Abstract
A drilling fixture for woodworking mainly includes a movable jaw, an adjustment block screwed on a base opposite to the movable jaw, and two bit locating blocks adjustably located between the movable jaw and the adjustment block. The adjustment block is provided with a vertical through slot having a predetermined height. The two bit locating blocks are movably associated with a transverse shaft and symmetrically provided at a front side with horizontally spaced groove corresponding to a tongue provided along a rear upper edge of the adjustment block. By engaging a selected pair of grooves on the bit locating blocks with the tongue on the adjustment, block, and extending a bolt through the slot on the adjustment block into the shaft, the bit locating blocks could be conveniently adjusted in vertical and lateral directions to ensure good drilling quality in woodworking.
Description
DRILLING FIXTURE FOR WOODWORKING
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a drilling fixture for woodworking, and more particularly to a drilling fixture having two bit locating blocks that may be conveniently adjusted in vertical and lateral directions to facilitate good drilling quality in woodworking.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a conventional drilling fixture for woodworking. As shown, the drilling fixture mainly includes a movable jaw 1, a plurality of fixing blocks 2, 3, and a bit locating block 4 . The movable j aw 1 is mounted on a base 5, near a front top of which there is provided a transverse groove 51. When it is desired to upward adjust the bit locating block 4 during the drilling work, the fixing block 2 is set in the groove 51 before the bit locating block 4 is assembled to the base 5, as shown in Fig.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a drilling fixture for woodworking, and more particularly to a drilling fixture having two bit locating blocks that may be conveniently adjusted in vertical and lateral directions to facilitate good drilling quality in woodworking.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a conventional drilling fixture for woodworking. As shown, the drilling fixture mainly includes a movable jaw 1, a plurality of fixing blocks 2, 3, and a bit locating block 4 . The movable j aw 1 is mounted on a base 5, near a front top of which there is provided a transverse groove 51. When it is desired to upward adjust the bit locating block 4 during the drilling work, the fixing block 2 is set in the groove 51 before the bit locating block 4 is assembled to the base 5, as shown in Fig.
2. In the event it is desired to adjust the bit locating block to an even higher position., the fixing block 3 is then assembled between the base 5 and the bit locating block 4, as shown in Fig. 3. It is very inconvenient to adjust the vertical position of the bit locating block 4 on the base 5 using the fixing blocks 2, 3 in the above-described manner. Moreover, there are so many components and parts included in the conventional drilling fixture to easily cause disorder and inconvenience in using the drilling fixture at different places. Another problem with the above-mentioned conventional drilling fixture is it does not allow lateral adjustment of the bit locating block to locate bit bores 41 thereof at accurate drilling positions.
It is therefore tried by the inventor to develop an improved drilling fixture for woodworking that eliminates drawbacks existed in the conventional drilling fixture.
SUMMARY~OF THE INVENTION
A drilling fixture for woodworking according to the present invention mainly includes a movable jaw, an adjustment block screwed on a base opposite to the movable jaw, and two bit locating blocks adjustably located between the movable jaw and the adjustment block.
The adj ustment block is provided with a vertical through slot having a predetermined height: The two bit locating blocks are movably associated with a transverse shaft and symmetrically provided at a front side with horizontally spaced groove corresponding to a tongue provided along a rear upper edge of the adjustment block. By engaging a selected pair of grooves on the bit locating blocks with the tongue on the adjustment block, and extending a bolt through the slot on the adjustment block into the shaft, the bit locating blocks could be conveniently adjusted in vertical and lateral directions to ensure good drilling quality in woodworking.

The structure and the technical means adopted by the present invention to achieve the above and other obj ects can be best understood by referring to the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments and the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a conventional drilling fixture for woodworking;

It is therefore tried by the inventor to develop an improved drilling fixture for woodworking that eliminates drawbacks existed in the conventional drilling fixture.
SUMMARY~OF THE INVENTION
A drilling fixture for woodworking according to the present invention mainly includes a movable jaw, an adjustment block screwed on a base opposite to the movable jaw, and two bit locating blocks adjustably located between the movable jaw and the adjustment block.
The adj ustment block is provided with a vertical through slot having a predetermined height: The two bit locating blocks are movably associated with a transverse shaft and symmetrically provided at a front side with horizontally spaced groove corresponding to a tongue provided along a rear upper edge of the adjustment block. By engaging a selected pair of grooves on the bit locating blocks with the tongue on the adjustment block, and extending a bolt through the slot on the adjustment block into the shaft, the bit locating blocks could be conveniently adjusted in vertical and lateral directions to ensure good drilling quality in woodworking.

11 with a manual fixture to hold bit locating blocks and wood workpiece to be drilled.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Please refer to Figs. 4 and 5 that are exploded and assembled perspective views, respectively, of a drilling fixture for woodworking according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As shown the drilling fixture of the present invention mainly includes a base 5, a movable j aw 7, an adj ustment block 8, a pair of bit locating blocks 9, a transverse shaft 10, and a bolt 11.
The adjustment block 8 is a substantially L-shaped member having a horizontal part, which is screwed to a top of the base 6 to locate opposite to and in front of the movable jaw 7, and a vertical part, which is provided along an, upper rear edge with a rearward projected tongue 81 of predetermined dimensions and on a central area with a vertically extended through slot 82 of a predetermined height.
Each of the bit locating blocks 9 is provided with a bore 91 that inclinedly extends from a top front of the bit locating block 9 to a Lower rear side of the bit locating block 9. A drilling dust exhaust opening 90 is provided on the bit locating block 9 at a position communicating with the inclined bore 91. A sleeve 92 is fitted into the inclined bore 91 from an upper end thereof, so that a bit 15 may be extended into the bore 91 via the sleeve 92. The bit locating block 9 is provided near a lower front side with a rearward extended and open-sided recess 93 having a round inner end. The shaft 10 is fitted at two ends in the round inner ends of the recesses 93 of the two bit locating blocks 9, so that the two bit locating blocks 9 are laterally movable along the shaft 10. When the bit locating blocks 9 are associated with the shaft 10, the bolt 1I is extended through the slot 82 on the adjustment block 8 to engage with a threaded hole 101 on the shaft 10, so that the bit locating blocks 9 are locked to the adjustment block 8 when the bolt 11 is fully tightened against the shaft 10 via a washer 12 and the slot 82 on the adjustment block 8.
The bit locating blocks 9 are also symmetrically provided on a front surface facing toward the adjustment block 8 with a plurality of horizontally spaced identical grooves 94 corresponding to but slightly larger than the tongue 81 on the rear upper edge of the adjustment block 8, so that the tongue 81 may be set in any one pair of the grooves 94 provided on the two bit locating blocks 9 for the bit locating blocks 9 to locate at a desired height relative to the adjustment block 8.
The shaft 10 has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the round inner end of the recess 93 on the bit locating block 9, so as to be movably mounted in the round inner end of the recess 93. The threaded hole 101 on the shaft has a diameter slightly larger than a shank diameter 10 of the bolt 11, so that the bolt 11 may be screwed into the threaded hole 101.
Please refer to Figs . 6 and 7 that are assembled sectioned side views showing the use and the height adjustment of the present invention. To adjust the bit locating blocks 9 to a different height, simply loosen the bolt 11 from the shaft 10, and move the bit locating blocks 9, which are now loosely movable, -to engage a selected pair of grooves 94 with the tongue 81 on the adjustment block 8 according to a desired height for the bit locating blocks 9, and then fully tighten the bolt 11 against the shaft 10 aga~_n. At this point, the bit locating blocks 9 are locked to the selected height and workpieces 13 and/or 14 may be firmly clamped between the j aw 7 and the bit locating blocks 9, and the bit 15 may be fitted in the inclined bore 91 to perform drilling on the workpieces 13, 14, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9.
Please refer to Fig. 10. When it is desired to adjust the bit locating blocks 9 to different lateral positions relative to the adjustment block 8, simply loosen the bolt 11 to allow the bit locating blocks 9 to move along the shaft 10 to desired positions, and then tighten the bolt 11 against the shaft 10 again, and the bit locating blocks 9 are locked in place again.
Fig. 11 shows another embodiment of the adjustment block 8, on the vertical part of which there is provided with a shallow recess 16, so that the adjustment block 8 may be dismounted.from the base 6 and used with a manual fixture 17 to firmly clamp the workpieces 13, 14 to the bit locating blocks 9, as shown in Fiq. 12.
Therefore, the present invention is very convenient and more practical for use.

11 with a manual fixture to hold bit locating blocks and wood workpiece to be drilled.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Please refer to Figs. 4 and 5 that are exploded and assembled perspective views, respectively, of a drilling fixture for woodworking according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As shown the drilling fixture of the present invention mainly includes a base 5, a movable j aw 7, an adj ustment block 8, a pair of bit locating blocks 9, a transverse shaft 10, and a bolt 11.
The adjustment block 8 is a substantially L-shaped member having a horizontal part, which is screwed to a top of the base 6 to locate opposite to and in front of the movable jaw 7, and a vertical part, which is provided along an, upper rear edge with a rearward projected tongue 81 of predetermined dimensions and on a central area with a vertically extended through slot 82 of a predetermined height.
Each of the bit locating blocks 9 is provided with a bore 91 that inclinedly extends from a top front of the bit locating block 9 to a Lower rear side of the bit locating block 9. A drilling dust exhaust opening 90 is provided on the bit locating block 9 at a position communicating with the inclined bore 91. A sleeve 92 is fitted into the inclined bore 91 from an upper end thereof, so that a bit 15 may be extended into the bore 91 via the sleeve 92. The bit locating block 9 is provided near a lower front side with a rearward extended and open-sided recess 93 having a round inner end. The shaft 10 is fitted at two ends in the round inner ends of the recesses 93 of the two bit locating blocks 9, so that the two bit locating blocks 9 are laterally movable along the shaft 10. When the bit locating blocks 9 are associated with the shaft 10, the bolt 1I is extended through the slot 82 on the adjustment block 8 to engage with a threaded hole 101 on the shaft 10, so that the bit locating blocks 9 are locked to the adjustment block 8 when the bolt 11 is fully tightened against the shaft 10 via a washer 12 and the slot 82 on the adjustment block 8.
The bit locating blocks 9 are also symmetrically provided on a front surface facing toward the adjustment block 8 with a plurality of horizontally spaced identical grooves 94 corresponding to but slightly larger than the tongue 81 on the rear upper edge of the adjustment block 8, so that the tongue 81 may be set in any one pair of the grooves 94 provided on the two bit locating blocks 9 for the bit locating blocks 9 to locate at a desired height relative to the adjustment block 8.
The shaft 10 has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the round inner end of the recess 93 on the bit locating block 9, so as to be movably mounted in the round inner end of the recess 93. The threaded hole 101 on the shaft has a diameter slightly larger than a shank diameter 10 of the bolt 11, so that the bolt 11 may be screwed into the threaded hole 101.
Please refer to Figs . 6 and 7 that are assembled sectioned side views showing the use and the height adjustment of the present invention. To adjust the bit locating blocks 9 to a different height, simply loosen the bolt 11 from the shaft 10, and move the bit locating blocks 9, which are now loosely movable, -to engage a selected pair of grooves 94 with the tongue 81 on the adjustment block 8 according to a desired height for the bit locating blocks 9, and then fully tighten the bolt 11 against the shaft 10 aga~_n. At this point, the bit locating blocks 9 are locked to the selected height and workpieces 13 and/or 14 may be firmly clamped between the j aw 7 and the bit locating blocks 9, and the bit 15 may be fitted in the inclined bore 91 to perform drilling on the workpieces 13, 14, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9.
Please refer to Fig. 10. When it is desired to adjust the bit locating blocks 9 to different lateral positions relative to the adjustment block 8, simply loosen the bolt 11 to allow the bit locating blocks 9 to move along the shaft 10 to desired positions, and then tighten the bolt 11 against the shaft 10 again, and the bit locating blocks 9 are locked in place again.
Fig. 11 shows another embodiment of the adjustment block 8, on the vertical part of which there is provided with a shallow recess 16, so that the adjustment block 8 may be dismounted.from the base 6 and used with a manual fixture 17 to firmly clamp the workpieces 13, 14 to the bit locating blocks 9, as shown in Fiq. 12.
Therefore, the present invention is very convenient and more practical for use.
Claims (11)
1. A drilling fixture for woodworking, comprising a base, a movable jaw, an adjustment block screwed to said base to locate opposite to and in front of said movable jaw, a pair of bit locating blocks located between said movable jaw and said adjustment block, a transverse shaft for said bit locating blocks to movably associate therewith, and a bolt extended through said adjustment block to engage with said shaft; and said adjustment block being a substantially L-shaped member having a horizontal part, which is screwed to said base opposite to said movable jaw, and a vertical part, which is provided along a rear upper edge with a rearward projected tongue having predetermined dimensions.
2. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein said adjustment block is provided on said vertical part with a vertical through slot having a predetermined height.
3. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said bit locating blocks is provided with a bore inclinedly extended from a top front to a lower rear side of said bit locating block.
4. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 3, wherein each of said bit locating blocks is provided at a predetermined position with a drilling dust exhaust opening communicating with said inclined bore.
5. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 3, wherein each of said inclined bores on said bit locating blocks has a sleeve fitted in an upper end of said bore.
6. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said bit locating blocks is provided near a lower front side with a rearward extended and open-sided recess having a round inner end.
7. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein said bit locating blocks are symmetrically provided on a front side with a plurality of horizontally spaced grooves corresponding to said tongue on said adjustment block.
8. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 6, wherein said shaft is fitted in said round inner ends of said recesses near lower front sides of said bit locating blocks.
9. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein said shaft is provided with a threaded hole corresponding to said through slot on said adjustment block.
10. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 9, wherein said bolt is extended through said through slot on said adjustment block into said threaded hole on said shaft.
11. The drilling fixture for woodworking as claimed in claim 1, wherein said adjustment block is provided on a front side of said vertical part with a shallow recess adapted to engage with a jaw of a manual fixture.
