Abstract

A gas bubble generator suitable for being positioned adjacent to a stackpipe located within a body of waste sludge. The gas bubble generator comprises a first gas accumulation chamber, a second gas accumulation chamber and a stand pipe comprising a gas outlet through which gas that has accumulated in the first gas accumulation chamber and the second gas accumulation chamber exits the gas bubble generator into the stackpipe. The gas bubble generator further comprises a hydraulic braking hood positioned above the gas outlet. The hydraulic braking hood defines at least one opening to the body of waste sludge, wherein the at least one opening is positioned such that falling debris is prevented from entering the at least one opening.

Claims (26)

1. A gas bubble generator suitable for being positioned adjacent to a stackpipe located within a body of waste sludge, said gas bubble generator comprising:
- a first gas accumulation chamber;
- a second gas accumulation chamber;
- a stand pipe comprising a gas outlet through which gas that has accumulated in said first gas accumulation chamber and said second gas accumulation chamber exits said gas bubble generator into the stackpipe;
- a hydraulic braking hood positioned above said gas outlet, said hydraulic braking hood defining at least one opening to the body of waste sludge, said at least one opening being substantially vertically oriented.
2. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 1, wherein said hydraulic braking hood comprises:

- at least one front wall connected to the stackpipe and covering said gas outlet;

- two side edges, at least a portion of said two side edges comprising said at least one opening.
3. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 2, wherein each of said two side edges comprises a respective side wall portion.
4. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 2, wherein said at least one opening is substantially triangular in shape.
5. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 2, wherein said at least one front wall has a width that is wider than a width of said gas outlet of said stack pipe.
6. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 1, further comprising a continuous passageway between said second gas accumulation chamber and said stand pipe, said continuous passageway being absent a hydraulic braking orifice.
7. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 6, wherein said continuous passageway comprises a curved wall that extends between a wall of said second gas accumulation chamber and at least one wall of said stand pipe.
8. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 7, wherein said curved wall forms an asymmetrical return bend.
9. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 1, further comprising a flushing inlet for directing flushing fluid into at least one of said first gas accumulation chamber, said second gas accumulation chamber and said stand pipe.
10. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 1, wherein the stackpipe comprises a tubular passage through which gas bubbles from the gas bubble generator travel, wherein at least a portion of said stand pipe extends within the tubular passage of the stack pipe.
11. A gas bubble generator suitable for being positioned adjacent to a stackpipe located within a body of waste sludge, said gas bubble generator comprising:
- a first gas accumulation chamber;

- a second gas accumulation chamber;

- a stand pipe comprising a gas outlet through which gas that has accumulated in said first gas accumulation chamber and said second gas accumulation chamber exits said gas bubble generator into the stackpipe;
- a hydraulic braking hood positioned above said gas outlet, said hydraulic braking hood defining at least one opening to the body of waste sludge, at least a portion of said hydraulic braking hood being positioned above said at least one opening for covering said at least one opening.
12. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 11, wherein said at least one opening is positioned adjacent said gas outlet.
13. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 11, wherein said at least one opening is in a substantially horizontal orientation.
14. A gas bubble generator as defined in claim 11, wherein said hydraulic braking hood comprises:
- at least one front wall connected to the stackpipe and covering said gas outlet;
- a first side wall and a second side wall.
