Abstract
The process by which materials are applied to the surface of various substrates, thus producing an object that possesses chromatic vicissitude as a result of temperature fluctuations. At the onset of this process, a non-thermochromatic base layer of one or more colours is applied to the substrate. Adding a non-thermochromatic layer in combination with a thermochromatic layer will cause a color-to-color effect to appear when fluctuations in temperature occur. This color-to-color effect is to be known as a SpectraBurst Color Shift and will give the appearance of one color changing to another with the fluctuations in temperature. A layer of thermochromatic ink mixed with a binder applied to a non-thermochromatic image in a thick enough layer to completely hide the underlying non-thermochromatic layer or image will be known as a SpectraBurst Color Flip. The Color Flip effect will allow an image to appear from a solid color be applying heat to the substrate it is on. Color Flips can also happen with cold temperatures by having images appear when the temperature drops below are certain temperature. The usage of thermochromatic inks, powders and pellets in the aforementioned ways will be known as Spectraburst technology. Spectraburst thermochromatic inks can appear in many forms such as liquid, powder or plastic pellets. The combination of thermochromic ink and SpectraBurst technology can be applied by painting, spraying, dying substrates or by the usage of pellets for mould injection.
Description
Specifications:
This invention relates to the unique process by which a thermochromatic ink combined with Spectraburst technology is applied to the surface of many substrates. This particular process enables applications that cause color-to-color or Color Shift effects or color-to-clear or Color Flip effects in a manner that produces extreme visual color effects in addition to the chromatic vicissitude. Spectraburst ink is required to be mixed with a common clear binder before application can be made to the surface of many substrates in order to achieve full adhesion.
Spectraburst ink can also be used in mold injection by using the pellet form of the technology.
Spectraburst thermochromatic ink will allow objects to drastically change their appearance with fluctuations in temperature. When using this ink you will be able to create color-to-color effects called Color Shifts and color-to-clear effects called Color Flips.
Spectraburst inks can be applied to most common substrates allowing to be used to enhance existing and new products.
Drawing Description Figure 1 (drawing below) shows an illustration of a red square that will change to a green square when heat is applied to it. Although designs, shapes and application of Spectraburst thermochromatic inks will differ the result will be the same and shall be known as a color shift.
1) Figure 1 shows a red square turning into a green square when heat is applied. The red image is painted or coated with red Spectraburst ink and is applied over top of the green image which is made with normal ink. The reverse effect can be achieved by exposing the image to cold temperatures and using green Spectraburst ink and normal red ink.

2) Images created with Spectraburst thermochromatic ink can be as colourful and detailed as desired. Images can be placed on t-shirts and apparel as well as sporting good, toys, safety products, footwear, swimsuits and much more.
Figure 2 (drawing below) shows an illustration of a red square that will go transparent when heat is applied to it thus revealing an image underneath. Although designs and concepts will vary this application of Spectraburst thermochromatic inks will be known as a color flip.

3) Figure 2 shows a red square that appears to turn into an image. The red image is painted or coated with red Spectraburst ink and is applied over top of an image which is made with normal ink. Once heat is applied the thermochromatic layer will become transparent and reveal the underlying image. The reverse effect can be achieved by exposing the image to cold temperatures and using Spectraburst ink for the image and normal red ink.
Claims (5)
1. Most common substrates having materials applied to it in such a manner that result in temperature sensitive chromatic vicissitude using thermochromatic inks.
2. The substrates of claim 1 wherein a base or 'primer' layer of non-thermochromatic coating is applied to the substrate in preparation for the application and bonding of a Spectraburst thermochromatic ink layer.
3. The Spectraburst thermochromatic ink of claim 1 will result in a color-to-color or Color Shift effect if applied over top of or is mixed with a normal color.
4. The Spectraburst thermochromatic ink of claim 1 will result in a color-to-clear or Color Flip effect causing a solid color to reveal a hidden image or layer when the Spectraburst ink is applied over top of a normal image.
5. The effects mentioned in claim 3 and 4 can be reversed by using cold temperature Spectraburst ink and exposing the substrate to cold temperature instead of heat.
