Abstract

Pliers are one of the most common and valuable of all tools, and there are innumerable varieties of pliers; from gas pliers to needle-nose, diagonal pliers, and many special-purpose designs. Pliers, generally, have two separate halves, hinged on a single pivot with hand portions on one side of the pivot compressing jaw portions on the other side of the pivot. Some have locking devices, and approach the functions of wrenches, but almost all are controlled by opposing hand grips on a pair of handles. All are useful in their ways and for their special purposes. .
My invention design relates to hand tools, such as the position of the Pliers Jaws at work, similar in many respects to a pair of pliers. The object of my Improvement is to provide a tool with Jaws re-located at the one end of each of the two Pliers Main Members who have been extended. These 2 extensions take an abrupt 90 degrees down shape and the said Jaws would be fixed at the end of each Pliers Main Member Extensions and on the same plane. The said Extensions design must keep the original Jaws design alignment.
This design provide the Jaws with the ability to work in a relatively small and restricted area. The Extensions are simply the extension of both the Main Upper and Lower Members.
My Invention relates to improvement of Pliers and the object of my improvement is to produce a pair of pliers suitable for operating in a close and confined areas by changing the location of the Pliers Jaws. On the side remote from the pivotal connection there are Extensions connecting the Jaws with the Main Members body portion.

Description

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a manually operable tool (Pliers) for manipulating various objects in a restricted area.
It is common in devices for the Pliers to hold, cut, remove etc various objects. It is also necessary that the Pliers perform any task regardless of its location, size and type of material and it is most important for the Pliers Jaws to hold and squeeze the components regardless of the angle of which the Pliers are confronted with. However, the Pliers that are currently available were inefficient because the Pliers Jaws are not positioned in a ways to perform work in most restricted areas. Due to the restricted areas, you could not bring the Pliers Jaws to fully hold the components. With the conventional Pliers, the Pliers Jaws could only hold the companent at an awkward angle as well as grasping the components at the wrong location. Grasping the component at an awkward angle, left me with a tool that could not provide the proper handling to remove and install the component, but it also damaged the component and subsequently the component had to be replaced.
I have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by providing the Pliers with an extension that would position the Pliers Jaws around the component. Such extensions permit the use of any Pliers to reach areas that could not possibly be done by any other type of Pliers available. Also, this made the installation and removal very easy and the replacement of damaged components were not longer an issue. The specific Pliers use for my invention was an Adjustable Pliers, however this invention does not limit itself to the Adjustable type Pliers.
My improved pliers comprise the original pliers (or any) Main Pliers Upper Member (fig I, item 1) and Main Pliers Lower Member (2) pivotally connected adjacent the middle portion. In the case of the Main Pliers Upper Member ( I ) of the overlapping members, the Extension (5) is formed by a 90 degrees angles (fig 3, item 6) off set of the material of which the said member is formed. In the case of the lower member (fig 2, item 2), it will be noted that the Extension (4) is precisely like that of the Main PliersUpper Member Extension (5) notwithstanding the fact that the body portion thereof is below that of the other Member ( 1 ).
That is to say, the body portions and the handle portions of the Main Upper Pliers and Lower Pliers Members (1 & 2) are simple overlapping members and the Extensions (4 &
5) portions are simply and extended part of the ( fig 2, items 7 & 8) Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members and are similar to one another and vary in length.
The said Extended Upper and Lower Pliers Member originate at location (item 9) where the Jaws were located prior being re-position.

,~~~n~~rR~ o~ ~~~ I~~~~~~~~ feQ~r~~r As per fig 2, items (7 & 8), the Main Pliers Upper and Lower Member Extensions could vary in length before the abrupt 90 degrees downward is obtained. By extending the Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members Handles (7 & 8) and with the downward extensions, this will provide the operator with a tool that would reach and access hard to reach areas that would not be possible otherwise. (see figures 8 & 9 while in use) The Jaws (6 & 7) and the pivotal connection of the Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members (1 & 2) are provided with an Extended portion of the Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members Handles (7 & 8) which is so formed as to position the jaws (6 &
7) in a 90 degree ar~gte relation to the handles.
That is to say, the Extensions (4 & 5) are said to be an extended portion of both the Pliers Main Upper and Lower Members (I & 2) with a 90 degree angle configuration where the alignment of the Jaws (6 & 7) must meet on the same horizontal plane while keeping the pliers original design.
Furthermore, the Extensions (4 & 5) are disposed down from the Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members (1 & 2) at a perpendicular angle (fig 3, item 6), using the horizontal line of the Main Pliers Upper & Lower Members as the Main Plane Reference (fig 3, item 3) and the said Extensions (fig 2, items 4 & 5) vary in length and size. It is to say that the other end of the said Extensions (4 & ~) are attached to the said Jaws (6 &
'~~, andtha Jaws are said to be a 90 degree angles (fig 3, item 4) from the Vertical Extension Plane (5) being the reference.
The angle between the Extensions (fig 2, items 4 & 5) in each case and the Pliers Main Upper and Lower Members (1 & 2) at one end and the Jaws (6 & 7) at the other end, while abrupt as stated is perpendicular and right angles, the Extension (4 &
5) angles are said to be at a 90 degree to both the Main Upper and Lower Members ( 1 & 2) and Jaws (6&7). This condition permits these two parts to be formed by a drop forging process.
The said Jaws (6 & 7) must maintain its mechanical advantage, when an object is positioned between the jaws of the pliers, and the handle portions continue to compress the object. The location and alignment of the said Main Jaws (6 & 7) in relation with the said Main Pliers Upper and Lower Members (1 &2) design through the two said Extension (4 & 5), must keep there original mechanical advantage, as well as theirs parallel alignments.
The formation of the Extension (4 & 5) and the relation of the Jaws (6 & 7) thereto are preferably such that the Jaws (6 & 7) will meet in the same plane (fry 3),andwhicl~plane is parallel with the plane of movement of the Pliers Main Upper and Lower Members (1 & 2).

,~'tlhfh~frR~' ftF P~fE Il~l~PlO fca~t'~r As per Figure 6, for maximum efficiency, the said Jaws (1) could be positioned at the extreme end of Extension Shank 2 where both the left surface (6 & 9) are said to be on the same vertical plane. The said Jaws Left Surface (6) could be positioned at the extreme right of Extension Shank Surface (10) where both Bottom Surfaces (4 & g) meet in a horizontal plane.
Having the said Jaws (1 & 2) positioned at the extreme end of the said Extension Shanks, this will provide the pliers with a smaller Jaws area (fig 6), thus increase the said Pliers to access a more restricted area.
Accordingly, the entire contour of the two mating members is such as to permit them to be formed by the drip forging process, involving the use of dies of ordinary character, which feature is of considerable importance from a production standpoint.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows;

A manually operable tool such as a Pliers (various) for holding, removing, installing, etc comprised of two Main Upper and Lower Member Handles extending lengthwise with extended portions that are shaped with a 90 degree down angle between the Extended portions and the Pliers Main Upper and Lower Member Handles.

The said Pliers Main Upper and Lower Members handle extensions vary in length as well as the location where the 90 degree angles are done. The Jaws could be positioned on either the end of the said Extensions or on the side face of the Extensions.
Due to the overlapping of both the Pliers Main Upper and Lower Member Handles, both Jaws must meet on the same horizontal plane, subsequently one Extension would be longer that the other one.. The entire Plier must be forged as a single piece as to provide maximum strength to the Pliers as well as to the operator and that is to say, with the Pliers Jaws being repositioned, the Pliers Jaws must maintain its mechanical advantage.
