Abstract
This is a cookware (pot, pan or such other cooking vessels) that has a thermometer as an integral part of it situated, say, on the handle or anywhere else on it, say, on its side. Such thermometers may be used to indicate the temperature of the metal bottom or of the inside (along with that of any contents therein) of the cookware. This invention also includes the lid of a cookware where a built-in thermometer shows the temperature of the inside of the cookware when this lid is covering it.
Description
Patent Application : COOKWARE WITH THERMOMETER
Inventor : SOBHANA BARDHAN
Page-2 ~of8) Background of Invention During household (or in restaurant, etc.) cooking, often it is a great help if the cooking temperature can be reasonably ascertained instead of being simply guessed.
Normally a cooking thermometer is used for this purpose. Such a stand-alone thermometer, however, does not indicate the temperature of the metal bottom of the cooking vessel lying in contact with the source of the heat. This latter temperature is often important, say, to indicate when the heating cooking vessel is ready for oil or food for frying to be poured or placed there.
Also, if a cookware vessel has an integrated thermometer to show the temperature of the inside of the cooking vessel (along with that of any food being cooked therein), it adds to the ease of cooking and cleaning, etc..
The present invention uses an integrated thermometer built in on the cooking vessel itself or on the lid of this cookware for the purpose of determining such temperatures.

Description of Invention Like numbers in parenthesis here refer to like numbers in the drawings in the Figures 1,
2,3,4,5,6,7and8.
Figure 1 and 2 are perspective views of a cookware vessel (3) with handle (1);
on this handle a thermometer (for example, a bimetallic type of thermometer) (2, 22) is built in.
The sensor (21) of this thermometer is built in within the metal bottom (4) of this cookware, and the connector (201 ) is running through the metal bottom and over the side (and through the handle in Figure 1 ) of this cookware to the said thermometer (2, 22).
In Figure 1, the said thermometer is a round one with a pointer (233) indicating the temperature on the calibration (244). .
In Figure 2, the said thermometer (22) is of a long narrow tubular type. (See also Figure 3 for a blown-up view.) Figure 3 is a blown-up view of the handle of the cookware vessel shown in Figure 2, the thermometer (22) showing more clearly the temperature indicator (23) and the calibration of the temperature (24).
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a lid (33) (having a knob-handle (11)) of a cookware vessel with an integrated thermometer (222) built-in within the wall of this lid. The indicator ((231 ) and calibration (241 ) are visible through a glass cover ((251 ) of Figures 5 & 6) on the outer surface of this thermometer. The sensor ((210) shown in Figures 5 and 6) of this thermometer lies on the inner underneath surface of this lid. At this place where the said sensor is situated (with the thermometer right across on the other outer side), the said wall of this lid may have to be a little thicker than the rest. The inner wall ((261 ) of Figures 5 & 6) of this thermometer is sealed being within (and common with) the inner wall of this lid.
Figure 5 shows a cross-section of the said lid ((33) of Figure 4) with its wall (333) incorporating the thermometer (222) (shown in cross-section here along with its indicator (231 ), calibration disk (271 ), sensor (210) and connector (211 ) -the glass cover (251) being on the outer side of the lid, and the inner wall (261) of this thermometer being on (and common with) the inner wall of the lid.
Figure 6 is a blown-up view of the thermometer (222) in Figure 5 ((331 ) representing adjacent parts of the lid).
Instead of on the lid, such a thermometer that indicates the temperature of the inside of the cookware (along with that of any contents therein) may be placed anywhere on the Patent Application : COOKWARE WITH THERMOMETER
Inventor : SOBHANA BARDHAN
Page - 4 (off cookware itself, say, on the handle or on the side, such as shown in Figures 7 and 8, the sensor then being placed on the side wall (31 ) of the cookware (at a reasonably low level to accommodate smaller amounts of contents). As in Figure 7, if such a thermometer (223) (shown in cross-section here) ((31 ) representing adjacent parts of the wall of the cookware and the rest of the legends being as in Figure 6) is placed on the side of the cookware, it could be more or less in the same fashion as when it is placed on the lid.
Figure 8 shows another variation of mounting such a thermometer (224) on the handle (1) of the cookware; here the sensor (221 ) is placed just under the inside of the wall of the cookware. Here the connector is (212), and the rest of the legends are as in Figure 1. A
long narrow tubular type, corresponding to Figure 2 and 3, may also be designed for such a thermometer (not shown in drawing here since it is very obvious from Figures 2 as well as 3 and 8 appropriately combined). There may also be various combinations of examples shown here, such as a dial type thermometer on the wall of the cookware with calibrations and indicator as in Figure 7 but with sensor and connector as in Figure 8.
It is to be noted that it is possible for one single unit of cookware vessel of the present invention to have any one or both of the two above said varieties of thermometers, namely, one to indicate the temperature of the metal bottom of the cookware and the other to indicate the temperature of the inside of the cookware (along with any contents therein).
It is also to be noted that there may be minor variations of the representative thermometer examples described here; these will be deemed as within the purview of the present invention.
The above description is meant to show that the whole thermometer system (that is, along with its indicator, calibration, sensor, connector, etc.) may be encased within the bottom, the wall and the handle of the cookware, or within the wall of the lid (all with any required glass covers on the outside to allow for reading of the thermometers) - the whole system being appropriately heat-proof, water-proof and, preferably, dishwasher safe.
Figure 1 and 2 are perspective views of a cookware vessel (3) with handle (1);
on this handle a thermometer (for example, a bimetallic type of thermometer) (2, 22) is built in.
