Abstract
A rucksack/bag (1) for carrying during transport, in which the rucksack/bag (1) comprises at least one detachable plane work surface (3), preferably a harder panel, in which the underside of the plane work surface (3) is joined to a soft, deformable unit (3) filled with soft, rounded beads.
Description
The present invention relates to a rucksack/bag with a base that can be detached or otherwise released in order to create a flat surface which is easy to work on, or on which items, primarily laptop computers or similar appliances, can be set up. The invention also relates to the provision of a combination with a surface suitable for marketing or advertising.
The user can take the rucksack/bag anywhere in any weather. It can be packed with any desired requisites, such as stationery, books, portable computers or whatever else is needed during or after the journey.
A common situation that is difficult to cope with occurs when one is not seated close to an ordinary table and one needs to perform various work tasks, such as taking notes, laptop or keyboard work or other work tasks, for example. A generally urgent need arises for a surface on which to rest in various situations, and for a surface on which various items can be placed, which is reasonably conducive to working and is always ready to hand. The need for a work surface may arise, at home on the sofa, for example, in a hotel, in the car or in bed.
The present invention relates to a bag or rucksack with a flat panel which can be detached or released from the bag and which comprises means enabling it to fulfil the aforementioned requirements. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the bag is designed as a rucksack, the outward-facing vertical rear side of which comprises means for displaying information and advertising on a substantially plane surface. The said means may consist of a transparent, preferably clear sheet and fasteners therefor, so that it can easily be released, in order to replace the underlying advertising material, for example. In an especially preferred embodiment such a bag also comprises a further pad with one side in the form of a plane sheet intended to be placed in the bag directly up against the rear side thereof.
Fig. 1 shows a bag according to the present invention with detachable part fully released from the rucksack/bag.
Fig. 2 shows a bag according to the present invention with detachable part remaining in the rucksack/bag.
Fig. 3 shows a bag according to the present invention in an alternative arrangement with detachable part remaining in the rucksack/bag.
Fig. 5 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The portable bag/rucksack 1 comprises at least one removable unit 2 having a plane work surface 3 or base for arranging various obj ects. The said unit 2 is fully detachable having a zip fastener, Velcro tape, press studs or other known fastening arrangement. The unit comprises a plane panel 3 with a harder plane material as work surface, the underside of the panel being joined to a soft, deformable unit 4, such as a case that is filled with suitable material, in order to compensate for irregularities in the underlying surface, for example the rounded shape of the human leg. The case may be filled with a material and a shape which compensates for and is deformed according to the underlying surface with which it comes into contact, such as soft, rounded beads of expanded polystyrene, which compensates for different shapes and irregularities of the underlying surface.
The plane, flat work surface 3 may be made of a lightweight material such as laminate, preferably with a frame around the plane panel 3 made of aluminium, for example, or other known material as a stop for various moveable objects.
The detachable unit 2 is preferably fastened to the bag/rucksack 1 with the plane surface on the outside remote from the bag/rucksack 1 and the soft, defonnable unit 4 turned inwards towards the bag/rucksack. The soft, deformable unit 4 is not limited to this fastening, however, but may also, where required, be fastened with the soft side outwards.
In use, the unit 2 with the plane panel 3 is released from the bag/rucksack 1 and placed in the desired location with the plane panel 3 preferably uppermost. The underside of the unit with the soft, deformable unit 4 in position compensates for any irregularities present in the underlying surface, which affords a stable, plane surface that is easy to work on.
With the aforementioned fastening of the unit to the bag/rucksack it is also possible to keep the detachable unit 2 in place in the bag/rucksack 1 and from this position to work with the bag/rucksack 1 lying on the knee, for example, with the plane panel turned upwards.
The bag is also provided with further storage spaces for various items, together with handles and carrier harness 5.
The plane, flat work surface 3 is not limited to one single size but may be manufactured to any size to meet the various requirements.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 5 comprises a bag 1 which is divided up into three separate compartments 2, 6, 7, each of which can be opened and closed. For many applications the size of the compartments can be suitably designed to accommodate portable computers and screens of standard design. The bag has two carrying straps SA, SB for use and transporting as a rucksack.
In addition, the bag is preferably provided with handles so that it can be carried in the hand. The rear of the bag carries a transparent, preferably clear sheet 8, which is fixed to the bag by a frame 9 and fasteners 10. The fasteners consist of screws or other means allowing the sheet 8 to be easily released in order to insert or to change advertising or information material placed between the sheet and the rear side of the bag. This material will thereby become quite visible as soon as the bag is carned on the bag and also in many other instances. The soft, deformable unit may be formed together with the rear side of the bag, in the manner described above, for example. In the preferred embodiment this unit may also be a separate unit which can be taken out of the bag and where necessary used as a separate unit.
Fig. 5 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
