Abstract

A screwdriver is equipped with a striking surface. The striking surface is partially embedded within the screwdriver handle and includes an exposed face portion which is offset from a longitudinal axis. A shank protrudes from the handle along the longitudinal axis and includes a receiving end for a bit. The screwdriver functions as both a screwdriver and a hammer.

Claims (10)

1. A screwdriver, comprising:
a handle which defines a longitudinal axis;
a shank extending axially along said longitudinal axis; and a striking surface within said handle, said striking surface defining a face portion offset from said longitudinal axis.
2. The screwdriver as recited in claim 1, wherein said striking surface is partially embedded in a receiving end of said handle at an end opposite from said shank.
3. The screwdriver as recited in claim 2, wherein said receiving end of said handle has a cup shape.
4. The screwdriver as recited in claim 3, wherein said cup shape is scalloped.
5. The screwdriver as recited in claim 1, wherein said striking surface defines a head portion which is perpendicular to said face portion.
6. The screwdriver as recited in claim 5, wherein said head portion is convex, said longitudinal axis passing through said head portion.
7. The screwdriver as recited in claim 5, wherein said head portion of said striking surface is exposed at an end of said handle.
8. The screwdriver as recited in claim 1, wherein said face portion of said striking surface is exposed on at least one side of said handle.
9. The screwdriver as recited in claim 1, wherein said shank includes a receiving end for a bit.
10. A screwdriver, comprising:
a resilient handle, said handle having a cup shaped end;
a shank protruding from an end of said handle opposite said cup shaped end, said shank having a receiving end for a bit; and a rigid striking member partially embedded in said cup shaped end, said striking member having a head portion and a face portion.
