COMPACT PRODUCT PACKAGE

BACKGROUND OF THE TlktVENTION

The majority of producis are ci-anufactured or assernbled in one la~.tion and then shipped to a given retail outiet. To enhance presentation at the retail level, many pmducts are packaged in consumer friendly packaging prior te sliipmerit and then displayed in the packages at a retaii outlet. The cost of produCt tra.nsporta.tion can be reduced by minimizing the volurne vccupiecf by the pradticts.
Consequently, the size of display packages is typically minir't.ized thereby undesirably reducing the external area available for printed materio.l des-cribirlg a product and its use. This problr.r.n is accentuated for products with shapes not easily grouped in compact stacks.

The object of this inventifln, themfore, is to provide for eer,*ain products packages w'hich can be compactly grouped tAile providing increased cxtemal surfaces For accomrnadating retaincd pmluct informatoon.

The first and second cartons are nested together 1~th the first compartment disposed laterally adjacent to the second compartment, and an inner surface of another pottian of the first endvaall overlies -tite second comFo't.rnent, and an inner surface of the another portion of the second endwall overlies the first cornQartrnent. The pa.ckaging arrang,ernent reduces vtiluYr,c while irtercasing display sre.a.

According to one feature of rhe invention, the outer stu-faces of the f sst nnd second endwalls retain graphic rnaterial describing the products retmined in the first and second compartments. The grapliic material apprises constuners of the p.ackage's content.
According to another feature of the invrention. each of the first and second cornpartrnertts are trapezoidaily shapEd; and each of the first and second sets of sidevvaEls includes a pair of paralley, spaced apart sidmalls of substantially different length, a third sidewall perpendicular to the pair and joining first ends of the pair and a fowrlh sidewall joining second inds of the pair. This feature provides an efficient package for accommodating a guitar.

According to yet other features of the invention, the longer sidewall of the pair of the first set is alignixl with the shorter sidewall of the pair of the second set and the longer sidewall oÃ'the pair of the second set is aligned with the shorter lfl sidewall of the pair of the first set; each of the first and second endwalls is rectangular; the fourth sidewalls of the f7rst and =or-tl sets of sidewalls are longitudinally engaged and of equaf length; and the first cartort is a misror image of the second carton. These features achieve desired objects of the packaging.

According to additional features, the assernbly package iucludes a first basc rnember having a third endwall overlying an opposite -eRd of tiie first compartment, and fust mating sidewvalls engaging the first Set of sidewalls and separable tlyerefroflt}
