Abstract
"In a household aid for the covering of food on a plate to protect from a splattering mess created from the heating of food in a mic-rowave oven. In this invention, an absorbent paper towel material is doubled and cut in a rounded shape to encase an average size plate. The rounded shape is, not only, to acquire the plate's shape but, also, to turn freely on the rotating table of a micro-wave. The doubled or two-sided paper towel is joined on three sides to form a gloved-like pocket to conveniently enclose a dish of food. This plate covering is convenient to use as it takes seconds to rip a piece from it's roll, slide a plate of food in it and then place in a microwave. The two-sided paper towel then holds secure to prevent heated food from splattering and messing the inside of a microwave oven.
Description
page 3 This invention relates to a household or kitchen item for covering a bowl or plate of food before placing into a microwave.
It is common in covering food for the heating or cooking process with a microwave to use a simple piece of paper towel. It is, of course, necessary that the covering stops heated food from splat-tering a mess on the inside walls of the microwave. A covering of this type is, however, inefficient in a couple of ways. The com-mon paper towel when on a plate in a running microwave will not, always, stay in place. Many times, the bursting food being heated will by-pass the loose ends anal corners of the towel. It is, moreover, unsatisfactory for rotating on the microwave's turn-table as the square corners catch the walls and door and may spiral partly or entirely off the food. To over-come these hin-drances, the corners o.f the towel may be wrapped under the weight of the plate, however, this proves awkward as the towel's corners are to short to stay in place. Food-splattered microwaves area not only, an annoyance to clean but, also, has proven to be an unsafe fire hazard.
I have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by providing a two-sided paper towel sealed on three sides. Such a design allows for a firm fit that wi7.l hold in place upon most food bursts. Sliding a dish into this "pocket-like" covering is very convenient as it is quick, taking little effort to "rip" (from it's roll), "slip" (the plate into), and "sli.de" (the covered food into the microwave). The rounded corners resembling a cir-cular shape, rotates smoothly as it clears the walls of the mic-rowave.
page 5 In drawings which illustrate embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is a top view of a single paper towel plate cover for the microwave, Figure 2 .Ls an elevation of several plate cover-ings on a roll.
The household item illustrated has a square shape with rounded corners and is approximately twelve inches in length and width.
The four sides A, B, C, <3nd D ,are of equal lengths, however, this may vary as long as it e<~sily ,accommodates an average size plate of food. This double-sided paper towel has attached sides A, B, and D (top sheet to bottom sheet). Whereas, side C is unattached and is the only open side. Point E is the place in which the open-ing of side C ends and then re.rnains attached for sides A, B, and D.
The opening F illustrates the two sides as apart.
Figure 2 shows many sheets or covers on a rol:L. The perforated connection G is a temporary attachment of plate cover to plate cover which is ripped or pulled apart as a single cover is needed.
page 6 This inventive idea may be used, also, for covering food in any microwaveable dish-like object for cooking or heating. This paper towel plate cover can ,also, be used for the covering of food not needing a plate or dish of any kind (ie. pizza, sand-wich, hot dogs, etc.). Another use of this plate cover is for the encasing and protection of food from dusts and germs such as pastries and vegetables set out on tables, cupboards, or shelves.
7.'his invention can be used for the packing of breakable or scratch-able items when moving or shipping from one place to another.
7.'his invention can be packaged differently either on a roll or ~:eperately stacked in a plastic, paper, or cardboard wrapping or box-like container.
