Abstract
A fairing assembly (100) has a first fairing assembly (130) mounted between a second fairing assembly (110) and a third fairing assembly (120). First and second retainer fittings (150) are fixedly located relative to the second and third fairing assemblies (110, 120), respectively. The first fairing assembly (130) includes a fairing support member (136) fixedly coupled to a fairing skin (132). A first compression member (170) is disposed between the fairing support member (136) and the first retainer fitting (150) so that the fairing support member (136) and the first retainer fitting (150) impart a compressive force on the first compression member (170). A second compression member (170) is disposed between the fairing support member (136) and the second retainer fitting (150) so that the fairing support member (136) and the second retainer fitting (150) impart a compressive force on the second compression member (170).
Claims (2)
1. A fairing assembly having a first fairing assembly mounted intermediate to a second fairing assembly and a third fairing assembly which are mounted to a vehicle chassis, the first fairing assembly comprising:
(a) a fairing skin;
(b) a fairing support member fixedly coupled to the fairing skin, the fairing support member having a first end and a second end;
(c) a first compression member disposed between the first end of the fairing support member and a first retainer fitting, said first retainer fitting fixedly located relative to the second fairing assembly, the first end of the fairing support member and the first retainer fitting imparting a compressive force on the first compression member; and (d) a second compression member disposed between the second end of the fairing support member and a second retainer fitting, said second retainer fitting fixedly located relative to the third fairing assembly, the second end of the fairing support member and the second retainer fitting imparting a compressive force on the second compression member.
(a) a fairing skin;
(b) a fairing support member fixedly coupled to the fairing skin, the fairing support member having a first end and a second end;
(c) a first compression member disposed between the first end of the fairing support member and a first retainer fitting, said first retainer fitting fixedly located relative to the second fairing assembly, the first end of the fairing support member and the first retainer fitting imparting a compressive force on the first compression member; and (d) a second compression member disposed between the second end of the fairing support member and a second retainer fitting, said second retainer fitting fixedly located relative to the third fairing assembly, the second end of the fairing support member and the second retainer fitting imparting a compressive force on the second compression member.
2. A fairing mounting system for a vehicle, comprising:
(a) a first retainer fitting coupled to the vehicle;
(b) a second retainer fitting coupled to the vehicle; and (c) a fairing assembly mounted between the first and second retainer fittings, the fairing assembly comprising:
(i) a fairing skin;
(ii) a fairing support member coupled to the fairing skin, the fairing support member having a first end opposite a second end;
(iii) a first compression member disposed within the first end of the fairing support member; and (iv) a second compression member disposed within the second end of the fairing support member, wherein the first retainer fitting and the first end of the fairing support impart a compressive force on the first compression member and the second retainer fitting and the second end of the fairing support impart a compressive force on the second compression member, the first and second compression members expanding or contracting to equalize the compressive forces acting thereon, thereby locating the fairing assembly relative to the first and second retainer fittings.
(a) a first retainer fitting coupled to the vehicle;
(b) a second retainer fitting coupled to the vehicle; and (c) a fairing assembly mounted between the first and second retainer fittings, the fairing assembly comprising:
(i) a fairing skin;
(ii) a fairing support member coupled to the fairing skin, the fairing support member having a first end opposite a second end;
(iii) a first compression member disposed within the first end of the fairing support member; and (iv) a second compression member disposed within the second end of the fairing support member, wherein the first retainer fitting and the first end of the fairing support impart a compressive force on the first compression member and the second retainer fitting and the second end of the fairing support impart a compressive force on the second compression member, the first and second compression members expanding or contracting to equalize the compressive forces acting thereon, thereby locating the fairing assembly relative to the first and second retainer fittings.
