Abstract
A play and chew toy for dogs comprising a plush or rubber animal shaped body with a convex rubber insert or thickening at the tail location through which a durable plastic or rubber carabiner is passed. Connecting to this carabiner is a removable and replaceable animal skin in the shape of a tail with a loop hole formed by cutting a hole in a wide area of animal skin and rolling the skin into a dense cylinder around the perimeter of the loophole prior to drying. The invention allows for the connecting, removing and replacing of a chewable animal skin tail to a plush or rubber toy body which provides for longevity and sanitation of the latter, and also keeps the toy continuously enticing to a dog.
Description
DOG TOY WITH REPLACEABLE CHEWABLE TAIL
Background of the Invention Numerous patents exist for dog toys of an extraordinary wide range of qualities, ornamental designs, and purposes (for example to provide good dental health). Some examples of such dog toys and dog chews are shown in the following Canadian and United States of America patents:
CA 2,086,800 Axelrod US 4,802,444 Markham US 6,216,640 Zelinger US 5,560,320 Plunk US 2,610,851 Jones US 5,711,254 O'Rourke US 5,092,272 O'Rourke US 6,470,830 Mann US 6,688,258 Kolesar Such dog toys and dog chews cover a wide range of uses and applications for dogs and dog owners.
However, there is a need for a toy that provides a separate chewable tail which can be replaced once the tail has reached a state of unacceptable deterioration, once there is a concern that the toy must be washed and the tail replaced for sanitary reasons, or simply to provide variety of enticement to a dog.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention is intended as a play and chew toy for dogs comprising a replaceable chewable tail connected by an embedded plastic or rubber carabiner to the body of a plush or rubber toy. The carabiner must be of a durable rubber or plastic material in order to prevent damage to the teeth of a dog, and so that it does not easily come loose. The replaceable tail portion is made of cow or pig skin, and has a loop hole at the top which is strengthened by rolling a larger area of animal skin into a tube around the hole. This tail portion is intended to come in a variety of shapes, colors and flavours, which the animal skin can be saturated in before drying.
