Description
Un tel procédé est relativement ARTICLE DECORATED BY A LASER BEAM AND METHOD
FOR THE DECORATION OF SUCH AN ITEM
The present invention relates to a decorated article, in particular a stopper such commonly used to equip containers for perfumes or other cosmetic products. The invention also relates to a method for producing a decoration on a head; article. The decor may include a logo, of a trademark, design, or any other inscription or sign distinctive.
In the field of cosmetics, in particular for the packaging of perfumes or eau de toilette, decorated caps are used, for example gold or chrome over their entire outer surface, or only on a part, so as to make a decoration or a drawing appear.
One of the techniques used for the realization of such a decoration or drawing, consists to metallize the plastic part, protecting, in particular with a varnish, the parts which must not be metallized, which varnish is then eventually eliminated.
According to another manufacturing technique, the plastic part that one wants to metallize is obtained by molding two plastic materials, compatible with each other, one of them being metallizable, the other does not being not. This technique however encounters great practical difficulties in Implementation. In addition, it is expensive, in particular as regards the construction of the molds, and the results obtained are not entirely satisfactory, in that it is difficult to obtain demarcation lines crisp junction of the two plastics. In addition, it offers little room for maneuver in the choice of decor that can be achieved.
According to patent application FR-A-2 751 265, a method is described in which the part is formed from a metallizable material, such as ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), PP (Polypropylene), POM (Polyoxymethylene), or charged polyester. On the piece is overmolded a sheet of a non-material the metallizable such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PC (polycarbonate).
Then, by electroplating, a metal coating is deposited on the parts of the part not covered by said sheet. Such a process is relatively
2 complicated and expensive to implement. Furthermore, as for the technique described above, the possibilities are limited with regard to the decorations which to be realized.
Apart from the methods mentioned above, there are many other methods of decor that differ depending on the material used. Regarding materials plastics, we can cite the processes by screen printing, pad printing, jet ink, by hot transfer or by molding. The decor can also be consisting of a label stuck on the piece to decorate.
The laser is a special form of digitally controlled marking. The laser marking is particularly advantageous, in particular because of its cleanliness, recyclability of the marked part, inalterability of registration, the flexibility it offers, in particular in the choice of decor and its customization, the resolution it allows, and also because of its economic character to implement. In addition, the laser allows for a decor at a distance, i.e. without putting the object in physical contact decorate with a printing member.
In patent application FR-A-2 778 919, a method of marking is described.
or etching by means of a laser, a part formed from a polymer charged with mineral pigments coated with a layer of chitin or derivatives of chitin. A
Phone process has a number of limitations, particularly with regard to color and at the aspect that can be obtained for the decor.
It is therefore one of the objects of the invention to produce a part bearing a unalterable decor, and which is simple and economical to produce.
It is another object of the invention to produce a part on which may be affixed a decoration, regardless of the geometry of the room to be decorated.
It is yet another object to carry out a method of marking a article of thermoplastic material, in particular of a stopper for a bottle, and which is simple and economical to implement.
According to the invention, these objects are achieved by producing an article formed from from a support obtained by molding a metallizable material by electrodeposition, said support being on at least part of its surface, covered with a first metallic coating, formed by the superposition of n (n> _ 2) layers of metal, and defining at least part of a decoration pattern, said support being covered, on the surface corresponding to said decoration pattern, a second coating metallic formed of at most n - 1 layers of metal, one metallic layer exterior of said first metallic coating being of color and / or appearance different from the color and / or appearance of an outer metallic layer of second metallic coating, so as to make said pattern visible decoration.
The decoration motif can consist of a text, a brand commercial, a logo, a design, or any other motif. The metallic surface of the pattern of decoration, in combination with the metallic surface which delimits it, offers of aesthetic characteristics unmatched so far. The combinations of contrasts and colors that can be obtained feels multiple, simply by playing on the choice and arrangement of the layers of metal forming respectively the first and second metallic coatings.
The metallization of the support is done by electrodeposition or electroplating in the case where the support is made of plastic material. The medium from which is form the article is obtained by molding a metallizable material by plating or electroplating. Examples include zamak, ABS
(Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), PP (polypropylene), POM (polyoxymethylene), or a polyester loaded.
The outer layer of the first metallic coating may be formed of a first metal, chosen in particular from chromium, silver, gold, or zinc, the outer layer of the second metal coating which may be
a) par électrodéposition ou galvanoplastie, déposer sur au moins une partie dudit support, un revêtement formé de la superposition d'au moins deux couches de métal dont une couche extérieure est formée d'un premier métal ;
Une telle technologie de décor au laser peut être mise en oeuvre dans des installations 4 second metal, distinct from the first, chosen in particular from chromium, nickel, silver, gold, zinc, or copper, or an alloy such as bronze. .
The article obtained according to the invention can be a packaging article, in particular a case, a bottle or a jar, or an accessory associated with such a packaging article, in particular a stopper.
Preferably, said article forms a cap for a container intended especially the packaging of a cosmetic product, said cap being formed of a skirt lateral, in particular cylindrical, one end of which is closed by a wall transverse, said decoration pattern being formed on the transverse wall and or on the side skirt.
According to another aspect of the invention, a method is also carried out for the realization of a decoration pattern on an article formed from a support obtained from molding a metallizable material by electrodeposition or electroplating, said process consisting in:
a) by electrodeposition or electroplating, deposit on at least part of said support, a coating formed by the superposition of at least two layers of metal, an outer layer of which is formed from a first metal;
b) on the surface corresponding to said decoration pattern, eliminate by means a laser, at least said outer layer of the coating, so as to reveal on said surface, a layer formed of a second metal, of color and / or different from the first.
Preferably, the laser used is a YAG type laser. This last one is preferable due to its short wavelength (1.06 trm), well absorbed by the mostly non-metallic materials, especially by materials thermoplastics, which are advantageously used according to the invention.
The advantages of the method according to the invention are multiple. The marking is fast (the cycle time, depending on the decor and the part, can be the order seconds). The resolution of the image produced is of good quality (of in the order of a few pm). In addition, it is possible to decorate surfaces of profile not planar, or difficult to access, which surfaces would be difficult accessible by conventional screen printing or labeling techniques. The marking of the article to be decorated is done remotely, without contact with it.
Such a laser decor technology can be implemented in installations
When marking with the laser, the article to be decorated may be fixed, the beam laser being moved according to the decor to achieve. Alternatively, the beam laser is fixed, the article is moved according to the decoration motif to be produced.
By way of nonlimiting examples, said first and second metals are chosen by the following metals or alloys: Copper, Nickel, Chroime, Silver, Gold, Zinc, Bronze.
Still other metals can be used, depending on the colors, the aspect, or the contrast sought.
The invention consists, apart from the arrangements set out above, of a number of other provisions which will be explained below, with regard to nonlimiting exemplary embodiments, described with reference to the figures, among which - Figure 1 shows schematically the main steps of a embodiment of the method according to the invention, and - Figures 2A and 2B show a sectional view of a galvanized article before laser marking (figure 2A), and after laser marking (figure 2B).
In the description which follows, the article to be decorated 1 is a cap intended for equip a flask. This plug 1 is formed from a support 2, obtained by molding of a galvanizable thermoplastic material such as ABS. The support 2 includes a cylindrical side skirt 3 of circular section, intended to come in commitment with the neck of the bottle. One end of the side skirt 3 is closed by a wall transverse 4 of square section, greater than the section of the side skirt cylindrical 3.
6 The support 2, resulting from the molding, is caused to pass through a plurality of baths of so as to, by electroplating, cover its surface with a coating constituted of a plurality of metallic layers.
Electroplating and electroplating are metallization techniques of a object, using the conductivity properties of the forming material the object. In in the case of electroplating, the thermoplastic materials used are reports conductors by a multi-step process during which the object to galvanize is soaked in a series of baths.
In a first step, called "satin finishing", we create micro roughness on the surface of the object so as to generate anchor points for the deposit metallic. For this, organic bridges of its structure are broken during of this step. In the case of materials containing butadiene, such as ABS, the butadiene microspheres arranged on the surface of the material are destroyed, thus leaving room for micro-cavities intended to form such points anchor.
In a second step, called "catalysis", stable colloidal palladium is incorporated in the micro-cavities.
In a third step, called "acceleration", the protective colloid is removed so as to activate the palladium.
In a fourth step, the object is made conductive by an operation, called of "Chemical nickel plating".
Then, by electrolysis, one or more layers of metal are deposited on the Nickel layer. Typically, a layer of Copper can be deposited on which one deposits a layer of Nickel, Bronze, Chromium or gold. The layer of copper to reinforce and stiffen the thin deposit of Nickel.
7 As it appears in the cross-sectional view of the plug 1, shown in FIG. 2A, the galvanized coating is formed by a superposition of a layer of Nickel 10, a layer of Copper 11, and a layer of Chrome 12.
The thickness of the three layers of metal thus deposited Ni / Cu / Cr, can range from Nm at 30 pm.
After this electroplating step, we decorate the cylindrical side skirt 3 of plug 1 by means of a laser 7 of the Nd: YAG type. To do this, we do sweep the surface corresponding to the decoration 6, by a laser beam 5, so as to literally "burn" at least the outermost layer 12 of the article to decorate. So in our example of an electroplating formed of a layer of Nickel 10, a layer of Copper 11, and a layer of Chrome 12, the beam laser removes the layer of Chrome 12 on the surface corresponding to the decor to be perform 6, thus revealing the latter. A cross section of the skirt lateral 3 of the cap, after marking with the laser beam, is shown in the Figure 2B. Due to the elimination of the layer of Chrome 12 on the surface corresponding to the decoration 6, the latter is then in the colors of the layer of copper 11. Alternatively, it is possible to remove the two layers more exterior, revealing a decor with the color of nickel.
According to a specific embodiment, the wavelength of the laser beam is 1064 nm. Its power is 9 W. The surface to be decorated is one distance of about 200 mm from the laser, and the focal distance is 160 mm.
The aesthetics of the decorations obtained by implementing the method according to the present invention is fully compatible with the needs of the so-called "luxury" products, such as perfumes, or other cosmetic products or from similar care.
In the foregoing detailed description, reference has been made to modes of preferred embodiments of the invention. It is obvious that variants can be there made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed above after.
