Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for presenting references with answers in forums. In some implementations, a method for executing an embedded search query includes presenting a media item including a question, an answer, and a reference for the answer. The reference embeds in the answer a search result 132 and a previously-executed search query 130 used to identify the search result 132, and a graphical element 120 configured to execute the search query. The presented search query is automatically executed in response to at least a user selecting the graphical element.
Claims (21)
1. A method, comprising:
presenting a media item that includes a question, a box for updating the media item with one or more answers, and a search field for entering a search query;
in response to at least a search request entered in the search field, executing the search request with a search engine; and presenting a search result with an associated user-interface element configured to update, in response to user actuation, one of the answers with a reference to the search result.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising automatically updating the answer including the search-result reference in response to at least a user selecting the associated graphical element.
3. The method of claim 2, the associated graphical element comprising a first graphical element, further comprising:
presenting the media item including the question, the answer, and the search-result reference, wherein the reference embeds in the answer a search result and a previously-executed search query used to identify the search result, and a second graphical element configured to execute the search query; and executing the presented search query in response to at least a user selecting the second graphical element.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the media item is a Question and Answer (Q&A) Webpage.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the search-result reference comprises a hyperlink configured to automatically execute the search query in response to a user selecting the search query.
6. The method of claim 1, wherein the associated graphical element comprises a first graphical element, further comprising removing the search-result reference in response to at least a user selection a second graphical element presented with the search-result reference.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the search results are presented in a browser window different than a browser window presenting the media item.
8. The method of claim 1, wherein the search results include at least one of Websites, images, videos, blogs, news, books, maps, or Uniform Resource Locators (URLs).
9. The method of claim 1, wherein the search-result reference comprises a footnote to the answer.
10. The method of claim 3, further comprising automatically executing the search query using an Application Program Interface (API).
11. An apparatus for embedding references comprising computer readable instructions embodied on tangible media and operable to:
present a media item that includes a question, a box for updating the media item with one or more answers, and a search field for entering a search query;
in response to at least a search request entered in the search field, execute the search request with a search engine; and present a search result with an associated user-interface element configured to update, in response to user actuation, one of the answers with a reference to the search result.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, the associated graphical element comprising a first graphical element, further operable to:
present the media item including the question, the answer, and the search-result reference, wherein the reference embeds in the answer a search result and a previously-executed search query used to identify the search result, and a second graphical element configured to execute the search query; and execute the presented search query in response to at least a user selecting the second graphical element.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the media item is a Q&A Webpage.
15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the search-result reference comprises a hyperlink configured to automatically execute the search query in response to a user selecting the search query.
16. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the associated graphical element comprises a first graphical element, further operable to remove the search-result reference in response to at least a user selection a second graphical element presented with the search-result reference.
17. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the search results are presented in a browser window different than a browser window presenting the media item.
18. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the search results include at least one of Websites, images, videos, blogs, news, books, maps, or URLs.
19. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the search-result reference comprises a footnote to the answer.
20. The apparatus of claim 12, the search query executed using an API.
