Abstract

Hockey pants for protecting a wearer having a lower spine region, lower ribs, a waist region, left and right hip regions, a crotch region, and left and right thighs, the pant comprising an inner protective unit comprising first, second and third left separate protective pads and first, second and third right separate protective pads for covering the respective left and right hip regions, the first, second and third left pads being connected together by a first elastic band and the first, second and third right pads being connected together by a second elastic band, each of the first and second elastic bands allowing movement of the third and second pads relative to the respective second and first pads between an extended position, wherein there is first overlappings between the respective third and second pads and second and first pads, and a retracted position, wherein there is second overlappings between the respective third and second pads and second and first pads, the second overlappings being larger than the first overlappings.

Claims (27)

1. Hockey pants for protecting a wearer having a lower spine region, lower ribs, a waist region, left and right hip regions, a crotch region, and left and right thighs, said pants comprising an inner protective unit comprising left separate protective pads and right separate protective pads for covering the respective left and right hip regions, each of said left and right separate protective pads comprising a first pad and a second pad partially overlapping said first pad, said first and second pads being connected together by an elastic band allowing movement of said second pad relative to said first pad between an extended position, wherein there is a first overlapping between said first and second pads, and a retracted position, wherein there is a second overlapping between said first and second pads, said second overlapping being larger than said first overlapping.

Hockey pants according to claim 1, wherein said elastic bands connecting said respective first and second left and right pads are respective first and second elastic bands and wherein said left and right separate protective pads comprise respective third left and right pads overlapping said respective second left and right pads and being connected to said respective second left and right pads by respective third and fourth elastic bands, each allowing movement of said third pad relative to said second pad between an extended position, wherein there is a first overlapping between said second and third pads, and a retracted position, wherein there is a second overlapping between said second and third pads, said second overlapping being larger than said first overlapping.
3. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 2, wherein said inner protective unit comprises a padded band for covering the waist region of the wearer.
4. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 3, wherein each of said first pad of said left and right separate protective pads comprises an upper edge associated with said padded band.
5. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 3, wherein said first left and right pads are confined in respective first left and right envelopes, each having an upper edge affixed to said padded band.
6. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 4, wherein each of said first and second elastic bands comprises upper and lower ends, said upper end being affixed proximate to said upper edge of said respective first left and right pads.
7. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 5, wherein each of said first and second elastic bands comprises upper and lower ends, said upper end being affixed to said padded band proximate to said upper edge of said respective first left and right envelopes.
8. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 7, wherein each lower end of said first and second elastic bands is affixed to an upper edge of said respective second left and right pads.
9. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 8, wherein each of said third and fourth elastic bands comprises upper and lower ends, said upper end being affixed proximate to an upper edge of said respective second left and right pads.
10. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 8, wherein each of said third and fourth elastic bands comprises upper and lower ends, said upper end being affixed proximate to an upper edge of said respective second left and right pads and said lower end being affixed proximate to an upper edge of said respective third left and right pads.
11. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 2 to 10, wherein said first and third elastic bands are integrally formed together and said second and fourth elastic bands are integrally formed together.
12. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein said second left and right pads are confined in respective second left and right envelopes.
13. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 2 to 12, wherein said third left and right pads are confined in respective third left and right envelopes.
14. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 3 to 13, wherein said padded band comprises a back portion for protecting the lower spine region of the wearer.
15. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 3 to 14, wherein said padded band comprises respective left and right belt portions that are interconnectable by affixing together respective rear and front overlapping surfaces of said left and right belt portions while allowing size adjustment of said left and right belt portions.
16. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 15, wherein one of said rear and front overlapping surfaces of said left and right belt portions comprises VELCRO
loops and the other of said one of said rear and front overlapping surfaces of said left and right belt portions comprises VELCRO hooks.
17. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 2 to 16 comprising an outer shell associated with said inner protective unit and having an upper portion for covering the waist and left and right hip regions of the wearer, a crotch portion for covering the crotch region of the wearer and left and right leg portions for covering the respective left and right thighs of the wearer.
18. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 17 comprising a fifth elastic band connecting said third left pad to an inner surface of said left leg portion of said outer shell and a sixth elastic band connecting said third right pad to an inner surface of said right leg portion of said outer shell.
19. Hockey pants in accordance to claims 17 or 18, wherein said outer shell comprises an adjustable belt allowing size adjustment of said pants around the waist of the wearer.
20. Hockey pants in accordance to any one of claims 2 to 19, wherein each of said first, second and third left and right pads is made of thermoformable foam.
21. Hockey pants for protecting a wearer having a lower spine region, lower ribs, a waist region, left and right hip regions, a crotch region, and left and right thighs, said pants comprising an inner protective unit comprising first, second and third left separate protective pads and first, second and third right separate protective pads for covering the respective left and right hip regions, said first, second and third left pads being connected together by a first elastic band and said first, second and third right pads being connected together by a second elastic band, each of said first and second elastic bands allowing movement of said third and second pads relative to said respective second and first pads between an extended position, wherein there is first overlappings between said respective third and second pads and second and first pads, and a retracted position, wherein there is second overlappings between said respective third and second pads and second and first pads, said second overlappings being larger than said first overlappings.
22. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 21, wherein said inner protective unit comprises a padded band for covering the waist region of the wearer.
23. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 22, wherein each of said first and second elastic bands comprises upper and lower ends, said upper end being affixed proximate to said padded band of said inner protective unit.
24. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 23 comprising an outer shell associated with said inner protective unit and having an upper portion for covering the waist and left and right hip regions of the wearer, a crotch portion for covering the crotch region of the wearer and left and right leg portions for covering the respective left and right thighs of the wearer.
25. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 24 comprising a third elastic band connecting said third left pad to an inner surface of said left leg portion of said outer shell and a fourth elastic band connecting said third right pad to an inner surface of said right leg portion of said outer shell.
26. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 25, wherein said first, second and third left separate protective pads and first, second and third right separate protective pads are each confined in an envelope.
27. Hockey pants in accordance to claim 26, wherein each of said first, second and third left and right pads is made of thermoformable foam.
