Abstract

A method of playing a card game, wherein each player places an ante wager in an ante wagering area on a casino table. After all players at the table have placed their ante in their respective ante wagering area, a dealer then deals three cards face up, and sequentially places one card in each of 3 card areas on the table in front of the dealer that are designated as, "Dealer Hand 1", Dealer Hand 2" and "Dealer Hand 3". Players then bet, based on the first card drawn to the dealer hands, in order to correctly guess which of the 3 dealer hands will later be the best Blackjack hand when all 3 of these dealer hands have been played, by traditional Blackjack rules, with each players wager correspondingly being placed in the player's betting option areas, designated as "Hand 1", "Hand 2" and "Hand 3".Once the dealer has played out each of the dealer's three hands, the players which have placed a bet or wager on the dealer hand determined to be the best Blackjack hand will have a winning wager by which, in accordance with standard Blackjack rules, is the best hand is the hand closest to 21 without going over 21 (busting). In successive rounds, each of the dealer hands are reset by removing one or more cards therefrom, until the dealer hands each total 16 or less, whereby the game again resumes, with players betting again on the dealer hands shown to correctly guess which of the 3 dealer hands will later be the best Blackjack hand when all 3 of these dealer hands have been played.

Description

A METHOD OF PLAYING A CASINO CARD GAME INVOLVING WAGERING
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to wagering card games, and in particular relates to a method of playing a wagering card game of the Blackj ack variety which utilizes fast action play, and which, by virtue of the fast action play, should increase the revenues of each table for the casino. The present 6 invention also relates to a method of playing a wagering card game which is simple, easy to learn, and which increases player excitement and stress free enjoyment by providing a game in which a player's decisions at the table cannot affect other players DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
11 Casino type card games are well known and are particularly popular as wagering card games.
In particular, card games of the Blackjack variety are well known in the prior art. In such games, the cards have established numerical values, such as ace equals one or eleven, face cards equal ten and all other cards equal their face values (e.g. a two has a numerical value of two, a three has a numerical value of three, etc.). To play these card games, a player tries to reach an established target 16 numerical total by sequentially accumulating cards and summing their numerical values. Typically, two cards initially are dealt, and the player then has the option of either (1) "standing" with the two cards, or (2) requesting and being dealt one or more additional cards ("hits").
As noted above, one of the most common form of these games is the game of "Blackjack" or 21 "21 " wherein the established target numerical total is the value 21. A
player wins a wager if the numerical total of the player's cards is less than or equal to 21 and is closer to 21 than the numerical total of the dealer's cards. If the numerical total of the player's or dealer's cards exceeds 21, the respective hand is a "bust", and loses to any hand having a numerical total of 21 or less. Conventional rules of the card game Blackjack (Twenty-One) are well known in the prior art and can be found, for 26 example, in the Official Rule of Card Games, Albert H. Morehead, Fawcett Crest, New York, 1990.

1 Depending on your point of view, be it the casino's or the player's, the traditional Blackjack variety card game has different faults. One, from the casino's point of view, is that the game is actually beatable. Players can actually win at Blackjack if they use the resources available to them, such as counting cards and wager variation depending on that count of cards.
Accordingly, with this fine line that exists between winning and losing, casinos have added many side bets and alterations 6 to the game, with the sole purpose of making more money. However, this can slow the game, as even a quick dealer can only deal a player about 40 decisions per hour, making the game fast, but not as fast as many casinos, and even players, would like to see it. During the course of the game, each hand usually takes, on average, 3 cards, which can lead to frequent shuffling of the cards. As far as the casino is concerned, every time the dealer shuffles the cards, the game is down, and is not making 11 the casino money.
Furthermore, the game of Blackjack is slowed by players' decisions. Although the game itself is rather simple, many players do not understand how to play certain hands.
This causes slight delays as players talk amongst themselves regarding the best strategies, and this entire player decision I 6 process can affect the speed of the game. The players' decision making responsibilities are further compounded by such features as Surrendering, Double Down or Splitting. Often these processes slow the game, especially if the player needs chips exchanged so they have the correct amount.
Players likely see more problems with the game of Blackjack than the casino.
One of the 21 biggest problems is that players simply do not know how to play and lose their money rather quickly.
It is a game of skill and players who do not understand this may lose, for it is a very tough and unforgiving game if not played properly. When a player does not know how to play, or doesn't understand the game, it often invokes frustration amongst the participants at the table, because a decision of one individual player at the table can affect other players. Many times arguments occur 26 at the tables because a player who doesn't know how to play is perceived to be the reason other players are losing. This can be considered a potentially serious fault with the game of Blackjack.
Although when things go well it is a social game, there is a high degree of tension present that is sometimes detrimental to one's enjoyment level at the tables.
In an attempt to rectify some of the faults inherent in "Blackjack" or "21 ", other similar Blackjack-type games have been devised. One such game is "California Blackjack", as described in U.S. Patent No. 5,275,415 (Wisted), wherein the established numerical total is the value 22. In 6 "California Blackjack", a player tries to get closer to 22 than the dealer (usually a "player banker") If the player's numerical total exceeds 22, the hand is not "bust". Other established numerical target totals are of course possible. For example, in U.S. Patent No. 5,549,300 (Sardarian), the target numerical sum is 20. In fact, any target numerical sum that is consistent with the established values of the cards may be used.
A method of playing a wagering game is disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 5,452,900 (Skratulia et al), in which the use of an action player and a fast action bank is developed as an adjunct to numerous existing games, including Pan Nine, Pai Gow Poker, California Blackjack and Blackjack Jokers. In this type of wagering game, the players actively participate against one another by 16 comparing hands and settling wagers in a sequential manner. However, in Skratulia et al, the dealer only deals cards to the several players and otherwise does not participate in the playing of the game.
Despite the development of Blackjack-type card games and methods of wagering, a need still exists for a wagering card game of the Blackjack variety which is simple to play, easy to learn, and 21 which can be played at a very fast pace, and which should increase the revenues of each table for the casino. Moreover, such a wagering card game should increase player excitement and stress free enjoyment by providing a game in which a player's decisions at the table cannot affect other players.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is described below with reference to the 11 accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a flow chart illustrating a method of playing a card game according to one embodiment of the present invention;
16 Figure 2 is a continuation of the flow chart shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is plan view illustrating an example gaming table layout for use in playing a casino version of a card game according to one embodiment of the method of the present invention;
and Figure 4 illustrates a sample arrangement through which a virtual embodiment of the present invention can be effected.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The present invention is a variant of the standard game of casino Blackjack.
The game can be implemented in a variety of embodiments, such as, but not limited to, a physical embodiment played at a casino, and virtual embodiments played on a desktop computer or other computing device. By 1 way of further illustration and without intending to limit the present invention, virtual embodiments can include kiosks or other similar stand-alone devices configured to play the game, computer software implementing the invention which runs on a user's computer, and network based software which uses wired or wireless networks, such as the Internet or cellular telephone networks to communicate and coordinate the game with one or more remote computing devices.

Referring now to the drawings, the game consists of a table felt layout with a number of playing positions, and, preferably, a standard game utilizing the method of the present invention may be set up at such a table, much like a blackjack table, with 7 designated positions for players, it being understood that there need be no limit or restriction on that number, whether more or less. In a 11 preferred embodiment, the game is designed for play with 8 (eight) decks of cards, namely because 8 (eight) decks of cards is the number of decks many casinos currently use and the shoe and the discard rack (that holds the spent cards) in these casinos already accommodate that number of decks.
It is also understood, however, that the game can function equally as well utilizing any given number of card decks, either higher or lower than 8.

With reference to Figure 3, on the table felt ( 1 ) of the casino table used in one embodiment of the present invention there will be betting spaces for each player, as hereinafter described. In a preferred embodiment, a standard game will comprise 4 (four) different play areas for each player.
The first of these play areas is an "Ante" wagering area (3), as seen in Figure 3. With respect to the 21 remaining play areas, these provide that each player will also have their own betting option areas comprised of, "Hand 1" (5), "Hand 2" (7) and "Hand 3" (9). In an alternative embodiment, it should be noted that the game of the present invention could be played with more or less than 3 betting option areas in different variations of the same game, such as, for example, utilizing one or more betting option areas or wagering areas.

In a further embodiment, it is also conceivable that each betting option area could be a different color so as to further easily distinguish each one from the others.
For instance, "Hand 1" (5) may be the color Blue, "Hand 2" (7) the color red and "Hand 3" (9) the color yellow. In a still further 1 embodiment, the actual colors of each of the betting option areas may vary from table to table, so they may be easily distinguishable from each other.
The dealer has a card area in front of them that designates at least 3 card areas as, "Dealer Hand I" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15). Each of these card areas will 6 correspondingly use the same color scheme as in the players betting option areas, so the two are further linked by associating a color and number. For example, a player's "Hand I" (5) area will correspond in both number and color to a dealers "Hand 1 " ( 11 ) card area, and so on.
It is understood that each table will have its own Minimum and Maximum Ante limits that will 11 be posted at the table. In a preferred embodiment, players are not allowed to ante lower than the minimum, or higher than the table maximum. To start each new game, each player must place a conforming ante in the Ante wagering area (3), and, in a preferred embodiment, what a player antes or wagers into the Ante wagering area (3) at the start of each new game will determine what they must correspondingly wager in any of their betting option areas, namely "Hand I"
(5), "Hand 2" (7) and 16 "Hand 3" (9), each round for that particular game. It will, of course, be understood to those skilled in the art that games could also be conceived and played which utilize differing wagers which are placed in the Ante wagering area (3) and in the player's betting option areas, "Hand 1" (5), "Hand 2"
(7) and "Hand 3" (9). As noted previously, the Ante or wager made by the player is first made at the start of a new game, and before a player ever sees any of the cards.

After all players at the table have placed their ante in the Ante wagering area (3), the game begins. The dealer then deals three cards face up, so that the players can plainly see the cards, and sequentially places, in the preferred embodiment, one card in each of the 3 (three) card areas on the table in front of the dealer that are, as mentioned previously, designated as, "Dealer Hand 1 " ( I 1 ), 26 Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15). In beginning the game, the first card placed by the dealer in the "Dealer Hand 1" ( 11 ) is placed in the furthest left space for the " Dealer Hand 1 " area on the table, marked as (25), the first card placed by the dealer in the "Dealer Hand 2" ( 13) is placed in the furthest left space for the " Dealer Hand 2" area marked as (27), and the first card placed by 1 the dealer in the "Dealer Hand 3" (15) is placed in the furthest left space for the "Dealer Hand 3" area marked as (29). Subsequent cards drawn and placed by the dealer for each of these dealer hand areas will, of course, be placed to the first right space of the first card so placed. The object of the game is for each of the players to correctly guess which of the 3 hands in front of the dealer ("Dealer Hand 1" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15)) will end up being the best Blackjack hand 6 when all 3 of these hands have been played, as the house currently plays their Blackjack hand by traditional Blackjack rules (ie: hitting on all 16's and standing on all 17's, and a hand going numerically over 21 being a bust). It is of course, also understood that more than 3 dealer hands may also, in an alternative embodiment of the game, utilize more than 3 dealer hands. In a preferred embodiment, a natural 2-card Blackjack (an Ace and a Face card) beats a hand consisting of 3 or more 11 cards that also provide for a total of 21, although it is conceivable that, in an alternative embodiment, in some variations of this same game both hands could be paid as winners by the casino.
Each of the players then bet or wager on either "Dealer Hand 1" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15), with the players wager correspondingly being placed, in the preferred 16 embodiment, in any one of the player's betting option areas, namely "Hand 1" (5), "Hand 2" (7) and "Hand 3" (9), the wager placed being equal to the ante amount wagered in the Ante wagering area (3).
In the preferred embodiment, the player's wager or bet must match their Ante, never higher or lower.
For example, if a player decided that Dealer Hand 1 ( 11 ) was most likely to be the best Blackjack hand, then the player would place their bet or wager in the player's "Hand 1"
(5) betting option area, 21 and so forth. In an alternative embodiment, and in a variation of the game, a player may place wagers or bets in more than one of the betting option areas. Once players have placed a bet in the betting option areas, however, they cannot remove or alter that bet until the next round.
The dealer now finishes off this round by playing each of the dealer's three hands, which as 26 mentioned previously, are designated as, "Dealer Hand 1" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15). In doing so, the dealer begins by placing a card in "Hand 1". In a preferred embodiment, each card drawn and placed in any of the"Dealer Hand 1" ( 11 ), Dealer Hand 2" ( 13) 1 and "Dealer Hand 3" (15) area is always placed to the right of the previous card placed on the table for that particular hand area. More specifically, a second card drawn and placed in Dealer Hand 1 ( 11 ) area would be placed in an area (31 ) to the right of the previous card placed on the table in the Dealer Hand 1 area (11), a second card drawn and placed in Dealer Hand 2 (13) area would be placed in an area (33) to the right of the previous card placed on the table in the Dealer Hand 2 area (13), and a 6 second card drawn and placed in Dealer Hand 3 (15) area would be placed in an area (35) to the right of the previous card placed on the table in the Dealer Hand 3 area (15). After each card has been drawn and placed, the dealer quickly evaluates the total contained for that hand in that particular dealer hand area. If "Dealer Hand 1 "( 11 ) totals 17 or higher, or has busted, that hand does not receive any more cards (as per standard Black Jack type rules) and the dealer then moves on to play "Dealer 1 Hand 2" (13), it being understood that there is no limit to the number of cards a particular hand may draw in any of the Dealer Hand areas. Cards are then drawn and placed by the dealer into "Dealer Hand 2" (13) until such time as the hand has a total of any 17 or higher, or has busted. This same process is repeated by the dealer to draw and place cards in the "Dealer Hand 3" (15) area.
16 After all 3 of the Dealer hands have been drawn and placed by the dealer in each of the "Dealer Hand 1" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15) areas, each player's wager on any of these dealer hands will be determined as being a winning wager, a losing wager, or, in certain variations, a pushed wager, having neither won nor lost (it of course being understood by those skilled in the art that a "push" is when two hands finished tied as the top hand).
More particularly, the dealer 21 determines which of the players' wagers are won or lost by first determining which is the best of the three dealer hands, namely "Dealer Hand 1" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) or "Dealer Hand 3" (15).
Accordingly, any of the players which have placed a bet or wager on the dealer hand determined to be the best Blackjack hand will have a winning wager. In the preferred embodiment, and in accordance with standard Blackjack rules, the best hand is the hand closest to 21 without going over 26 21 (busting). Accordingly, if one dealer hand is closest to 21, beating the other two dealer hands outright, this is the winning hand. All players that placed their wager on that particular dealer hand will be winners and will be paid even money (depending on the variation used).
Players who bet on the other two outcomes will have lost their wager in this situation.

As in regular Blackjack, a two-card hand consisting of 21 beats a hand of 21 that consists of more than 2 cards. In alternative variations of the game, it is conceivable that a natural 2-card Blackjack hand may pay higher odds to the player, such as, for example 1'/2 , 2 or 3 to 1 odds. Of course, it is understood that the dealer will follow rules laid out by the casino to determine the best of the 3 dealer hands, and that these rules can vary from casino to casino, depending on the variations 6 of the game used.
Here are some examples from the start of the game. Players place their Ante in the Ante wagering area (3), then:
11 Dealer places one card in each of the "Dealer Hand 1" ( 11 ), Dealer Hand 2" ( 13 ) and "Dealer Hand 3" (15) areas:
Dealer Hand 1 ) 6 Dealer Hand 2) Jack (all face cards have a value of 10) 16 Dealer Hand 3) Ace (all aces are either 1 or 11, whatever total gives the dealer a total of 17 through 21) Now players wager a bet equal to their ante on the hand they think will be the best Blackjack hand of the three dealer hands, in any of the player's betting option areas, namely, "Hand 1 ", Hand 2" or 21 "Hand 3".
The dealer now plays each dealer hand (continued example):
Dealer Hand 1 ) 6, 7 (Totals 13 so hits again), 4 (Totals 17 so stops and plays Hand 2) 26 Dealer Hand 2) Jack, Queen (Totals 20, stops, plays Hand 3) Dealer Hand 3) Ace, 5 (Totals soft 6 or 16, must hit), 6, (Totals 12, must hit) King (Totals 22, Hand busted, (going over a total of 21 ), finished playing the hands) The dealer would determine Dealer Hand 2 is the Winner, and pay all players' wagers that had 31 bet on Dealer Hand 2. Players who wagered on Dealer Hands 1 and 3 would lose their wagers. Now the dealer would reset each dealer hand (see example continued below, and as hereinafter described).
Depending on the variation of the Blackjack game used, and as by the house rules used by the casino, if two dealer hands finished tied as the top hand, this tie may be broken, or both count as 36 pushes, or both paid even money. In one embodiment, one way the push could be broken is using the best poker hand of the two hands, as would be laid out in the rules of the game. If the pushes are broken, only one winning dealer hand would be paid, either, "Dealer Hand 1 ", Dealer Hand 2" or "Dealer Hand 3". Players that bet on the winning dealer hand win their wager, while betting on either of the losing dealer hands results in a lost wager.
In a still further embodiment, if all 3 dealer hands finish tied, without all busting, then 6 depending on the house rules and variation for this game, a winner could be decided using a hand breaking method like best poker hand, or all the dealer hands could be pushed hands, or all hands may win and even be paid odds like 2 to 1. In yet another variation, if all dealer hands tied, the casino could win all these wagers, including the ante bet and the game would end. A
new game would be started with the players placing new ante bets, and all cards on the table would be discarded. A new 11 round would begin.
In a preferred embodiment, if all three dealer hands go over the total of 21, all three dealer hands are considered to be "busted". When this occurs, all players' wagers and all players' antes are lost to the house. All cards are discarded and a new game would begin. In an alternative embodiment 16 of the game, it is also possible that the casino or house could also permit the players to keep their antes when all three dealer hands bust, and only the player's wagers or bets are lost to the house.
In the event that the game does not end using the methods described above, the game continues and a new further round is played once all outcomes in the first round have been decided 21 by the dealer. Typically, each player's ante stays in the ante wagering area, and a new round is played.
In a preferred embodiment, players are not allowed to alter their ante placed in the ante wagering area.
It should be noted that there are ways a player may be allowed to alter their antes, as hereinafter described, but only in certain variations of the game offered by the casino.
26 In beginning this new round, the dealer, after the previous rounds decisions are paid and taken and before players place new wagers for the next rounds in any of the player's betting option areas (namely "Hand 1" (5), "Hand 2" (7) and "Hand 3" (9)), "Dealer Hand 1", Dealer Hand 2" and "Dealer Hand 3" are reset depending on the variation used in that game. The first thing the dealer does is take the left most card from each of the 3 dealer hands used previously in the last round, and I discards those cards, while, at the same time, sliding all of the remaining cards each one place to the left. If any of "Dealer Hand I" (11), Dealer Hand 2" (13) or "Dealer Hand 3"
(15) still consists of a hand total of 17 or more after resetting, the left most card is again removed and the remaining cards are again shifted one more position on the table to the left again. For example, if "Dealer Hand 1"
consists of a hand totaling any 17 or more, the left most card is buried and the cards are shifted one 6 position on the table to the left again. The dealer now totals "Dealer Hand 1". If "Dealer Hand 1"
consists of a hand totaling 17 or more, the left most card is again removed and the cards are shifted one position on the table to the Left again. This same procedure is repeated as many times as necessary until "Dealer Hand 1" totals 16 or less. This exact same procedure occurs for "Dealer Hand 2" and "Dealer Hand 3". This entire procedure likely takes no more than 5 seconds in total for a 11 dealer to evaluate and adjust all three dealer hands. It is understood that is not imperative that the left most card always be removed when resetting the dealer hands. It is also conceivable, for example, that the right most card be removed from any of the dealer hands when resetting the dealer hands for another round of play. It is also understood that the dealer hands need not be reset to total 16 or less;
In fact, any suitable pre-determined number could be used, depending upon the variation of the game 16 being played.
This can be shown, by way of illustration, by expanding upon the example used earlier. In the last example, the first round ended as follows:
21 Dealer Hand 1 ) 6, 7, 4 (Totals 17) Dealer Hand 2) Jack, Queen (Totals 20) Dealer Hand 3) Ace, 5 6, King (Totals 22, Hand busted) After the dealer has paid all winning hands to the players, and collected all losing wagers, the dealer 26 would reset each dealer hand by removing the left card from each of "Dealer Hand 1" (the 6), Dealer Hand 2" (the Jack) and ''Dealer Hand 3" (the Ace) as follows:
Dealer Hand 1 ) 7, 4 (Totals 11 ) Dealer Hand 2) Queen (Totals 10) 31 Dealer Hand 3) 5, 6, King (Totals 21) The dealer now looks at each of the three dealer hands and to make sure each is 16 or less with 1 no busted hands on the table, in accordance with standard Blackjack rules.
"Dealer Hand 1" now totals 11, so this hand is fine. "Dealer Hand 2" totals 10, so this hand is fine. "Dealer Hand 3" totals 21. "Dealer Hand 3" needs to be reset again for it totals 17 or more, so the left most card is removed leaving the dealer hands as follows:
6 Dealer Hand 1 ) 7, 4 (Totals I I ) Dealer Hand 2) Queen (Totals 10) Dealer Hand 3) 6, King (Totals 16) "Dealer Hand 3" now totals 16 after the 5 was removed and is a good hand. The game continues from 11 this point as each player now wagers on any of the three dealer hands.
After the players have wagered, the dealer would play each dealer hand (in this example) as follows:
Dealer Hand 1 ) 7, 4 (Totals 11 ) 9 (Totals 20, and plays Dealer Hand 2) Dealer Hand 2) Queen (Totals 10) Ace (Totals Blackjack, plays Dealer Hand 3) 16 Dealer Hand 3) 6, King (Totals 16) Ace (Totals 17, finished playing Dealer Hands) The dealer would determine Dealer Hand 2 is the Winner, and pay all players' wagers that had bet on Dealer Hand 2. As mentioned previously, in one embodiment this could pay a bonus, like 2 to I odds for each player as it was a natural blackjack in just two cards.
Players who wagered on 21 Dealer Hands 1 and 3 would lose their wagers. Now the dealer would again reset each dealer hand (see example continued below).
Dealer Hand I) 4, 9 (Totals 13) Dealer Hand 2) Ace (Totals 1 or 1 I ) 26 Dealer Hand 3) King, Ace (Totals 21 or Blackjack) After taking the left most cards from each of the three dealer hands, only "Hand 3" needs to be reset by taking the King away leaving the dealer hands like this:
31 Dealer Hand 1) 4, 9 (Totals 13) Dealer Hand 2) Ace (Totals 1 or 1 I ) Dealer Hand 3) Ace (Totals 1 or 11) Players would now place their bets on any of the three dealer hands. After all players have wagered, 36 the dealer plays the three dealer hands (continuing this example) as follows:

Dealer Hand 1) 4, 9 (Totals 13) Ten (Totals 23, busted, play Dealer Hand 2) Dealer Hand 2) Ace (Totals 1 or 11 ) 3 (Totals 4 or 14, hit again) 8 (Totals 12, hit again) Ten (Totals 22, busted, play Dealer Hand 3) Dealer Hand 3) Ace (Totals 1 or 11) Ace (Totals 2 or 12, hit again) King (Totals 12, hit again) Jack (Totals 22, busted, finished playing dealer hands) In this example, the dealer would determine all Dealer Hands Busted, and that all players have lost. Players would lose both their Ante amount placed in the Ante wagering area (3) and their Wagers placed in any of the player's betting option areas, namely "Hand 1"
(5), "Hand 2" (7) and "Hand 3" (9), and a new game would start. Now the dealer would again reset each dealer hand by 11 burying all cards on the table. Players playing the next game would place a new ante in the ante wagering area (3), and a new game would start, as previously described.
One game may consist of an unlimited number of rounds, from one to many, although, in a preferred embodiment, the average game would take about 12 rounds to play.
Round after round is 16 played within a game until all three hands tie or, all bust, in the same round, thus ending that game, depending on the variation of the game being offered by the casino.
At any time a player may quit or fold their ante, as in poker, and is out of that game. If a player 21 does not or cannot match the ante amount they have wagered in the ante wagering area (3), they forfeit their Ante to the house. In the preferred embodiment, players may not sit out rounds within a game, as that constitutes folding; the casino takes the player's ante and the player is done playing for that game. In the manner of playing the game described previously, games played in accordance with the present invention can be played at a very fast pace, and the average game, as noted above, takes about 26 12 rounds to play. In actual time, this could amount to 8 to 10 minutes of play.
In an alternative embodiment, it should also be noted that new players may join in the game during any round. There is no advantage to doing so. In this embodiment, if a player wishes to join a game currently under way, that player would place an ante wager in the ante wagering area (3). The 31 dealer would note this player as joining in the middle of a game, and place a chip on the table layout in front of the dealer. The chip is moved in front of the dealer on the table layout to the right of the furthest right most card of any of the three hands, wherein the chip will move one space to the left 1 after the completion of each round. The new player wishing to join in the game may not start wagering until their chip has moved from its current position to the very left, at which point the player wishing to join has his ante wager placed into an ante wagering area (3) particular to that player.
During this waiting time the players ante is not at risk of being lost. In essence a player has a delay of a few rounds before they may join in. Each round their token is moved left until it is in the far left 6 column. In a further embodiment, it is also conceivable that a player could exit a live game using this very same method. A player leaving a game would be given his ante back and would be out of the game. In a still further embodiment, it could be possible that a player may increase or decrease their ante in this same manner.
11 In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a cut card can be used by the casino to cut the cards. This cut card, as is known, is usually a plastic piece the same size as a regular playing card, the dealer inserting this card into the decks used in the game, generally about a full deck from the end of the cards before placing the cards into the shoe and starting a new game, though there is no restriction on where in the deck the cut card is placed. When a game is being played and this cut card 16 comes out of the shoe, the round being played is completed, but no further rounds are played until the cards are reshuffled. At this time, all players may take back their ante wager from the ante wagering area (3), or alter the amount of the wager, for the cut card signifies the end of the current game and a new game will start after the cards are shuffled.
21 As mentioned previously, that, in the preferred embodiment, and in accordance with standard Blackjack rules, the best hand is the hand closest to 21 without going over 21 (busting). However, it will be understood to persons skilled in the art that, the present invention could also be played utilizing any number, such as 31, as a numerical total.
26 In an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the game play previously described herein can also be applied to a virtual embodiment, as would be apparent to a person skilled in the art.
For example, game play could begin with a player pressing a button to effect a computer "shuffling"
a desired or pre-selected number of decks. Further interface buttons can be used to indicate the wager of "chips" by a player into the ante wagering area and the betting option areas. In a still further 1 embodiment. Figure 4 illustrates a sample arrangement through which a virtual embodiment of the present invention could be implemented. Such an arrangement supports a wide variety of implementations including, but not limited to, kiosks, home computers and client/server based arrangements (which may be useful in casinos and on the Internet). As Figure 4 illustrates, a virtual embodiment will preferably display a user interface to a player through a display device (39). A user 6 interface device (41 ) can include, but is not limited to, any of a mouse, keyboard, touch screen display, j oystick, touch pad or voice recognition system, which is preferably provided to effect user interaction with the virtual embodiment. Game software (43) interprets the information from the user interface (41 ) and generates the user interface to be displayed on display device (39) based on the information and the rules of the game. Information needed by the game software (43) such as bet values for the 11 players) and the like, can be stored in a computer's random access memory (45) and/or hard disk drive/Non-Volatile storage (4?). A Microprocessor (49), of course, would be the heart of any such system described, executing the computations necessary to run the game software (43).
The present invention has been described herein with regard to preferred embodiments.
16 However, it will be obvious to persons skilled in the art that a number of variations and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as described herein.
