Abstract
The present invention an exhaust filter system comprises a series of piping, baffle bodies and filter bodies and valves receiving exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine, whereby the flow of exhaust gases is directed through the following elements: a) firstly, a baffle body containing baffles reducing the pressure and flow of the gases there through, b) secondly a filter body containing filter elements for filtering impurities from the exhaust gases, c) thirdly, connecting pipes directing the flow of exhaust gases either to the air intake of the internal combustion engine or through a further series of filter bodies; and d) valves releasing the residual exhaust gases into the fuel tank of the vehicle and providing for an over pressure condition with the pressure relief valve.
Description
Title: EXHAUST FILTER
Field of the Invention [001] The present invention relates to a treatment of exhaust gases and particularly relates to exhaust filtering systems.
Background of the Invention [002] Internal combustion engines have been in existence for some time and produce numerous exhaust gases which are damaging to the environment. Exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine are generally fed through catalatic converters and then through a sound muffling and or dampening system and then out into the atmosphere.
Included in those exhaust gases are many elements, including carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and trioxide, nitrous oxides and other damaging elements to the environment.

[003] It is desirable to have a system which enables further filtering and purification of the exhaust gases that are emitted from the tail pipes and/or muffles of existing internal combustion engines which can either be retrofitted to existing vehicles and/or designed and manufactured by the original equipment manufacturer right into the new vehicle production.
Summary of the Invention [004] The present invention comprises an exhaust filtering system including a series of piping, baffle bodies and filter bodies and valves receiving exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine, whereby the flow of exhaust gases is directed through the following elements:
a. firstly, a baffle body containing baffles reducing the pressure and flow of the gases there through, b. secondly a filter body containing filter elements for filtering impurities from the exhaust gases, c. thirdly, connecting pipes directing the flow of exhaust gases either to the air intake of the internal combustion engine or through a further series of filter bodies;
d. valves releasing the residual exhaust gases into the fuel tank of the vehicle and providing for an over pressure condition with the pressure relief valve.
Brief Description of the Drawings [005] Figure 1 is a schematic flow diagram of the exhaust filter system which comprises the present invention shown together with the exhaust gases received from an internal combustion engine together with a muffler which is normally found on a vehicle.
Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment [006] The present invention comprises an exhaust filtering system, includes the following major components, connecting scoop 15, connecting pipe 16, baffle body 17 having baffles 18 therein, filter body 20 including carbonated filters 41 and baffle 21, filter bodies 23 including release valve 25, fuel tank 26, pressure relief valve 29 and connecting pipes 22 and 30 connecting to air intake 32.
In Use [007] Figure 1 shows schematically the exhaust filtering system 10 together with portions of the normal exhaust of an internal combustion engine. Figure 1 shows exhaust gases 11 which are emanating from an internal combustion engine flowing through muffler inlet pipe 12 into muffler 13 and out through muffler outlet pipe 14, all of which are normally part of the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine not shown in Figure 1. The exhaust gases from there enter into the exhaust filtering system 10 which is the subject matter of the present invention. The flow of exhaust gases is shown generally as 11 throughout the diagram by way of arrows indicating the travel of flow of the exhaust gases through the exhaust filtering system. Connecting scoop 15 attaches to muffler outlet pipe 14, such that exhaust gases 11 are directed through directing pipe 16 and on through baffle body 17 containing baffles 18, thereby flowing the flow of exhaust gases through the exhaust filtering system 10. From there the exhaust gases flow through connecting pipe 19 and on through filter body 20 which contains carbonated filters and/or glass filters and/or other filters known in the art for filtering exhaust gases. Prior to exiting filter body 20, exhaust gases are restricted through baffle 21 for controlling the flow of exhaust gases 11 through filter body 20 and enter either through connecting pipe 22 into air intake 32 and/or travel alternatively through additional sets of filter bodies 23 being connected with connecting pipes 24. Filter bodies 23 again contain filtering materials such as glass, fibre or carbonated materials etc., which again remove undesirable elements from the exhaust gases as they flow through filter bodies 23. Release valve 25 allows gases to pass through a fuel tank inlet 27 into fuel tank 26 where the remaining exhaust gases are stored together with uncombusted fuel stored in fuel tank 26. Additionally, if there is no repressed condition, a pressure relief valve 29 releases pressure from fuel tank 26 and allows gases to escape through connecting pipe 30 also to air intake 32.

[008] By using this method the exhaust gases 11 which are emanating from internal combustion engines can be further cleaned and refined and stores where possible in fuel tank 26 and alternatively reburned through the air intake 32 of the internal combustion engine not shown.
[009] By implementing exhaust filtering system 10 onto any existing conventional internal combustion engines or for that matter newly manufactured internal combustion engines, the level of pollutance emitted by the exhaust gases emitted by internal combustion engines can be significantly reduced, thereby providing for a cleaner operating vehicle.
[010] It should be apparent to persons skilled in the arts that various modifications and adaptation of this structure described above are possible without departure from the spirit of the invention the scope of which defined in the appended claim.
