Abstract

Various articles, including game balls, doll heads, fruit and vegetables, glass or other transparent objects, including recording media cases have water-based ink applied thereto. An article support positioned and moved through an ink jet printer, the print head of which may be positioned in plural home positions transversely of the path of the article support so as to apply water-based ink to multiple articles.

Claims (12)

1. The method of printing on the surfaces of board supported media, including the steps of moving an ink jet head back and forth for a specific distance for printing on the board supported media within a specified range from a standard home position, moving a specified distance in the direction of movement of said ink jet head to establish another home position, and printing an image on the board supported media next to said first printed image by moving the said ink jet head back and forth for a specific distance from said newly established home position.
2. The printing method of claim 1, including a water based ink image receiving layer on the surface of the board supported media, printing on the surface of said image receiving layer with water based ink, and forming a protection layer on the surface of said printing with ultraviolet ray resistant or absorbing or water resistant material.
3. The method of claim 2 in which said water based ink image receiving layer and said printing are applied to a game ball.
4. The method of claim 2 in which said printing is applied to a food product with water resistant surfaces and said image receiving layer is applied to said water based layer and said water based ink are made by water absorbent materials that are safe for human consumption.
5. The method of claim 2 in which said printing is applied to a food product with a water absorbent surface that provides said water based ink image receiving layer and said water based ink is made with materials that are safe for human consumption.
6. The printing method of claim 1, including manufacturing a doll head by painting the first material and a second material with printed surfaces using an ink jet head and water based ink, and applying said first and second materials to the front and rear of said doll head.
7. The method of claim 6, including forming a protection layer on the surface of each of said materials having at least one characteristic of ultraviolet ray resistance or absorption or water resistance.
8. The method of claim 7, including the step of creating a water ink absorbing image receiving layer on the surface of each said material prior to printing.
9. The method of providing tombstone identification including the steps of forming an indented portion on the surface of the tombstone, providing a panel for insertion in said indented portion, before inserting said panel, forming a water ink absorbent image receiving layer on the surface of said panel, printing on the surface of said image receiving layer, creating an ultraviolet ray resistant or absorbent protection layer on the surface of said printing layer and inserting said panel in said indented portion.
10. The method of water resistant printing on transparent material including the steps applying a primer with an ultraviolet ray resistant or absorbent characteristic on the back of said material, forming a water based ink image receiving layer on the surface of said primer, applying specific printing on the surface of said image receiving layer, and forming a printing protection layer with an ultraviolet ray resistant or absorbent characteristic on the surface of said printing.
11. The method of manufacturing a mirror, including the steps of forming a transparent protection layer with an ultraviolet ray resistant or absorbent characteristic on the back of a glass panel, forming a water ink image receiving layer on the surface of said protection layer, applying printing on the surface of this image receiving layer, forming a water proof transparent layer on the surface of said printing, and coating a reflecting film such as silver or the like on the surface of said water proof layer.
