CANADIAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE
PLACE DU PORTAGE I

Attention: COMMISSIONER OF PATENTS
Reference: APPLICATION FOR PATENT
Patent Application: BACKYARD NATURAL GAS JET COOKER
Dear Commissioner of Patents, I seek to register a patent for the invention I made (all by myself) for a product called `BACKYARD
NATURAL GAS JET COOKER'. This preliminary application is being sent according to the rules listed in the FAQ section of your website regarding 'Filing Your Application'. I am hoping to obtain a filing date to help inhibit potential competitors from copying my invention when I do go into production. I
intend to sell this product in the Ontario market place after obtaining CSA
Standards approval. This is the purpose of filing the application, to be able to manufacture a product to improve Canadian society and make Canadians more efficient and less tired when preparing meals. I have done extensive research and no product exists like this in Canada. I have also done extensive testing of the product after the initial R&D. Testing has occurred over the span of 4 years to ensure reliability in all weather conditions. The unit operates in sub-zero temperatures perfectly. I intend to wait until the patent has gone through before I go into production, for safety reasons. I hope a patent application can go through in less than 2 years. My next step is to submit to the CIPO the full application (ABSTRACT, SPECIFICATION, DRAWINGS) DOCUMENTATION DESCRIBING INVENTION
Encl. PARTS LIST (See attached) Basic Description of Invention:
This natural gas powered outdoor cooking appliance is a multi-cultural friendly unit that can cater to the ever growing diverse population of Toronto and GTA. It is not a BBQ. It is unlike any current outdoor cooking appliance in Canada that has been patented or for sale in the consumer marketplace.
This cooking unit possesses a restaurant grade jet burner that is not found in current backyard units.
The burner itself is connected to a heavy duty iron base and iron box surrounding housing made from a metal fabricator. Appliance can be operated all year around with equivalent results due to High BTU output accommodating extreme cold weather in Canada. Most other backyard appliances have the problem of weak output in the winter. Unlike any burner on the market, this jet burner connects to a %" schedule 40 pipe nipple to supply the necessary high BTU output that is 'a first'. This SCH 40 nipple connects to a top of the line Italian made valve assembly also % then to a TYPE 1 CSA
approved % natural gas rubber hose, for 1/2 PSIG residential use.

The hose terminates in an industry standard CSA approved 3/4 Tuthill Hansen quick disconnect found on our outdoor BBQ's at Home Depot etc. This will mate with an equivalent 3/
Tuthill Hansen quick disconnect coupler which will attach to a class 150 malleable iron 90 elbow.
This elbow will connect to another safety backup 3/4" valve to ensure a leak free design all year around. This 3/4 valve will connect to a Wardflex female CSST terminator. The terminator connects to a Wardflex 20A, 25A, or 32A feeder CSST pipe connecting to the residential 1" black iron pipe natural gas supply. The choice of 20A, 25A, or 32A feeder pipe is determined by the total distance from the appliance to the 1"
residential pipe supply. All components in the chain do not inhibit the free flow of 3/ BTU capacity to ensure OEM output specs at the end of the burner. If the customer is to situate the appliance beyond 40 feet from the gas plumbing supply, the corporation will supply a custom burner feed (ie. Custom order unit) piping system to ensure OEM BTU output. I purposely want to make sure that the end user gets exactly the same output (or more) than my test prototype model. The unit is encased in a heavy duty indestructible iron housing. The top of the housing will adapt to many different cooking vessels to accommodate the various ethnic cuisines I have tested on it. For example it will perfectly fit a wok, a large stock pot, a JR 12" fry pan etc. The unit will be heavily marketed throughout the Toronto and GTA area at first, as natural gas seems to be a standard in this region. A
propane version will not be manufactured at this time. Everything from the 3/ quick disconnect coupler-)'l" black iron pipe plumbed gas supply is to be installed by a licensed gas fitter (provided by the corporation). I want to make it as easy as possible for new customers who likely know nothing of natural gas plumbing considering most homes in Toronto already have it installed when they get there.

Initial Features List [Marketing] (To be expanded):
-Restaurant grade heat source now available in your backyard -Finally achieve restaurant results by yourself -Natural gas powered (clean burning, low soot, low cost) -Winter Proof components slow corrosion permitting years of trouble free service -Extremely efficient (low gas consumption due to short cooking time) -High Quality Italian made heat control for precise simmering -Multi-cultural friendly to adapt different cooking vessels on top -Commercial grade components permit around the clock service with low maintenance (literally this product could be relied upon for extreme use. I have cooked over 500 meals for 3 yrs of service so far with not one hiccup, half of which meals were cooked in sub zero temperatures. I would attempt to test it on Mt. Logan but the R&D costs were too high) -Apparatus can be operated all year around. High BTU output permits real world results even in sub-zero temperatures. (situate it close to backyard door according to our specs to accomodate winter use) -Low pressure burner works with residential (1/2 PSIG) plumbed natural gas supply -Galvanized fittings & pipe are not used, to prevent the long-term potential for pieces of galvanized steel flaking off internally and clogging the burner unit -No need to fry food in the house anymore stinking up your castle -Low total cost of ownership justifies the need for the best components - no need to be driving around all over the place for replacement parts due to the basic & reliable design -Industry standard parts prevent proprietary pricing for replacement parts if customers break their product by accidently driving a car into it or dropping a sledge hammer on the valve assembly -Replacement parts are not proprietary and available even if our company were to go out of business, thus ensuring long service life of product until you disappear from earth.
Think how many times we've purchased foreign made junk then couldn't obtain replacement parts because you couldn't even find the company who made it ATCHESON PG DRIVER INC.
