllers or remotely. Dry ice fog generator can also be used.
-3: A scent delivery system, a nebulizer or atomizer of essential and/or synthetic oils. * used (The Aroscent portable http://www.air-aroma.ca/aroscent) -4: An electrical, programmable, forward and backward motion piston or electronic arm. (This motion in length is= 40% of the width of the cube +or- 10 %) A micro controller controls the motion of the piston or electronic arm.
- 5: A microcontroller such as (an Arduino http://arduino.cc/en/ ) controls all the other electronic components in sequence in order to achieve a successfully scented and projected smoke ring.
- 6: A thin rigid plastic square plate (size: one side length is 40% width of the box) is attached to the end of the piston or arm, the part furthest to the hole of the cube.
-7: An impermeable and malleable fabric to seal from the plastic plate to the inner walls of the cube, using strong Velcro.
-8: A heat resistant plastic ramp curled and molded to aid the smoke out of the generator into the center of the chamber. This component is small like a human hand and if you cup your hand and make a "C" the idea, shape and purpose is revealed more visually.
-9: An aperture installed to shut the hole while the cube fills with smoke and quickly open when the piston or arm applies pressure. This reduces the leakage and increases visibility of the smoke rings. This will be controlled electronically by the microcontroller.
-10: 3 servo motors control the X Y Z direction and angle of the cube's stand which has X Y Z axis movability. These motors are programmed and controlled via software and the microcontroller.
In order to generate a successful smoke ring you must have all the above mentioned components rightly set into the cube as follows;
-The piston or arm is set solidly in the center of the box in the rear with the plastic square aimed at the hole in the cube with the forward motion towards the hole.
-The scent delivery system is set tightly to the side of the cube on the floor, taking as little space as possible, furthest from the center as possible. This is in between the hole and the piston, within the cube.
-The smoke or fog generator is set to the opposing side of the scent delivery system, on the floor of the chamber, taking as little space as possible, furthest from the center as possible. This is in between the hole and the piston, within the cube. The nozzle is aimed directly at the plastic ramp (8) which is aimed at the center of the chamber.
- The impermeable fabric is then placed so as to seal the space between the plastic plate's edges and the inner walls and machinery corresponding to those edges. This creates a strong, malleable seal to withstand the pressures of repeated piston or arm movements. ( Both the scent delivery system and smoke generator may be in the path of the seal, in which case the seal is made directly onto the machinery using Velcro strong enough to hold through repetitive pressures.
- The electronically controlled aperture is installed to the circular hole in the cube The scent delivery system, the smoke or fog machine, the aperture and the piston are then connected electronically to the micro controller.
The micro controller is programmed to control the amount of scent injected, the amount of smoke generated, the aperture response and the speed and motion of the piston via software. This can be controlled remotely using wireless microcontrollers.
A successful scented smoke ring is generated when the cube's chamber fills with airborne smoke and fragrance, the aperture opens and the piston forces the air out in an airborne toroidal vortex carrying the smoke and scent with it.
