Abstract

Silhouette Follow Spot is a computerized system designed to detect artists or objects on a scene and project light onto them. The system performs real-time silhouette detection, which is sent to an efficient digital projector; Accurate calibration of the detection system and the projector along with an optimized processing pipeline results in highlighting the artist(s) while emitting light only where necessary, keeping the overall ambience dark.

Claims (7)

1. A stage lighting device detecting in real-time the silhouette of the ARTIST, and emitting light corresponding to the detected silhouette, using a video projector.
2. The image processing device in accordance to claim 1 is a computer.
3. The silhouette detection system, in accordance to claim 2 is a near infrared (NIR) camera.
4. The separation of infrared video flux and visible flux is achieved using an IR Cut Filter or Cold Mirror, placing the camera view point and the projector emitting point symmetrically according to filter plane.
5. A system in accordance to claim 4, where camera/projector calibration uses advanced keystone techniques described in "Advanced Projector and Camera Keystone deformation correction using 3d reconstruction of the Region of Interest".
6. The silhouette detection system, in accordance to claim 4 is based on "contre-jour" lighting.
7. A system in accordance to claim 6, where the video processing pipeline includes Gaussian Blur.
