Abstract
A liquid container having a removable napkin is provided. The container has a recessed bottom and the napkin is sized to fit within the recessed bottom.
The napkin can be a formed disk that fits within the recessed bottom to be held in place by friction or it can be held in place by a removable retainer disk.
The napkin can be a formed disk that fits within the recessed bottom to be held in place by friction or it can be held in place by a removable retainer disk.
Description
1 TITLE: LIQUID CONTAINER WITH REMOVABLE NAPKIN
3 Paul Taylor The present invention relates to cups and other liquid containers and, in 6 particular, to a liquid cup or container having a removable napkin for use in 7 absorbing and cleaning up liquids and/or spillage liquids from the container.
9 Disposable cups and containers are used widely in the fast food and beverage industry to hold liquids such as coffee, tea, cold beverages and the 11 fike. They are also used by transportation carriers such as airlines and 12 railways as convenient means to serve beverages to passengers. When 13 beverages are served in disposable cups or containers, they are often served 14 with separate napkins for the convenience of the patron or passenger to clean up any spillage of liquid from the cup or container that may occur. For the 16 beverage provider, there can be wastage of napkins if too many napkins are 17 handed out. It can also be inconvenient for the beverage provider to order 18 and stock napkins separately from the cups. It is, therefore, desirable to 19 provide a liquid cup or container having a removable napkin.
SUMMARY
21 A liquid cup or container having a removable napkin is provided. In one 22 embodiment, the liquid container has a recessed bottom as is well known to 23 those skilled in the art of manufacturing disposable cups and containers.
The 24 napkin is a disk comprised of compressed tissue paper that fits within the { E5237136.DOC;1 }
I recessed bottom of the cup. When the napkin disk becomes wet, it can 2 expand and unfold into a napkin. The napkin disk is held in place in the 3 recessed bottom by friction. In another embodiment, the napkin disk can 4 further comprise means to assist in the removal of the napkin disk from the recessed bottom. The means can be a hole in the disk that allows a user to 6 insert a finger tip and pull the napkin disk away from the recessed bottom.
In 7 a further embodiment, the hole can have bevelled sides to give the user a 8 better grip on the napkin disk when removing it from the cup. In other 9 embodiments, the disk removal means can include a tab placed in the recessed bottom prior to the napkin disk is inserted whereby an end of the tab 11 is exposed to allow the user to pull the napkin disk away from the recessed 12 bottom or the tab can be formed on the napkin disk itself.
13 In another embodiment, the napkin is a folded tissue paper that fits within the 14 recessed bottom and is held in place by a retainer disk that snugly fits within the recessed bottom. In another embodiment, the retainer disk can comprise 16 a hole to allow the user to insert a finger tip and pull the retainer disk away 17 from the recessed bottom.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
16 A liquid container having a removable napkin is provided. Referring to FIGs.
17 1 to 3, one embodiment of such a container is illustrated. In this embodiment, 18 container 10 comprises recessed bottom 14 and napkin disk 12. Container 10 19 may be cylindrical or conical in shape or in any other shape as well known to those skilled in the art.
21 Napkin disk 12 is sized to fit within recessed bottom 14. Disk 12 is held in 22 place in recessed bottom 14 by friction and/or the narrowing of recessed 23 bottom 14 if container 10 is conical in shape. Napkin disk 12 can be made of 24 compressed or folded tissue paper or cloth that is formed into a disk as well {E5237136.DOC;1 }
1 known to those skilled in the art. When disk 12 becomes wet with liquid, disk 2 12 can unfold or unravel into a napkin that can be used by a user. In another 3 embodiment, disk 12 can further include hole 16, which allows a user to insert 4 a finger tip in order to remove disk 12 from recessed bottom 14.
Referring to FiGs. 4 to 6, disk 12 is shown in more detail. Disk 12 includes 6 hole 16, top surface 20 and bottom surface 22. In another embodiment, disk 7 12 can include bevelled sides 18 in hole 16 such that hole 16 expands in 8 diameter from bottom surface 22 to top surface 20 as shown in more detail in 9 FIG. 5. When disk 12 is inserted is inserted into container 10 with top surface 20 facing recessed bottom 14, bevelled sides 18 can provide a better grip for 11 a finger tip to pull disk 12 from recessed bottom 14.
12 Referring to FIGs. 7 and 8, an alternate embodiment of container 10 is shown.
13 In this embodiment, napkin 24 is provided having a shape allowing it to fit 14 within recessed bottom 14. Napkin 24 can be made of any material suitable for absorbing liquids as well known to those skilled in the art. Napkin 24 is 16 inserted into recessed bottom 14 and held in place by retainer disk 26.
17 Retainer disk 26 can be held in place in recessed bottom 14 by friction. In 18 another embodiment, retainer disk 26 includes hole 28 to allow a user to 19 insert a finger tip and pull retainer disk 26 from container 10. In yet another embodiment, container 10 can be formed with groove 30 in recessed bottom 21 14 to hold retainer disk 26 in place when inserted into recessed bottom 14.
22 Referring to FIG. 9, another embodiment of container 10 is shown. Tab 32 is 23 placed in recessed bottom 14 prior to napkin disk 12 being inserted therein 24 such that tab end 33 is exposed after disk 12 is so inserted. Tab 32 provides {E5237136.DOC;1 }
1 means to remove disk 12 by a user simply pulling tab end 33 down to pop 2 disk 12 out of recessed bottom 14.
3 Referring to FIG. 10, another embodiment of container is shown. Disk 12 4 further includes tab end 34 attached thereon. A user removes disk 12 from 5 recessed bottom 14 simply by pulling down on tab end 34 to pop disk 12 out 6 of recessed bottom 14.
