Abstract

A collapsible window covering capable of height adjustment, comprising, in combination, an upper elongated support, a lower elongated member that is adjustable up and down, and control lines extending downwardly to suspend said lower elongated member. A primary rotor structure at the upper elongated support entrains the lines.
Dual rotary members act on the lines to exert a counterbalancing suspension force on the lines at different window covering height adjusted levels. One dual rotary member exerts tensioning force on the lines and there is an S-shaped spring coupled to the dual rotary member acting to urge the one rotary members in a direction for winding the lines on the one rotary member. The upper elongated support includes a straight channel with a receptacle in the channel in which the dual rotary members and the spring are protectively carried. The channel orients the receptacle so that the lines in the channel remain substantially aligned with the one rotary member in the receptacle.

Claims (3)

1. A collapsible window covering capable of height adjustment, comprising, in combination:
a) an upper elongated support, b) a lower elongated member that is adjustable up and down, c) control line means extending downwardly to suspend said lower elongated member, d) primary rotor structure at said upper elongated support to entrain said line means, e) and other means acting on said line means for counterbalancing suspension force exerted on said line means at different window covering height adjusted levels, f) said other means including dual rotary members one of which exerts tensioning force on said line means, g) said other means including an S-shaped spring coupled to said dual rotary members acting to urge said one of said rotary members in a direction for winding said line means on said one rotary member, h) said upper elongated support including a straight channel, there being a receptacle in the channel in which said rotary members and spring are protectively carried, whereby the channel orients said receptacle so that line means in the channel remain or remains substantially aligned with said one rotary member in the receptacle.
2. A collapsible shade or blind assembly capable of height adjustment without use of pull cords, comprising, in combination:
a) an upper elongated support, b) a lower elongated member that is manually adjustable up and down, control line means extending downwardly to suspend said lower elongated member, c) primary rotor structure to entrain said line means, d) including a rotary member entraining and exerting tensioning force on said line means and a spring operatively connected to said rotary member to variably coil thereabout as shade or blind height changes, and acting to urge said rotary member in a direction for winding said line means on said rotary member, whereby said rotary member exerts counterbalancing suspension force exerted on said line means at different shade or blind height adjusted levels, e) said upper elongated support including a straight channel, there being a receptacle in the channel in which said rotary member and spring are protectively carried, whereby the channel orients said receptacle so that line means in the channel remain or remains substantially aligned with said one rotary member in the receptacle.
3. A collapsible window covering capable of height adjustment, in combination:
a) an upper longitudinally elongated support, b) a lower elongated member that is adjustable up and down, c) primary lines extending downwardly to suspend said lower elongated member, d) primary rotors at said upper elongated support to entrain said primary lines, e) secondary line means, there being an operative connection between said primary lines, and said secondary line means, f) and force exerting means acting on said secondary line means for counterbalancing suspension force exerted on said primary lines at different window covering height adjusted levels, g) said force exerting means including rotary members one of which exerts tensioning force on said secondary line means, said primary lines and said operative connection remaining everywhere spaced from said rotary members, at all times, h) and force exerting means including spring means windingly coupled to said rotary members acting to urge said one of said rotary members in a direction for winding said secondary line means on said one rotary member, said secondary line means being the only tensioning force exerting line means wound on said one rotary member, i) said upper longitudinally elongated support including a straight channel, there being a longitudinally elongated receptacle retained in the channel and in which said rotary members and spring means are carried and confined, and wherein the channel orients said elongated receptacle so that the secondary line means and said connection remain substantially directly longitudinally aligned in the channel with said one rotary member confined in the receptacle, and so as to define a protective longitudinal travel path for said connection in the channel toward the one rotary member, j) said rotary members being longitudinally spaced apart and having parallel axes of rotation, and having laterally axial overall dimensions confined within the receptacle in the channel, k) said spring means rotatably coupled to said rotary members whereby all of said rotary members rotate during winding of the secondary line means on said one rotary member.
