Abstract

A tray stack for growing shellfish, and a method of agitating the shellfish while they are in the stack. The stack comprises a plurality of trays. Each tray comprises a base, a wall extending upwardly therefrom, and a lid atop the wall. The lid may comprise the base of the tray immediately thereabove. The lid of the uppermost tray may comprise another base. The trays are arranged one on top of the other in a stack. The tray stack comprises means for holding the trays together such that the shellfish are contained within the trays. The stack is suspended in the water while the shellfish are growing. The stack is periodically rotated about a longitudinal axis through the centre of the stack while the stack is in a generally horizontal orientation (i.e., at an angle of within 45 degrees from the horizontal) in order to agitate the shellfish.
