Abstract
A backflow valve/valve extractor combination. A valve body is provided with a flow channel in which is positioned a valve seat. An access opening provides access from above to the valve seat. A valve receptacle is positioned on the valve body along a peripheral edge of the access opening. A
valve is provided having a main body and a pivotally mounted gate. The main body has a profile which is adapted to be received in the valve receptacle. An extension handle is secured to the main body of the valve. This permits a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and to surface through an access pipe.
valve is provided having a main body and a pivotally mounted gate. The main body has a profile which is adapted to be received in the valve receptacle. An extension handle is secured to the main body of the valve. This permits a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and to surface through an access pipe.
Claims (5)
1. A backflow valve/valve extractor, comprising in combination:
a valve body with a substantially horizontal flow channel, the flow channel having a first end and a second end, a valve seat positioned between the first end and the second end, a substantially vertical access opening providing access from above to the valve seat, at least one receptacle positioned on the valve body along a peripheral edge of the access opening;
a valve adapted to engage the valve body, the valve having a main body and a pivotally mounted gate depending from the main body, the main body having a profile adapted to be received in the at least one receptacle positioned along the peripheral edge of the access opening, when the profile of the main body of the valve is engaged with the at least one receptacle on the valve body the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat, such that the pivotally mounted gate pivots to permit a flow of liquid in a first direction and the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat to prevent a flow of liquid in a second direction; and an extension handle secured to the main body of the valve, thereby permitting a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the at least one receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and then to surface through an access pipe.
a valve body with a substantially horizontal flow channel, the flow channel having a first end and a second end, a valve seat positioned between the first end and the second end, a substantially vertical access opening providing access from above to the valve seat, at least one receptacle positioned on the valve body along a peripheral edge of the access opening;
a valve adapted to engage the valve body, the valve having a main body and a pivotally mounted gate depending from the main body, the main body having a profile adapted to be received in the at least one receptacle positioned along the peripheral edge of the access opening, when the profile of the main body of the valve is engaged with the at least one receptacle on the valve body the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat, such that the pivotally mounted gate pivots to permit a flow of liquid in a first direction and the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat to prevent a flow of liquid in a second direction; and an extension handle secured to the main body of the valve, thereby permitting a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the at least one receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and then to surface through an access pipe.
2. The backflow valve/valve extractor as defined in Claim 1, wherein the main body of the valve is weighted.
3. The backflow valve/valve extractor as defined in Claim 1, wherein the extension handle is detachably secured to the
4. main body of the valve.
4. The backflow valve/valve extractor as defined in Claim 3, wherein there is a snap lock engagement between the extension handle and the main body of the valve.
4. The backflow valve/valve extractor as defined in Claim 3, wherein there is a snap lock engagement between the extension handle and the main body of the valve.
5. A backflow valve/valve extractor, comprising in combination:
a valve body with a substantially horizontal flow channel, the flow channel having a first end and a second end, a valve seat positioned between the first end and the second end, a substantially vertical access opening providing access from above to the valve seat, a valve receptacle forming a polygon with an odd number of sides positioned on the valve body along a peripheral edge of the access opening;
a valve adapted to engage the valve body, the valve having a weighted main body and a pivotally mounted gate depending from the main body, the main body having a handle receptacle, the main body having a polygon profile adapted to be received in the valve receptacle positioned along the peripheral edge of the access opening, when the profile of the main body is engaged with the valve receptacle on the valve body, the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat, such that the pivotally mounted gate pivots to permit a flow of liquid in a first direction and the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat to prevent a flow of liquid in a second direction; and an extension handle detachably secured in snap lock engagement within the handle receptacle of the main body of the valve, thereby permitting a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the valve receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and then to surface through an access pipe.
a valve body with a substantially horizontal flow channel, the flow channel having a first end and a second end, a valve seat positioned between the first end and the second end, a substantially vertical access opening providing access from above to the valve seat, a valve receptacle forming a polygon with an odd number of sides positioned on the valve body along a peripheral edge of the access opening;
a valve adapted to engage the valve body, the valve having a weighted main body and a pivotally mounted gate depending from the main body, the main body having a handle receptacle, the main body having a polygon profile adapted to be received in the valve receptacle positioned along the peripheral edge of the access opening, when the profile of the main body is engaged with the valve receptacle on the valve body, the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat, such that the pivotally mounted gate pivots to permit a flow of liquid in a first direction and the pivotally mounted gate engages the valve seat to prevent a flow of liquid in a second direction; and an extension handle detachably secured in snap lock engagement within the handle receptacle of the main body of the valve, thereby permitting a person exerting a force upon the extension handle to disengage the profile from the valve receptacle and pull the valve through the access opening and then to surface through an access pipe.
