Abstract

A jig saw puzzle holder has a base that holds the lids, the lids are releasably secured to the base. The lids are placed on top of the base and secured by Velcro, elastic, or spring fastenings.

Description

,lig Saw Puzzle Holder This invention relates to a jig saw puzzle holder with various releasable fastening mechanisms and new construction features.
~lig saw puzzle holders are well known items, used for constructing or storing a completed or partially completed jig saw puzzle. The holder comprises of a jig saw puzzle construction base, having the form of an oblong shaped working surface area, and the thickness of the base being sufficient to give it stiffness.The holders usually include one lid or two lids,and a common design is to hinge the lid or lids to the base.The fully or partially constructed jig saw is sandwiched in between the base lid or lids. The jig saw puzzle is constructed after the lid or lids have been seperated from the base working surface, leaving the latter fully exposed.
Puzzle holders can however be problematic when the user wishes to use the lid for partial construction of the jig saw base. The lids can be cumbersome, especially in restricted spaces.
According to the present invention there is provided a jig saw puzzle holder with the lids and base having inventive releasable fastening features, and the lids and base bei~zg constructed in an inventive way.
The six complete puzzle holders detailed in this invention ail have two detachable lids, and new technical features.
Model A,puzzle holder has extruded base and lids, with the lids being adapted to slide on and of the ends of the base and along the underside of the base.The fastening features are an integral part of the lids and base.
Model B,puzzle holder,is extruded but only illustrates the construction of the base and lid parts.
SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) Model C,puzzle holder, is made by the vacuum forming process with the lids being adapted to slide on and off the ends of the base and along the underside of the base. The fastening features are an integral part of the lids and base.
Model D,puzzle holder is again made by the vacuum forming process, with the lids being located inside the cavity base.
Model E,puzzle holder is made from cloth and wood with the lids being made from stretchable cloth, and the fastenings elasticated.
Model F,puzzle holder is made from cloth and cardboard,with a laminated base and laminated lids. The fastenings are Velcro patches located in pockets, cavities or recesses.
A specific embodiement of the Model A puzzle holder will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which.

SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ 8 Description Model A Holder Referring to the drawing,the jig saw holder comprises a plastic extruded jig saw base 62,two detachable plastic extruded lids 29.Both base and lids include plastic extruded end-pieces,these being ,lid end pieces 1 to 8,and base end pieces 1 to S,the end pieces are multi purpose components.
The lid end pieces or beading are used to strengthen and stiffen the lid component,and also to prevent the jig saw pieces from sliding off the lid, when the lid is being used as a construction board,together,with these uses the end pieces are used to stop the lids from slipping offthe jig saw base when the holder is closed, this is achieved by using the beading for location purposes.The base end pieces or beading are used to strengthen or stiffen the base component.

In fig 22,both lids are shown to have been removed from the top of the base and relocated along the underside of the base, the lids are attached to the underside of the base by using guideways,with the guideways in the base being,male vee shaped, and the guideways in both lids being female,vee shaped, and concave. Each lid can slide into either end of the base, until the lids reach a point where the lid outer end pieces come into contact with the base edge end pieces, at these positions the lids are fully closed and underneath the jig saw base and out of arms way. If the user wishes to use the lids for constructing parts of the jig saw on,this can be done by partially opening the lids 29,until the correct amount of lid surface or pressure pad 30,has been exposed,and to a position that suits the user. When the user wishes to pack away or close the holder,the puzzle pieces can be slid onto the base working surface, leaving the lids clear of pieces. The lids can then be fitted back onto the top of the jig saw base, and trapping the puzzle pieces between the lids and the base-In fig 21 onelid has been closed onto the base, covering half the base working surface.

The vee guides on the lids are more springy than the base vee guides, thus enabling the lid vees to slide over the base vees,and forming interlocking fastening joints or connections, between the lids and base when the holder is in the closed position, This arrangement enables sufficient down pressure to be applied from the lid pressure pad 30,onto the puzzle pieces that are resting on the jig saw base and ensuring a secure releasable, fastening arrangement between the lids and the base.

The base and lid end pieces include different combinations of prongs and cavities located inside one another, these prongs and cavities serve as stops to prevent the jig saw lids from sliding sideways and off the base when the holder is closed. The lid end pieces can also be seperate from the base, and just but up to the inside or outer edge of the base pieces, also to serve as a stop.

Reffering to the drawing fig 1,a perspective view of a type 4 base is shown. The base comprises of three board pieces, and a top and bottom edge piece, the top piece 6, having a female dovetail joint that extends the full length of the piece. and the bottom piece 3,having a male dovetail joint that also extends to the full length of the piece. All three board sections have male and femail dovetail joints, and the five pieces can be fitted next to the appropriate matching piece by sliding them in a lateral direction with all the female and male joints interlocked in their appropriate positions. When all the sections have been correctly fitted to each other, the end pieces or beading can be fixed in the finished positions.
The type 5 lids,fig 7,have the same type of construction as the type 4 base, again using dovetail joints, and again having top and bottom edge pieces. Indicator 7, figs 1,2,3 9 and 5 is the female dovetail joint contact shoulder, and comes into contact with 8 after the base pieces are assembled together and the same applies when the lid pieces are assembled together, also when the edge piece 3 is fitted to the base piece.
Surfaces 7,and 8 are a slide fit, enabling lateral movement between the base pieces themselves, or the lid pieces themselves. Indicator 8. is the male dovetail contact shoulder and comes into contact with 7,when the base pieces are assembled together, and when the lid pieces are assembled together,indicator 8,is shown in figs 1,2,3,5,6 and 7 8 and 7 are a slide fit, enabling lateral movement between the base pieces themselves or the lid pieces themselves.
Indicator 9,fig 7,shows the two jig saw holder lids in the closed position, and they cover the whole of the jig saw board and with each lid covering half of the total area of the base, and trapping the puzzle pieces between the lids and the jig saw construction surface of the base. The lids are fastened ~o the base by using vee shaped male and female location joints, that are releasable. The female joint vee shaped surfaces have considerable give in their structure,allowing the female vee to afford a spring action releasable fastening. The male vees are of a more solid construction, and accomodate the female vees when the holder is closed.A secure connection between lids and base is ensured when the male vees of the jig saw base are interlocked with the female vees of the lid.
Indicator l0.fig 7,are the jig saw lid pieces,and each lid asseembly has three of these,and they are joined together by lateraly adjustable dovetail joints or guideways.
An alternatively shaped guideway for the parts that incorporate the dovetail guideways,would be a mortice and tennon joint or guideway as shown in fig 8,9 and l0,which would allow the base, lid, and edge pieces to be assembled SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) together without having to slide them lateraly.

When the lid and base pieces are assembledtogether,the lateral sliding axis of the boards are parrallel,and the piec ces adjacent to each other. when the boards are in their fitted positions, the central axis of the boards will be parrallel to each other.
The tennon prong could be curved and the mortice cavity could be curved to match,allowing the mortice and tennon to fit together following a radial vertical path.

SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) Description Model C Holder Referring to the drawing,the jig saw holder comprises a vaccuum formed jig saw base 37, and two vacuum formed detachable plastic lids,38.The base includes eight jig saw -piece storage pockets 3,and in fig 16 both lids are shown to have been removed from the top of the base, and relocated along the underside of the base, by using slideways or guideways.
The guideways on the ba'seare,male vee shaped guides,and the corresponding guideways on the lids are, female and vee shaped.
Each lid can slide over the end of the base, and along the base until the lids reach a point where the lid end guard 39,comes into contact with the outer edge of the jig saw base. At these positions the lids are fully closed,and underneath the jig saw base,and are conveniently tucked away until needed.If the user wishes to use the lids for constructing parts of thejig saw on,this can be done by partially opening the lids,until the correct amount of lid surface 2l,has been exposed,that is suitable for the users purposes.The jig saw pieces can be placed and constructed on the lid pressure pads 2l.When the user wishes to pack away or close the holder, the puzzle pieces can, be slid from the lids and onto the base working surface 2,or placed into the base storage pockets,3,and the lids 38, fitted back onto the top of the base, trapping the puzzle pieces between the lids and the base. In fig l5,one lid has been closed onto the base, and covers half the base working surface.
The lids are fixed onto the base by engaging the vee shaped guideways on the lids and base,but the guideways in this instance are used as spring clip or spring edge devices. The male vee shaped edge of the base being solid, and the female vee edge of the lid having a spring action. This mechanism enables the lids to be pressed and not slid into position, when closing the holder.The jig saw base on this model is made from plastic.

When the lids 38,are closed onto the base 7, the top base tray secondary angles, locate into 26 which are the corresponding female cavities in both lids.The location of these angles or cores and cavities provide stops so that the lid cannot slide or move when the holder is closed or packed away.
20,the lid outer guard, and 39 the lid end guard are combined to form a guard to protect the jig saw base perimeter, when the holder is closed. The guards also position the lids relative to the base,and the end guard 39 is used as a lid stop, and the lid outer guards are used as guideways.
When assembling the two lids, the top tray l4,is pressed into the bottom lid tray 35,this produces a pressurised air pocket and creates a bowed surface on 25,the top iid tray print surface, and a bowed surface on 2l, the bottom lid tray pressure pad. The bowed surface of the pressure pad combined with the air pressure resistance inside the lid is usefull when trapping the puzzle pieces onto the working surface of the base when the holder is closed.
When the top lid tray 14 is located inside the bottom lid tray 35,and adhesive is used to stick the two together,a strong light assembly is created.The adhesive,when used between the vertical faces of the two trays,adds strength to the lid assemblies as well as stiffnes.This method is also used when-assembling the top and bottom jig saw board base trays together.
Slots 24,in the bottom base tray 34,and top base tray h are used to weaken the vee angle edges of the two trays, so that, the edges can fit over one another when the two are assembled.

Referring to the drawing the puzzle holder comprises a puzzle construction base 3 and 17 Fig 5 and Fig 8,and two lids 1 and 2 Fig l,or the two lids 6 and 7 Fig 4.The lids are releasably secured to the base by the Velcro patches 5 and 18, Fig 2 and Fig 10.
To close the puzzle holder and trap the jig saw puzzle pieces onto the construction surface 4,the lids 1 and 2 or 6 and 7 are placed side by side in the base cavity l9.The lids will fasten to the base by linking Velcro patches 5 which are fastened to the base piece 3,with Velcro patches 18 that are located on the lids. Fig 1 shows an illustration of the closed puzzle holder.The base is made from a top piece 3 Fig 3 and a bottom piece 17 Fig S.There are three types of lid,type 1 Fig l0,type 2 Fig 11 and type 3 Fig 12.A11 three types of lids comprise a top and bottom piece.The lids and base are constructed in the same way, and by using two trays with their perimeters being at right angles to their working surfaces.The trays are inverted and one is placed inside its corresponding larger member or piece, the trays are then stuck together by adhesive.The adhesive has a stiffening and strengthening effect on the completed unit.To construct the base as shown ill FigB,thetop tray 3 is placed over the bottom tray l7,and the adhesive which lies between the contact faces 12 and 20 and around the perimeter edges holds or secures the top and bottom pieces firmly together.To construct the lid asembly Fig 9 and 10 the same process is repeated, the top tray 6 is placed over the bottom tray 13 and the adhesive which lies between the contact faces 9 and 21 and both the tray perimeter edges, secures the two lid pieces together. To construct thelids Fig ll,again the top tray 6 is placed over the bottom tray 13, SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 25 PCT/GB98/03253 but the contact faces 9 and 21 do not come together but have a cushion of air between them,the cushion of air will be slightly pressurised and force the bottom tray puzzle contact face face 14 to become convex. the convex shape will facilitate the trapping of the puzzle pieces 15 onto the base construction surface 4.The convex shape will adjust to the correct shape or configiurationneeded for trapping the pieces l5,as the cushion of air enables the lid member 13 to become compressible.To construct the lid,type 3 Fig l2,again one tray piece is placed inside the other,but there are no strengthening ribs or support pads, but just a cushion of air.
Both lids have finger location recesses 8 Fig l,which are used to lift the lids from location cavity l9.The adhesive that bonds the lid inner and outer trays together,is also used to bond the base inner and outer trays together, and the bonding prevents slip or movement between the lid trays and the base trays.The slip or movement prevention creates stiffnes and strength in the puzzle holder members.

Description Model E Holder Referring to the drawing, the jig saw holder comprises, a wooden jig saw base l,six wooden jig saw base edge pieces, 2,two detachable stretch cloth lids 4 and 5.elasticated chord or rubber releasable fastenings b and 7,two pairs of fastening slots 8,with each of the four slots being positioned slightly to the side of the centre of the top and bottom edges of the jig saw base. There is also four fastener securing spheres or bobbles l0,that anchor the lids to the base.
The elasticated chord or rubber strip fastenings 6 and 7 are secured to the lids 4 and S by threading them through the chord securing hem 9.To facilitate trapping the puzzle pieces between the lids and the base, the fasteners 6 are located over the four corners of the base, and fasteners 7, are located into slots B.The anchor sphere or bobble l0,secures the fastenings 7,and this is achieved by having the diameter of the sphere l0,considerably larger than the width of the slot or slots 8, enabling the sphere to be secured on the underside of the base, this in turn enables the stretch cloth lids to lie flat on the jig saw base, and covering the jig saw pieces.

Referring to the drawing the puzzle holder cornprises,a jig saw base l,two lids 2, that are releasably secured to the base, for example velcro patches 4.The velcro providing an adjustable gap between the puzzle piece contact faces of the lids and base.
To trap the individual puzzle pieces 5 fig 4, and the partly assembled jig saw puzzle between the base piece l4,fig l and the lid pieces l3,fig 2, the lids 2, are laid onto the puzzle pieces 5. When the lids 2, are laid in the closed position, with contact faces 8, lightly pressing onto the jig saw pieces 5, the velcro patches ll,fig 4, that are attached to the lids 2,pieces l3,wi11 locate with the velcro patches l2,that are attached to the base l,piece l4,giving a secure fastening between the lids 2, and the base l and trapping the puzzle pieces 5,securely between contact faces 8 and 9,fig 4.
The Velcro fastening arrangement will allow partial seperation of the lid velcro fastenings ll,from the base velcro fastening l2.This variable partial seperation wil provide an automatic adjustment of gap 6,fig 4,with gap 6, accomodating the various jig saw puzzle thicknesses.If the jig saw puzzle being constructed is beyond a certain thickness,then the velcro fastening will no longer be effective,or attached to each other,sufficiently enough to afford pressure between contact faces S and the jig saw piecf,~
5,and contact faces 9,and jig saw pieces 5.
The velcro securing or fastening faces 3 and 4 fig 3, are set below or are on a lower surface level than jig saw puzzle contact faces 8 and 9 fig 4.This feature enables the velcro on the lids to fasten with the velcro on the base, and allow the contact faces 8 and 9,to come together sufficiently to trap the jig saw puzzle pieces 5,between faces 8 and 9.
If the sunken securing faces 3, and 4 fig 3 were not present, and the velcro was fixed onto contact faces 8 and 9,the gap SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 29 PCT/GB98/03253 between contact faces 8 and 9would be so large that the jig saw pieces would not be sufficiently trapped between the faces 8 and 9.
The base l,fig l,comprises of two sheets of corrugated or fluted cardboard, l4 and l5,with the cardboard being covered with stretchable or non stretchable cloth. The flutes inside the cardboard top piece l4,fig l,lay at right angles to the flutes inside the bottom piece l5,fig 6.The two pieces are laminated or stuck together to give the board or jig saw base strength and stiffness.Both of the lids 2,fig 2,comprise of top and bottom cross fluted cardboard sheets,that are laminated or stuck together,and can also be covered in stretchable or non stretchable cloth. Fig 6, shows the base l,without the cloth covering.The corrugated sheets l4,and 15 are fully exposed and illustrate the fluting in the piece 15, is at right angles to the fluting in the base piece l4.The velcro recesses 4, fig 6, of which there are 8, are formed by stapling the piece l4,to piece l5,this s~tapl.ing forms a recess on top of piece l4,the recess then being used to accomodate the adhesive for the cloth to stick to and to hold the velcro patch.The adhesive being between the cloth and cardboard,and the velcro being stuck on top of the cloth and in position suitable to connect with the opposing velcro on the lid.
There are two staples l6,fig 6,in each of the 8 recesses 3, fig 3,and in each of the 8 recesses 4,fig 6.This amount of staples should be sufficient to create enough of a depression to accomodate the velcro and the cloth.l0,fig 5, is a securing face that extends the full perimeter of the base or lids,and is incorporated to support or hold the velcro strips, which can be used instead of velcro patches.
The surface l0,fig 5,is below or on a lower level than the jig saw construction face 9, fig S.When constructing the lids and base the cloth can be held by adhesive between the top piece l4,of the base, and the bottom piece of the base l5,and this method is also used on the lids, top and bottom pieces l3,and 7. In fig 7, the jig saw base, pieces 14 and l5,are completely covered by cloth l7,on the top and bottom SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 3~ PCT/GB98/03253 surfaces of the board,with the cloth l7,also covering the two base edges. The cloth l7,is made in one continuous circumference that surrounds the whole of the base circumference in one direction. The base ends are covered _in cloth when the cloth is stretched over the ends,and the top and bottom cloth edges stitched together.The cloth is manufactured in tubular form to facilitate the base construction and assembly. The cloth l7,can be stretchable or non stretchable.
Fig 8,shows a bottom view of a jig saw holder with the two lids resting freely,without the fastenings,and on top of the jig saw puzzle pieces 5,this type of holder incorporates slop ing perimeters 18 on the lids and base. The sloping perimeters 18 are used to accomodate the velcro patches or velcro strip fastenings.The sloping faces l8,enable the velcro to be fastened to tree lids and base in position 19, and on a lower level than the jig saw puzzle contact faces on the lids and base.This fastening arrangement allows the lids and base to come close enough together to trap the thin puzzle pieces 5.
Another Velcro fastening arrangement can be used by stapling the bottom portion of Velcro 20 Fig 23 inside the cavity 23, the top portion of the Velcro 22 then overlaps the bottom 20,curves round the edge 26 and locates into cavity 24, the cavity 24 can be absent and the Velcro can just be trapped between the top and bottom base pieces.Portion 21 of the Velcro is stapled to the base.
Fig l2.is a perspective view, showing how the velcro is fitted to the base.
The uppermost surface of the Velcro 27 ~s raised above the base puzzle construction surface to facilitate the fastening between the Velcro top and bottom pieces,and to provide an adjustable trapping mechanism for the puzzle pieces.
The two shets of cardboard that are laminated and bonded together, which make up the puzzle holder base or lids, have a fluted interior, the fluting on the top board needs to cross the fluting in the bottom board,the fluting in one of the SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 31 PCT/GB98/03253 members needs to overlie the fluting in the adjacent rnemDer.90 degrees cross angle would give maximum strength to the base but a lesser angle would still give sufficient strength and stiffness to the members that would make up the holder lids or base.
To complete the description some of the following details are common to several holders.
Model A and Model B incorporate two sliding lids,the lids are used for trapping the puzzle pieces to the base, also slide underneath the base to whatever setting the user requires.
the lids are slid under the base from each end until they are out of arms way. Model C and Model D incorporate an air pressure pad and this pad Is used to trap the puzzle pieces onto the base,the air pocket lies between the top member of the lid and the bottom member of the lid.The air pressure forces the bottom member outwards and creates a convex puzzle contact surface or pressure pad. Model A has interlocking end pieces. The pieces fit onto ttie ends of the base and lids,and when the holder is closed the pieces or strips interlock with each other.
The interlocking action holds the lids in place on the holder base. and stop them from sliding outwards and off the base ends.
ModeIAincorporates a spring loaded base end piece. The spring loaded plunger fits into a channel that is an integral part of the the end piece or strip,and the plunger acts as a stop to prevent the puzzle pieces from sliding off the base.When the lids are in the closed position the plunger is pushed downwards into the end piece channel.Mode1 C and Model D comprise of several trays that are fitted together,these trays make up the base and lids.The lids consist of two trays per lld,and the base consists of two trays.Al1 the trays have edges that surround the whole of the tray perirneter,the edges can be at right angles to the surface of the tray or at an angle to the tray surface. To make the base, two trays are fitted together by locating the smaller tray inside the larger tray. To do this the top edge of the smaller trays perimeter is inserted inside the perimeter wall of the larger tray,the top edge of SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 32 PCT/GB98/03253 smaller trays perimeter will touch the inside surface of the larger trays working surface.The larger fiat surfaces of the trays wil be seperated by a distance equal to the height of the inside of the perimeter wall of the smaller tray.
Adhesive ~s located between the large and small trays perimeter and between the contact points of the support members and the adjoining member or the back of the construction surface of the base. The adhesive creates a stiffening or strengthening effect between the base pieces. The same process is repeated when assembling the lids. Model C and Model D incorporate integral ribs. These ribs are used to strengthen and stiffen the base assemblies.Mode1 E includes lids that are made from stretchable cloth or other stretchable material. The material is stretched over the jig saw pieces and fastened to the base board.
The stretched cloth then affords pressure onto the puzzle piece$
trapping them onto the base board. Model E incorporates elasticated or other stretchable material such as rubber to fasten round the edges of the stretchable lids. This stretchable edging is used for releasably fastening the lids to the base.
Model E has securing slots in the base board.These slots are used for locating the eiasticated lid ridges onto the base board,the locating of the !.id ridges secures the lids to the base. Models C and Models D incorporate the use of adhesive, the adhesive strengthens and stiffens the lids and base.
Models C and D Incorporate support pads that are used to support the jig saw puzzle construction member,the pads are an integral part of the base bottom member.Adhesive is used to secure the suport pads to the top member of the base.
Models C and D Incorporate weakening slots,the slots are cutt across the perimeter walls of the bottom base piece, these slotslots weaken the wall structure, which enables the perimeter walls to locate more easily inside the top tray perimeter walls.
Model A Incorporates two end pieces on the base,there is an integral hinge between the top half and bottom halt of the two end pieces or strips. When the holder is closed the top half of the end piece folds over allowing the lid to rest on the puzzle pieces.When the holder is open the top half of the end SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) _ WO 99/22828 33 PCT/GB98/03253 piece is raised,creating a shoulder or stop to prevent the puzzle piece from sliding off the base.In Model E bobbles or pieces are used as a means to hold or fasten the lids to the base, the bobbles are located under the base slots, and upward pressure applied to the back of the base board secures the fastening. In Model F an alternative fastening for the Velcro would would be to sandwich the Velcro between the top and bottom pieces of the base, this method will hold the Velcro firmly to the base,a cavity can be put into the bottom piece of the base to hold the Velcro, or the Velcro can be just trapped between the two.The Velcro fastening portion can overlap the Velcro that is stapled to the base board, this method hides the staples from view. Model F has a cloth cover, the cover surrounds the holder base,and is made from one piece of cloth,or tubing,whose circumference is made from a piece of material that has a continuouly structured form.
The support pads in Models B and D can be of varying heights to enable a curved or angled face to be formed on the lid, puzzle contact faces.
The feature of one tray located inside another tray,and the feature of support pads together with the adhesive bonding, can be used to construct other items or components for instance in the motor car industry, furniture, drawing boards and office equipment, machinery parts, the toy industry, inerior decor, exterior decor, boxes, packaging, and garden equipment.
plus boat manufacture, hobby industry, leisure equipment,chasis,.
game equipment, sports equipment, aeronautical industry, camping equipment.
To strengthen the lid and base members the two cardboard laminated pieces in each member are cross fluted, the flutes being at ninety degrees to each other, or less.
The lid and base members can be covered in a tubular cloth skin, the tubular cloth skin, provides a continuously structured covering, that covers the faces and edges of the base and lids.
Two ends of the tubular sock are open, these can be stitched or glued. The tubular cloth is shown in Fig 7,17.
SUBSTITUTE SHEET (RULE 26) The variable gap thickness between the lids and base are governed, by the depth that the Velcro barbs ll,penetrate into the mating or corresponding loops l2,with the variable gap thickness 6,accomodating varying sizes of jig saw puzzle pieces.

Claims (39)

1.A jig saw puzzle holder having cavities, pockets or recesses that are incorporated in the lids and base, the bottom or base of these areas are used to support the velcro,patch or strip fasteners, the fasteners are used to secure the lids to the base.
2.A jig saw puzzle holder having velcro fastenings that are secured to the base and lids on surfaces,that are angular in relation to the flat plane of the jig saw construction surface.
3.A jig saw puzzle holder having Velcro contact or securing surfaces, that are set deeper into the lid and base members, than are the jig saw puzzle construction surfaces on these members.
4.A jig saw puzzle holder where the base and lid structures comprise of trays that are fitted together, with the perimeter edges of the larger trays overlapping the perimeter edges of the corresponding or mating smaller trays,the lids include a top and bottom tray, and the base comprises of a top and bottom tray.
5.A jig saw puzzle holder where the lid pressure pad, that traps the puzzle pieces onto the base board,is an integral part of the lid body, or lid main structure.
6.A jig saw puzzle holder having two detachable lids, these being releasably secured, to the jig saw base
7.A jig saw puzzle holder having two lids adapted to slide along the underside of the base board, from both ends.
8.A jig saw puzzle holder as claimed in claim 7 wherein guide means are provided on the base cooperable with the lids, these being utilised to control the sliding movement of the lids inside the base.
9.A jig saw puzzle holder comprising of lids and a base, that include,a vee shaped male, or female form slideway,that is used for locating and holding the lids and base together.
10.A jig saw puzzle holder where the pressure pad is supported and stiffened by air pressure that exists, between the pressure pad inside face and the inside face of the back of the lid.
11.A jig saw puzzle holder where the pressure pad, puzzle piece contact face is bowed or curved.
12.A jig saw puzzle holder incorporating fastening blades, the blades utilise a spring action, the spring action providing a releasable fastening mechanism on the lids.
13.A jig saw puzzle holder incorporating weakening slots, these slots create a weakening effect on the spring fastening mechanism.
14.A jig saw puzzle holder having lids with an internal structure comprising of angular ribs,the ribs being flexible in angular position, which allows height adjustment of the pressure pad puzzle piece contact surface.
15.A jig saw puzzle holder having support pads in the lids and in the base,the base pads are used to support the jig saw construction surface member,the lid support pads are used to support the lid pressure pad member.
16.A jig saw puzzle holder having lids that incorporate an integral rim section, on base and lid assembly, this section overlaps the base perimeter, providing a base edge guard.
17.A jig saw puzzle holder where the base and lid end pieces interlock together and prevent sideways movement of the lids across the base.
18.A jig saw holder having a blade that is adjustable for height the adjustment is afforded by having a compressible support piece such as a spring or sponge.
19.A jig saw holder where the structural features of each of the two jig saw base members are integral,the top half of the base comprises of a tray that includes,a jig saw puzzle construction surface member, jig saw puzzle piece retaining cavity walls,a perimeter top surface and the perimeter edges that overlap the base bottom tray edges.
20.The integral features of the base bottom tray are the perimeter edges that fit inside the base top tray perimeter edges,the support pads and the bottom surface perimeter and ribs.
21.A jig saw puzzle holder that incorporates a stretchable cloth cover. which is part of the lid and base structures.
22.A jig saw puzzle holder lids or base, made or constructed, by using two flat boards or pieces for each of the two lids, and two flat boards for the base, the two boards of each member can be laminated and secured to each other by adhesive, or double sided sticky tape.

24.A jigsaw puzzle holder that incorporates two, hinged, base end pieces,the upper portion of the end pieces are joined to the lower portion via a hinge, with the upper portion being lowered when the lids are attached to the base, and raised when the puzzle is being constructed, with the raised portion preventing the puzzle pieces from sliding off the base.

36.A jig saw holder having lid and base members that are covered in a tubular, cloth or stretch cloth skin, this skin provides a continuously structured cover,that encircles two flat faces and two edges of its corresponding member.
37.A jig saw holder having Velcro fastenings where the depth of penetration of the Velcro barbs into the Velcro loops provides variable height adjustment for the lids,with the height adjustment allowing various thicknesses of puzzle pieces to be trapped onto the construction surface of the base.
38.A jig saw holder having fastening strips that are partly trapped, secured or located between the laminated lid or base members.
39.A jig saw holder having lid and base members with their outer coverings being partly trapped, secured or located between the laminated lid or base members.
