Abstract
Device to provide added support, protection and movement restriction for an ostomy bag measuring less than 30 cm in height attached to a stoma, consisting of a circular extensible fabric band, soft on the skin, with no fasteners, reinforced by two broad elastic ribbons attached at the upper and lower extremities of the device to provide comfort and support of an ostomy bag and also hiding the stoma view.
The protective ostomy belt prevents the dangling, kinking and accidental disconnection of the bag and the compression of the bag when the wearer bends at the hips. The device fits under the waistline to allow the ostomate to wear undergarments and garments having tightly fitting waist bands, it also hides the ostomy bag and the stoma. The protective ostomy belt increases the ostomate's mobility, improves his or her self confidence by preventing spillage by an accidental disconnection or an accidental bag opening and improves human sexual activities by hiding the view of the ostomy bag and the stoma and, thus, improves the ostomate's self confidence and quality of life.

Description
PROTECTIVE OSTOMY BELT
DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a protective ostomy belt for an ostomy bag and stoma.
More precisely, the invention is referred to a protective support device for an ostomy bag composed of a circular exfiensible fabric band with two broad elastic ribbons fixed at the upper and lower extremities, the device being worn around the ostomate's waist.
The invention relates to a protective support belt for a bag of ostomy. More precisely, the invention is referred to a device providing added protection for the support for an ostomy bag which is composed of an extensible fabric band extensible in both ways comprising two elastic ribbons attached at the superior and inferior ends, the device being worn around the ostomate's waist. It is known that the wearing of the ostomy bag causes mobility restrictions for the ostomate. It is known in addition that the bag of ostomy must be obligatorily carried at all time by the ostomate and that this bag must be attached to stoma junction. It is known also that the usage of this bag causes physical activities restrictions due to the potential risks of wedging or spillage. It is necessary thus that the bag is firmly fixed on the abdomen of the ostomate in order to prevent its movement while making it possible for the bag to freely fill without obstruction and to offer a support and an increased comfort so that the ostomate has its complete physical mobility.
The invention is also referred to a device hiding the view of the ostomy bag and the stoma.
It is known that the ostomate's self confidence and esteem is highly diminish due to activities demanding clothing removal like human sexual intercourse and is one of the main suicide causes for ostomates. It is necessary thus that the ostomy bag and the stoma to be hidden from unwanted showing.
The invention relates to a flexible protective support belt for an ostomy bag made up from a circular fabric band, broad, extensible and not-irritant for the skin reinforced by two elastic ribbons, one located at the higher end and the other at the lower end to offer a maximum of support for the bag which primarily consists in making it go around the ostomate's waistline and maintaining the bag fixed on its abdomen, the extensible fabric makes it possible the Page 2 of 7 bag to freely fill without risk of obstruction eliminating the potential spillages risk and prevents the bag to drop down on accidental disconnection from the stoma.
According to a preferred realization, the belt is made up of a first cutting on an extensible Lycra fabric coupon, in a rectangular form of 30 cm by 67 cm for the small size, of 75 cm for the medium size, of 85 cm for the large size and of 95 cm for the extra large size, According to another preferred realization, the lower and higher end of the fabric band are folded up and bent by a double seam leaving enough spacing in order to allow the passage of the elastic ribbon of 6 mm.
According to another preferred realization of the invention, the fabric band is joined by a double seam thus forming a closed belt while leaving openings at the lower and higher free in order to run trough the elastic ribbon and then closing these openings by a single seam, this in order to allow the replacement of a defective elastic ribbon.
According to another preferred realization of the invention, the elastic ribbons are run trough in the inferior and superior hems of the belt then joined by a zigzag double seam.
Page 3 of 7 in the drawings which illustrate the invention, FIGURE 1 is a front plan view of the device representing the representative drawing of this invention, FIGURE 2 is a photograph of the same device, FIGURE 3 is a top plan view of the same device.
FIGURE 4 is a side cross-sectional view of the device, and FIGURE 5 is a front plan view of the closing point of the belt.
In reference to the drawings, it will be seen that the device (1) consists of an extensible fabric band (7) reinforced by two elastic ribbons (2) whose two ends are joined by a double seam (3) forming a closed belt (4) allowing to custom ~t the ostomate's waist size and to permit the ostomy bag (5) to expend freely.
!n reference again to the drawings more specifically to figure 4, it will be seen that the lower and upper extremities of the fabric band (7) are folded then sewed providing an opening called hems (4) to allow the run trough of the elastics ribbon (2).
It is also seen that the elastics ribbon (2) are run trough the hems (4) then joined end to end by a double zigzag seam (6) eliminating risks of elastics ribbon break up when stretched.
Finally, it is seen that the device (1) hides totally the ostomy bag (5) and the stoma preventing accidental hooking and dropping of the ostomy bag.
