Description

HAIR STRAIGHTENER IRON WITH IONIC TREATMENT
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to devices used by hairdressers, and it particularly refers to a hair straightener iron with ionic treatment intended to apply a flow of ions that conditions and restores the hair being treated while straightening it.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A further object of this invention is to provide a thermal iron to be used on the hair for restoring and rejuvenating the damaged and split hair, during the application of heat carefully chosen for ironing, simultaneously applying a controlled flow of negative ions which are projected over the hair to moisturize it and restore its vitality, making the hair brighter and more flexible, leaving it silky and healthy.
Another object of this invention is to provide a new type of hair straightener iron in which the plate surfaces are coated with a ceramic crystal material which covers all the pores and facilitates an optimal treatment of the hair due to its smooth texture.
Another advantage of the invention which is not less important is the structure to treat the hair. Said structure has been developed to allow professional hairstylists to perform a proficient, quick hairstyle thanks to the accuracy provided by the electronic circuit that generates the controlled stream of ions.
Conceptually, the inventive device has been developed as an iron having a case made of materials highly resistant to temperature and duly protected to prevent the user from
2 suffering any inconvenience. These materials include a removable heat protector which prevents the contact with the hot metallic parts produced by high performance ceramic resistors that reach a working temperature in a few seconds, a high temperature suitably controlled by a thermostat. This allows high quality straightening. The thermostatic control renders high savings in electricity consumption and prevents the temperature from reaching values which are incompatible with what the hair can stand, preventing it from being damaged by mistake.
The heating plates, which come into contact with the hair, are coated with ceramic crystal material, thus an extremely smooth surface is achieved, without any kind of micropores that may affect perfect gliding of the hair through them.
Between these surfaces a flow of negative ions is released, the negative ions being generated by the electronic circuit with which the iron is equipped, and released through an outlet between its plates.
As it is known, treatment through ionizing devices is very common to eliminate the static charge produced by computers, carpets and other synthetic household materials, air conditioners, central heating, etc. These positive ionic charges are the free radicals whose harmful effects are now well known and that in these particular cases help to cause respiratory disorders such as asthma and allergies. It has also been medically shown that they reduce the level of blood serotonin. Therefore, ionizers are used for the treatment of said disorders and to neutralize pollution and environmental bad smells.
The equipment built into the hair iron of the invention injects, between the plates, a stream of several billions of
3 electrons per second which, when incorporated to the room oxygen, release its charge making it more vital and healthier and these effects are completely incorporated into the strand of hair being treated.
In accordance with a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a hair straightener iron with ionic treatment means comprising: a pair of mutually articulated lever arms comprising a first lever arm and a second lever arm each having a longitudinal inner surface and a first and second end, and being pivotally connected to each other at their respective first ends, each lever arm comprising a handle portion proximate the first end and a hair contacting portion proximate the second end, wherein opposing inward facing surfaces of the hair contacting portions comprise respective first and second electrically heated plates each coated with a ceramic crystal material; an ionizing circuit located within the handle portion of the first arm and operatively connected to an outlet located on the longitudinal inner surface proximate to and directed at the first electrically heated plate; and a switching means constructed and arranged to activate the ionizing circuit upon contact of the first electrically heated plate with the second electrically heated plate.
The preferred embodiment of the invention will be more clearly understood by reference to the following detailed description and attached drawings. Various modifications to the components will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and the generic principles herein may be applied to other embodiments. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiment shown but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and features described herein.
4 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the attached Figures in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the hair straightener iron according to the invention; and Fig. 2 is a wiring diagram of the device shown in Fig.
1, which includes the ions generator incorporated in the iron.
Corresponding reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:
Referring to Fig. 1, the hair straightener iron described is made following the usual design for this type of device. The general structure of the iron comprises two mutually articulated arms, which form a lever of the third kind.
Its active front part consists of two plates 1, 2 located at respective first ends of the lever arms 3 and 4, the second ends of which are articulated at point 5. The power cord 6 may be seen at the back of one of the arms.
The opposite contact surfaces of the plates are coated 7 with a ceramic crystal material which seals all the flaws or micropores that could affect them, allowing the hair to glide smoothly and, at the same time, imparting an optimum resistance to the chemical products and varnish that may be applied.
The complete case of the device is made of plastic that is resistant to high temperatures. The removable thermal insulating protectors 8 are pressure-attached over the case.

They protect the parts that reach high temperatures, in order, to protect the user from the device.
Behind the plate 1, there is a semi-cylindrical member 9 that holds the outlet 10 of negative ions forming the ionized
5 stream 11 between the plates. Within the arms in contact with said plates, the ceramic resistors which heat the plates are housed as well as the driving circuit.
On the inner surface of the arm 4, there is a longitudinal dome 12 matching a hollow 13 made in the opposite arm 3, forming a house for the dome, which prevents the transverse movement of both arms when closing; near the articulation there appears a tip 14 matching a hole 15 in the opposite arm. When the tip 14 enters into the hole 15, the switch 24 of the ionizing circuit is started.
On the arm 3 there is an on-off LED 19, which shows the state of the circuit.
In Fig. 2, which shows the equipment circuit including the ions generator, there appear the terminals of current supply 16 to the circuit which includes the matching main switches 17. From this point the circuit connects to the resistor 18, the on-off LED 19 and the rectifier diode 20 connected in serial form; this being the source of supply for ceramic thermistors 21 and 22.
The ions generator is fed through the branches 23. One of the conductors goes through the secondary switch 24 of the ionizing circuit and connects to the resistor 25 which is connected to the parallel circuit represented by a rectifier diode 26 and the LED indicator 27, then it continues through a capacitor 28 from where it is connected to the electric energy supply.
This last part of the circuit feeds and commands the ionizing block 29. The negative ions which are generated flow
6 through the connection end 30 going out through the holes 10 made in the case 9.
In operation, the functional relation is very simple since the equipment starts working when the electric energy supply source of the distribution wiring is connected by activating the main switch 17. The working state is shown when the light diode (LED) 19 is on, which causes the thermistors to heat up till reaching the preselected temperature set during manufacture.
When the clamp closes over the lock of hair to be thermally straightened, working on its lever arms 3 and 4, the tip 14 goes through the hole 15 and presses the mechanic switch 24, thus activating the ionizing block 29 which starts emitting negative ions. The stream of ions channeled through the conductor is released though the outlet 10 over the area between the plates 1 and 2, acting in a beneficial way over each hair reached by the stream of ions.
If necessary, thermal protection 8 can be easily removed using a screwdriver or a similar tool.
The thermostat range is factory-regulated at the optimum value for the ironing, while preventing that temperature may reach a level that can put the hair integrity at risk.
The rectifier circuit of the electric supply inlet can be chosen to be POB 3713-7344 or similar, and the supply circuit of the ionizing block can be chosen to be POB 3713-7337 or similar.
Thus there has been described one of the possibilities of construction that lead to carry out the invention as well as the way it works.
A person understanding this invention may now conceive of alternative structures and embodiments or variations of the above. All those which fall within the scope of the
7 claims appended hereto are considered to be part of the present invention.
