Abstract
Un commutateur-routeur échelonnable qui passe d'une capacité de quelques gigabits par seconde à des centaines de térabits par secondes. Dans une réalisation, le commutateur-routeur est composé de diverses unités à commutateur placés en diverses combinaisons. Dans chaque combinaison, chaque unité à commutateur se branche en cycle à chaque autre unité à commutateur afin de former une maille temporelle sans contention. Chaque unité à commutateur appartient à plusieurs combinaisons et toute paire de combinaisons a au maximum une unité à commutateur en commun. Le commutateur-routeur comprend aussi un système de commande distribué muni d'un contrôleur externe lié à chaque unité à commutateur et d'un contrôleur interne lié à chaque combinaison. La simplicité structurelle simplifie beaucoup le fonctionnement et l'utilisation du commutateur-routeur.
