Abstract

There is provided a pouring device which may be used in connection with a container having a neck portion with a generally circular pouring outlet, the device comprising a relatively thin hydrophobic sheet of material with at least one concave recess formed in the perimeter of the device. The device may have any desired overall configuration.

Description

DRIP LESS WINE POURER
The device allows the user to pour liquid from a bottle or container without dripping, for example wine from a wine bottle, oil from a domestic bottle of oil, or from any other container.
It is always very unpleasant to soil or stain clothes, tablecloths or a work place area when pouring a liquid as it is sometimes hard to clean when a spillage occurs.
Most commonly used containers are made on a production line and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain an optimal result on all facets of the manufacturing process at a reasonable price.
It would be very expensive for companies manufacturing containers to design and produce a bottleneck with the characteristics and the quality of a pouring device. The thinness of the device and precision in the cut-out of the edges are almost impossible on standard production lines.
This is why we have added an external element to the container in order to achieve the expected result.
The device is made of a very thin, flexible and liquid resistant material.
Once rolled in a tubular form and inserted in the bottleneck, the device becomes a pouring lip.
It remains tightly inserted in the bottleneck by engaging the inside of the container opening or bottleneck as the materiel tries to return to its original flat form.
The tube also comprises a concave recess which allows the liquid to flow evenly once it is poured. The thinness of the material along with the type of edge produced in the cut-out allows the liquid to cleanly stop flowing as soon as the user returns the bottle in its upright position.

The overall shape of the device or material does not matter as long as the concave recess is present.
An embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a top view of the device with recess allowing easy pouring;
Figure 2 shows the device in Figure 1 in the form of a tubular roll showing positioning of recess part;
Figure 3 shows the device inserted in the bottle, with the proper positioning of the recess part;
Figure 4 provides a side view of the edge of the device after cut-out of material;
Figure 5 shows a perspective view of the device while liquid is being poured and function of the recess part, allowing the user to totally control the pouring of the liquid;
Figure 6 shows a perspective view of the device stopping a drip when bottle or container is returned to its upright position;
Figures 7 and 8 show a top view of the device inserted in various sized containers;
Figure 9 shows different sizes and shape of the pouring device, with possible recess.
The invention relates to a device generally designated by reference numeral 10 that allows pouring of a liquid without any drips that would otherwise fall or slide against the outside of the bottle or container when the user pours the liquid from the bottle or container, for example pouring wine from a wine bottle or oil from a domestic bottle of oil.
The drip catcher is made of a very thin and flexible hydrophobic material and may be of different shapes. It preferably is of a thickness of not less than 0.5 mm and not more than 1.5 mm and has a surface of not more than 64 square millimeters.
The material, originally flat, must be rolled onto itself as shown in Figure 2 and inserted in a round cavity to allow the device to take the form of a tube.
Once rolled in a tube shape, the device 10 is inserted in the bottleneck 16 of the bottle or container, as shown in Figure 3, and it becomes a pouring lip. When inserted in the bottleneck, the material while trying to return to its original shape, will remain in place by exerting pressure on the inner walls of the bottleneck 16 as seen in Figures 7 and 8.
Because of this pressure on the inner walls of the bottleneck 16, the liquid will not be able to slip in between the device and the bottleneck. In this matter, the liquid is never in contact with the exterior wall of the bottle or container thus preventing any contamination.
The tube is comprised, unlike any other pouring lip, of a concave recess 14 which guides the liquid when it is being poured. It is this concave recess 14 that allows the user to precisely control the flow of the liquid as it is being poured and thus attain the desired results.
The thinness of the material along with the concave recess 14 will totally prevent dripping after the user has lifted the bottle or container in its upright position, thus allowing the ease of pouring without any drips such as those indicated by reference numeral 18.
The pouring lip is formed with a sharp edge on outer edge 12 and a microscopic lip on the contour of the edge slightly obtained by the cutting of the recess, thus obtaining optimal stoppage of any drips.
The overall shape of the device does not make a difference in its efficiency as may be seen in Figure 9 illustrating some of the possible configurations.
It will be understood that the above described embodiments are for purposes of illustration only and that changes and modifications may be made thereto.

Claims (4)

1. A device for use with a container having a neck portion and a generally circular pouring aperture, the device comprising a flexible thin sheet of material which is hydrophobic, the sheet of material having a concave recess formed in the perimeter of the device.
2. The improvement of Claim 1 wherein said device has a thickness of between mm and 1.5 mm.
3. The device of Claim 2 wherein said device has a surface area of less than 64 square millimeters.
4. A method of pouring liquid from a container to substantially eliminate dripping, the method comprising the steps of providing a device formed of a thin hydrophobic flexible material and having a concave recess formed in the perimeter thereof, rolling said device to have a diameter less than the diameter of the neck of a container, inserting said device into the neck of the container and allowing it to expand outwardly, and positioning said device such that said concave recess is positioned to be the pouring edge.
