Abstract

A method and device which makes specific use of the face or frontal area of each card of a typical deck of playing cards by converting the face of each such card into a miniature repetitive billboard assembly or repetitive promotional or visual advertising means, by inserting or affixing certain promotional material by way of printing or using transfer decals.

Description

A METHOD FOR A DECK OF FIFTY TWO PLAYING CARDS
FUNCTIONING AS A REPETITIVE PROMOTIONAL OR
VISUAL ADVERTISING DEVICE
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to playing cards, and, more particularly to a method which may provide the opportunity to display repetitive promotional or advertising messages or similar visual information on the face of each card so as to be constantly viewable by the players during the card game proceedings.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is apparent that during a typical card game, each player is exposed to a number of playing cards the faces of which are constantly being viewed. This invention is directed to playing cards and specifically to making use of the surface areas of the face of the cards for additional information which may be unrelated to the four suits comprising hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades, and each suit devided by rank and denomination.
In US 2,663,418, Grunwald discloses the provision of playing cards with an adhesive or photosensitive back or front surface for each card. Grunwald however is not disclosing or even contemplating to provide a frontal face surface area for each playing card specifically designed and arranged to provide maximum open surface area to locate additional visual material as contemplated and specif cally disclosed in Applicant's invention. It is of further significant operating disadvantage to provide a deck of cards with an adhesive or photosensitive back or front card surface as disclosed by Grunwald.
In US 6,910,893, Dillhoff discloses a set of playing cards for competitive learning between players. As the game proceeds, the winner of a match must recite out loud the facts of learning printed on the playing cards. The game repetitively exposes the players to facts in a given subject area such as math, history, science, geography, literature, etc. The learning experience may be geared to different age brackets by tailoring the subject facts to different age brackets. Audible and visual cues help players to associate information for memory retention. Different decks for different age brackets and subjects are provided.
However, the disclosure does not provide the provision for the face of each card to be designed such as to provide maximum open space, especially for promotional illustrations and advertising messages as contemplated by Applicant. Dillhoff further discloses the requirement for constant recital of the information and of keeping constant records of the level of recitations. This is all contrary to the method of functioning, physical layout and design of a deck of playing cards disclosed by Applicant.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention is related to a specific additional use of playing cards, and more particularly to providing a deck of playing cards wherein the layout of the frontal face of each card is designed and arranged such as to provide the most advantageous amount of open area for inclusion of certain advertising material or promotional information, without interfering with or effecting the common and established designations of a deck of cards, using four card suits comprising hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades, with value or rank and suit represented on the front face of each such playing card.
This invention therefore relates to a card game which primarily function as a promotional tool providing the means for delivering repetitive visual advertising or promotional information and messages related to various applications, constantly visible to the players during a card game. The game uses a typical basic layout of prior art decks of fifty-two playing cards composed of four suits, including clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.
Clubs and spades are black or black related color suits; while diamonds and hearts are red or red related color suits. Each suit having face values on the cards of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace and Joker. This arrangement still permits traditional card games such as poker and rummy to be played while incorporating this invention.
According to one preferred functional embodiment of the invention, the referred to promotional message or advertising information may be available in the form of pre-printed transfer decals, sized especially for placement into the various open spaces specifically provided in accordance with the function this invention on the front face A further preferred functional embodiment of this invention may provide certain provision to insert promotional material by computer method, or by using regular printing method applications, placing or printing contemplated promotional material into the spaces or open locations specifically provided on the front of each playing card.
Such inserts may also consist of certain advertising material of a visual nature, which would of course all be in constant view by anyone holding a hand of cards.
Said promotional material may include illustrations representing certain feature areas or regions of a country or continent, or may represent certain product ranges or corporate logos, and each suit of cards may be coordinated as to incorporation material of such specific type within certain groups.
