Abstract

Portable machine for gas pressure butt-welding of oil well strings and other steel bars in the field. The machine uses a screw and a high torque tool to develop the pressure necessary for welding, instead of a hydraulic system as most similar machines do, thus making the machine lighter and cheaper and lowering its maintenance requirements. The machine also incorporates a means of adjusting the concentricity of two welded rods of different diameters, a saw for cutting the ends of the rods to be welded, and a simple double-hinged support for the burner.
