Abstract
An alerting/information device used to expediate the removal of waste and recyclables by employing two adjacent pockets, one affixed and one free to move, each pocket containing pertinent information on cards, that, when closed with a detachable adhesive, signifies no engagement, but when opened, it signifies that the device is active and on interaction with waste vehicle, device will reset to the no engagement mode.
Description
THE F.U.D.-(FLAP UP/DOWN) ALERTING DEVICE
I, Steve Bennett, have invented a device that will help to expediate the removal of garbage and recyclables.
PRIOR ART:
There is no prior art related to the F.U.D alerting device. This is the first of it's kind for this particular application.
ADVANTAGES:
Prior to this device, the driver of a sanitation vehicle, had no way of knowing if the recycle/garbage bin he was emptying, contained any material or not.
This device will alert the driver as to whether the bin should be emptied or not, with the homeowner engaging the device when needed.

2. Laminated vinyl pouch.
3. Hinge, comprising of a single layer of vinyl plastic.
4. Hook and Loop Velcro squares.
5. Heavy white card stock.
6. Flourescent card.
7. Flourescent card.
8. Double backed tape-two strips.
DESCRIPTION:
The F.U.D.- (Flap Up/Down), consists of a double thickness of laminated vinyl plastic forming two pouches(1&2), one above the other. Connecting pouches(1&2), a single layer thickness of vinyl plastic acts as a hinge(:3), between the two pouches(1&2).
The Inside View-(Fig.#2), consists of two flourescent cards(6&7), laminated inside pouches(1&2), both cards containing printed instructions. On the outside top of pouch(1) and the outside bottom of pouch(2), are hook and loop Velcro squares(4) that, when engaged, hold The F.U.D closed until it is manually opened. Outside View-(Fig.#1), consists of a thick stock card(5), laminated inside pouch(2), with printed operating instructions on how to use The F.U.D. On the reverse of flourescent card(6), between the tape strips, are the instructions on mounting The F.U.D to a bin. On the outside of pouch(1), are two strips of double backed tape(8), used to mount The F.U.D to a bin.
THE F.U.D.-(FLAP UP/DOWN) ALERTING DEVICE
Following the instructions, found between the double backed tape strips(8), on the back of flourescent card(6), peel off the protective paper on both tape strips(8) and mount The F.U.D onto the apron of a bin. Starting in this, CLOSED-NO PICKUP position, with the Velcro squares(4), engaged;
only the thick stock card(5), will be visible, with instructions on how to use the F.U.D. To engage the, OPEN-FOR PICKUP position, manually disengage the Velcro squares(4) and the top flap will drop down exposing the two inside flourescent cards(6&7). In this position, the sanitation truck driver will see that the bin warrants emptying. On emptying, the bin is raised upside down, high up into the air, on a 45 degree angle and in this position, the heavy stock card(5), will drop down to engage the two Velcro squares(4), so that when the bin is placed back on the ground, the F.U.D
is then reset, back in the, CLOSED-NO PICKUP position.
In this position, the sanitation truck driver will bypass the bin until the homeowner once again opens the flap, exposing the flourescent cards and signalling to the driver, that the bin requires emptying.

ALTERNATIVE EMBODIMENTS:
Vinyl plastic for the pouches may be replaced with hard light plastic, wood, metal, or a combination or amalgamation of any of these materials.
A single hinge or hinges used to close the two flaps, could be made of rubber, metal or plastic. A different style/model of hinge could also be adapted.
Velcro may be replaced, by magnets or a stick/release type of product.
All cards in the device could be of different colors, shades or a combination of colours. These cards could also be of different shapes or sizes.
Double backed tape may be replaced by a permanent mounting base incorporated into the bin itself. The device could also be attached to the bin by glue, screws, rivets, wires or a Velcro style product.
The vinyl pockets on the device, could also be laminated on just three sides leaving one side of the pocket open for any number of reasons.
