Abstract

The tweezers are constructed of two arms that are joined at a hinge point at one end-total length is about 5 inches (but can be made longer or shorter-the function is the same). The other ends of the arms taper to rounded tips which are brought close together (by closing thumb and fingers on the tweezers arms) in order to grasp a contact lens. In the daily use of contact lenses, the tweezer used to dip and shake the contact lens in a liquid solution to thoroughly rinse the lens of dirt and contaminants. Afterwards the contact lens can be placed on the inserter tool (or a clean finger) to subsequently place in the eye. The tweezers are to never come in direct contact with a person's eyes. The inserter also is never to be placed directly in the eye unless there is a contact lens placed on it beforehand for insertion.

The inserter is about 3-4 inches; long with a flat base (so it can be rested on a table), a stem (so it can be easily grasped and held) and a 'top' where the contact lens is placed. The top of the inserter has a dimple (depression) with radius of curvature similar to a human eyeball. This allows the contact lens to properly sit on the surface prior to insertion in the eye.
The contact lens is held securely on by the surface tension that exists between the contact lens and top of the inserter. The contact lens will adhere to eye and detach from the inserter during placement due to the greater surface area of the eye relative to the inserter.

Description

IN~JENTION TITLE
CONTACT LENS TWEEZERS AND INSERTER
DESCRIPTION
[Para 1 ] Tweezers and inserter are made of plastic or similar soft material used to grasp and handle contact tenses. l-he inserter is used to insert the contact lens into the eye. Both will (option;~lly) have a soft tip coated with silicone or rubber or an equivalent material to prevent any damage to contact lens.

Claims (3)

  1. [Claim 1] The tweezers allows one to safely and securely grasp a contact lens where it might be difficult to acquire by other means, such as in tiny bottles or from lens cases.
  2. [Claim 2] By using the tweezers, fingers do not touch the contact lenses, thereby reducing the possibility of contamination with dirt and oil. This is advantageous since it will decrease the likelihood of developing an eye infection when the contact lens is inserted. It will also aid in the daily insertion of contact lenses.
  3. [Claim 3] The inserter allows one to insert contact lenses into the eyes without the fingers coming into contact with the lens. This reduces the likelihood of any dirt, contaminants entering the eye.
