Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device for applying aerosol shaving foam or gel, and more particularly to an improved applicator for spreading such shaving foam or gel on a person's face and body.
Conventional methods of spreading aerosol shaving foam or gel include placing foam or gel from the dispensing canister on one's fingers and applying the foam over areas to be shaved on one's face or body, and spreading lathered soap or shaving cream on a persons face using a traditional shaving brush with bristles. Such conventional methods have their drawbacks;
I 0 1. The procedure of using fingers to apply shaving foam or gel is messy.
2. It requires an additional step of washing foam off fingers before holding the razor.
3. The procedure does not maximize the usage of foam due to dispersion of foam between the fingers.
4. A second coat of foam for closer shave requires a repeat of the above processes.
I 5 S. Using a traditional bristled brush compresses the shaving foam in-between the bristles resulting in less than desirable applicability.
6. The bristled brush is more suited for creating lather from cream through circular motion of the brush, than for applying ready foamed cream from a dispensing canister.
20 7. Washing a bristled brush after use requires the foam embedded between bristles to be washed off completely. Foam remaining in-between stiffens and joins the bristles together making it difficult to use.
As a reference of general background interest, Canadian Patent No.
1288391 of Ray McLennan et al issued Sep. 3'd 1991 describes and illustrates a wedge-25 shaped applicator.
The object of the present invention is to provide an applicator, capable of more effective application of aerosol shaving foam or gel and over come the above said drawbacks. It is also the object of the invention to create a product that is very simple in construction and easy to use.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to the present invention there is provided an applicator for applying aerosol shaving foam or gel. The applicator comprises a base to be gripped by a user and a foam spreader made of closed cell EVA Foam mounted on the base. The spreader body has wide openings on middle and upper regions of the face. It is built wider towards the upper end with an arced top.
In a preferred embodiment, the spreader comprises an inner body made of flexible Cork-Rubber, enclosed by an outer leather casing. The spreader body has wide openings on the middle and upper regions of the face. It is built wider towards the upper end with an arced top. The leather casing enclosing the inner Cork-Rubber body is trimmed along the sides of the spreader and the edges of the openings. The entire body is centrally mounted on a base.
The wider, arced upper end of the applicator according to the present invention provides for application of foamed cream or gel using circular motion against the skin, as well as spreading the foam evenly over a large area. The wide openings on the face of the applicator help transfer shaving foam to the opposite side.
Turning the applicator around, the other side can then be used for application of shaving foam. This helps optimize the use of shaving foam and prevents it from sliding down to the base.
The flat surface and flexibility of the EVA Foam spreader allows for aerosol shaving foam or gel to be applied using circular motion as well as spreading it evenly.
The closed cell nature of the EVA Foam material permits only minimal moisture absorption and allows for easy wash of shaving foam from surface after use.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon reading the following detailed description and upon referring to the drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of an applicator device according to the present invention;

FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of applicator device;
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of applicator device; and FIGURE 4 is a perspective section view of the alternative embodiment in Figure 3 of applicator device in accordance with the present invention.
While the invention will be described in conjunction with example embodiments, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the invention to such embodiments. On the contrary, it is intended to cover all alternatives, modifications and l0 equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the following description, similar features in the drawings have been given similar reference numerals.
l S Turning to the drawings, there is illustrated in Figure I, an applicator device 2 in accordance with the present invention for applying foamed shaving cream or gel, applicator 2 comprising a base or handle 6 and a foam spreader 4 consisting of flexible, elongated body of EVA Foam. The spreader body 4 is centrally mounted on base 6, having openings 3A and 3B on its face, straight side surfaces 7 and built wider towards 20 the upper end with an arced top 5.
In the preferred embodiment illustrated in Figure 2, an applicator 2 having a generally similar shape to that of Figure l, with foam spreader 4 consisting of a flexible, elongated body of EVA Foam. The spreader body 4 is centrally mounted on base 6, having openings 3A and 3B on its face, rounded side surfaces 7 and built wider 25 towards the upper end with an arced top 5. The edges 8 of openings 3A and 3B incline inwards.
In another preferred embodiment illustrated in Figure 3, is an applicator 9 having a generally similar shape to that of Figure 1. The spreader body 4 is centrally mounted on base 6, has openings 3A and 3B on its face, and built wider towards the upper end with an arced top 5. In this alternative embodiment, the spreader body 4 consists of a flexible inner core 11 of Cork-Rubber, covered by an outer leather casing 12 as illustrated in Figure 4. The leather casing is trimmed at the edges 10 of the spreader and openings.
Spreader body 4, in the device of figure 1, being made of flexible, closed cell, EVA Foam, having a face that is built wider and arced at the upper end, provides for application of foamed cream or gel using circular motion against the skin as well as spreading the foam evenly over a large area. The openings 3A and 3B on the face of spreader 4, allow for the transfer of shaving foam to the opposite face. The placement of 1 ~ the openings towards the upper and middle region of the spreader body provide for the transfer of foam across to the opposite face, preventing the shaving foam from sliding down towards the base 6 during application. Openings 3A and 3B with inclined edges 8, allow for maximum transfer of foam to the opposite side thus minimizing entrapment of foam in the space between the opening. Turning the applicator and using the opposite I S face can use the transferred shaving foam. When aerosol shaving foam or gel is applied in a circular motion, it draws the foam along with the hair whiskers into the openings 3A &
3B creating a suction effect. This provides for a deeper distribution of foam to the root of hair whiskers. This is especially useful when hair growth on shaving area is thick. The soft texture of EVA Foam material of which the body 4 of applicator is made of, does not 20 cause damage to skin and provides for comfortable contact with skin. It also possesses good elastic properties that restore its shape and position. The design of spreader body and placement of openings 3A and 3B allow for easy wash-off of foam after use.
The spreader body placed under running water will allow the foam to be washed off the smooth surface and through the openings, leaving a clean applicator for use again.
25 Thus it is apparent that there has been provided in accordance with the invention an improved aerosol shaving foam or gel applicator that fully satisfies the objects, aims and advantages set forth above. While the invention has been described in conjunction with specific embodiments thereof, it is evident that many alternatives, modifications and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art in light of the 30 foregoing description. Accordingly, it is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications and variations as fall within the spirit and broad scope of the invention.
