Abstract
This is an apparatus for keeping crawling insects out of hanging plants and bird feeders such as hummingbird feeders. This apparatus consists of a vessel with a centre post. The centre post is hollow to enable a wire to slide snugly through it. It is suspended longitudinally from a hanger. The articles to be protected will be attached to the wire at the bottom of the vessel. The vessel is then filled with water or anything else to repel the insects.
The vessel can be of any liquid proof material such as plastic as can the centre post.
The centre post can either be moulded into the vessel or be a bolt with a hole through it to accept the aforementioned suspender wire. This bolt will be installed through a hole in the bottom of the vessel. A nut is then tightened on the bolt with sealant to insure there is no leakage of fluid.
As a result, the insects cannot crawl from the centre post to the edge of the vessel due to the liquid present in the vessel, the plants and feeders are protected from them.

1- General character =
This invention relates to an apparatus for keeping crawling insects out of hanging plants and bird feeders.
1- General character =
This invention relates to an apparatus for keeping crawling insects out of hanging plants and bird feeders.
2- The nature in general terms of the articles previously known =
I have done a search of this article and have found nothing to compare it with. Also I have never seen anything anywhere to remotely compare this invention to.
I have done a search of this article and have found nothing to compare it with. Also I have never seen anything anywhere to remotely compare this invention to.
3- This inventive idea to my knowledge does not exist so there are no problems to overcome from any previous practices or proposals.
4- In drawings which illustrate the embodiments of the invention Fig. 1 is a cutaway view of the vessel showing the hollow centre post as well as the suspender wire showing how to install it. The centre post shown here is a plastic nut and bolt. Although a vessel with a moulded centre post could be manufactured.
The centre post must be higher than the top of the vessel to keep the liquid from escaping through its hole. The suspender wire must be strong enough to accept the weight of whatever is placed on it as this wire and not the vessel bears all the weight placed on this invention.
The vessel will slide freely up and down the suspender wire.
Fig. 2 illustrates the best way to utilized this invention. The invention is attached in free air to most any type of hanger. The apparatus to be protected is then attached to the bottom ring of the invention. The invention is then filled with liquid. Water works well for most insects.
Figs. ir 4 shows a vessel with only a wire through it and sealed at its bottom. Fig. 5 shows a vessel with a centre post without a suspender wire. Instead a ring is placed through each end of the centre post. Fig. 6 illustrates a vessel with a moulded centre post with the suspender wire going through it.
In all cases for this invention to work successfully it as well as the article to be protected must be suspended in free air with the exception of the top of the invention which is attached to a hanger bracket.
