Abstract

The invention is an anti-ballistic cooling vest. Temperature fluctuations with respect to climate affect the ability of an individual to perform tasks, interfere with the level of comfort of that individual and can impact on health. Typical body armor is designed to protect individuals from high energy projectiles, however discomfort in using the body armor can cause the individual to minimize or eliminate its use. The invention regulates an individual's body temperature while providing protection from high energy projectiles.

Description

Bulletproof Cooling Vest Specification This invention relates to a cooling device for individuals which provides protection from high energy projectiles.
The device consists of several elongated gel packs arranged together vertically and horizontally at the front and back of the unit.
The device contains multiple layers of woven material which prevent high energy projectiles from penetrating the device.
The multiple layers of woven material are contained throughout the vest to provide for maximum coverage protection from high energy projectiles.
The device can be fashioned with pockets in the front and back which allow for the insertion of a plate to provide for greater protection against high energy projectiles Existing body armor is heavy which limits the comfort and functionality of the device, particularly when worn in warm or hot environments.
Existing body armor prevents penetration of high energy projectiles, however provides limited protection against damage or injury to the individual wearing the device from bruising or broken ribs.
The elongated gel backs have a further function in that they absorb the force and energy from the high energy projectile and reduce or eliminate bodily injury.
The arrangement providing for multiple elongated gel packs limits the weight of the device and provides for greater flexibility in the movement of the user of the device.
The gel packs are inserted into a casing which allows for the device to remain in place for maximum efficiency.
The gel packs can be placed at the back and the front of the torso area to maximize efficiency.
The gel packs can be placed at the rear of the torso area where they retain efficiency while minimizing the weight of the device.
The pockets are opened and closed by use of a hook and loop system.
The device as a vest is placed on the body by the end user and fastened to the body by use of a hook and loop system on the sides for ease of removal.
A hook and loop system at the top of the vest allows for the end user to adjust the vest for maximum comfort, protection, and cooling.
The gel packs are inserted into individual columns and fastened into either the vest or removable insert with a hook and loop system.
The device can be cooled by inserting into a freezer for maximum effect, or a refrigerator or cold water which continues to provide cooling properties to the end user.
The invention includes the same use of the elongated gel packs built into vests used by police, military, firefighters, emergency response teams, miners and operators of heavy equipment, hunters and construction workers.
The device can be produced with external material which is resistant to slashing, and prevent injuries from knives and other metal objects.
In drawings which illustrate the embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is a frontal and rear outer view of the device when designed as a vest. The enclosures for the gel packs are situated on the inside of the vest. A hook and loop fastening system provided at both the shoulders (1) and the sides (2) to allow for easy of placement and removal of the vest as well as to allow for adjustments for fit and comfort.
The openings on the front (11) and the back (12) of the exterior of the vest are designed for the insertion of a plate to provide additional protection against bullets and other high energy projectiles. The plates are secured by a hook and loop fastening system.
Figure 2 shows the interior of the vest. The elongated gel packs (3) are inserted into openings which are accessed through one side (4) and enclose the gel packs through use of a hook and loop system (5). The gel packs in this illustration number 5 in total in the front of the vest (6) and 5 in total in the back of the vest (7).
Figure 3 shows the gel packs as a removable unit (10) which can be transferred between items of clothing and fastened by a hook and loop system to each individual clothing item by the end user. The center gel packs are 15 inches in length (8) and the outer 4 gel packs are 10 inches in length (9). The gel packs can be heated or cooled either individually by removing them from the fabric material to minimize the size of the necessary heating or cooling unit or with the fabric material to maximize convenience.

Claims (13)

1 Claims The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. Fabric encased series of elongated gel packs which are arranged to coincide with the major organs of the wearer which provide heating and/or cooling properties to the user and regulate body temperature.
2. The fabric encased elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, consist of multiple layers of gel, reflective material, and an external layer, which increase the efficiency and the length of time during which the gel packs can regulate body temperature.
3. The fabric encased elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, are held in place by a hook and loop system to ensure that the gel packs are fastened securely.
4. The elongated gel packs as defined in claim 1 are removable for ease of heating and/or cooling.
5. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, can be attached or encased in a vest which is placed on the user by using a hook and loop system on both sides of the vest.
6. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, can be inserted into a ballistics vest as a whole unit which can be attached and separated from the vest by a hook and loop system.
7. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, absorb and disburse the energy from bullets and other high energy projectiles, to reduce or eliminate bruising, and fractured or broken ribs.
8. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, can be inserted into a hunting vest as a whole unit which can be attached and separated from the vest by a hook and loop system.
9. Additional woven material plates can be inserted into the front and rear of the vest to increase the efficacy of the vest against bullets and other high energy projectiles of increasing caliber and power.
10. Additional woven material plates, as defined in claim 9, can be inserted into the front and rear of the vest to reduce or eliminate bruising, fractured or broken ribs and other internal injury to the individual using the device.
11. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, can be inserted into a police or military vest as a whole unit which can be attached and separated from the vest by a hook and loop system.
12. The fabric encased series of elongated gel packs, as defined in claim 1, can be inserted into a flack jacket as a whole unit which can be attached and separated from the flack jacket by a hook and loop system.
13. The elongated gel packs can be attached directly to an item of clothing which is modified from its original use to provide the additional function of regulating body temperature.
