Abstract

A system is disclosed for positioning downhole tools in a borehole such as a cased or lined oilwell, wherein the system is adapted to control the vertical and rotational position of the tool within the borehole. The system uses a plurality of guide slots (5) or ledges which form a spiral on the inner surface of a tubular.
