Abstract

There is disclosed a portable device for machining holes of the type which have pins assembled therein. The device can be used for repair of holes such as those which mount pins or parts used in large equipment, for example, equipment used to pump oil. The device is a generally rectangular plate formed of a steel or the like with threaded holes near the comers of the plate, with pins threaded in the holes.
The plate is provided with a concave notch on one of it's sides, and a pin is provided adjacent the notch. The plate allows for the mounting or assembly of a portable milling cutter.

Description

This invention can be considered of the type of tools generally used in maintenance, and general repair. To be more specific it is a Portable Device to Machine Holes which is used to carry out repairs of the holes of joints "in situ", such as the ones that have pins and parts which belong to equalizer pitmans of large machines, of the kind of those used to pump oil.-Its main purpose is to allow the use of a simple, cheap and fast means, which can be used in the machine itself, in order to solve usual problems in the aforementioned joints in a quick and efficient way.-It is worth mentioning that this invention allows for a perfect repair of the holes on the machine itself with a very limited dismantling on the machine, consequently allowing for the machining to be carried out "in situ".-Therefore, the main purpose of this invention is to carry out an important repair in the works, without having to dismantle the part completely and later having to carry it to a repair shop where it could be machined in the appropriate apparatus.-The use of the invention reduces repair costs dramatically, for it also reduces the time it takes to do it, which means the machine is not working for a very short time, due to the fact that it is not necessary to dismantle it, carry it to the maintenance repair shop, and wait for it to be ready.-It is important to bear in mind that pumps are usually located in large areas, far apart from one another, as well as from urban areas where maintenance repair shops and appropriate machinery are available.-Pumps of oil wells in production are made up of a wrist pin assembly moved by an equalizer pitman installed on a crank. The above mentioned equalizer pitman, of large proportions includes a line of holes, one of which is chosen after having considered the travel. Then the assembling is carried out by means of a joint pin, which goes through it.
The great effort, which stresses the pieces, along with the continuous work of the pump produce detrition, which results in the oval shape of the holes, which, leads to an unwanted friction. One the other hand, corrosion produced by salty water and the weather gradually destroys the adjacent holes, which makes it impossible to use them in case of control or emergencies.-This is the moment when these holes have to be repaired. In the past, doing so meant carrying heavy equipment to the oil ell in order to be able to dismantle the equalizer pitman, to load it on a truck and carry it to the workshop where it was machined. The oil well was unproductive until the whole operation was completed which increased the cost of the repair due to the lack of production during the repair. Once the damaged holes had been repaired, the machine was reassembled and restarted.-This technology represents a clear drawback in this timing because the preparations for the job itself involves the correct assembly of the part to be repaired, in the lathe or in the milling cutter, with all the difficulties that its large size and heavy weight involve whenever it is necessary to move it and carry it from the well to the workshop and vice versa.-The aforementioned invention has assigned a clearly simple device to solve all the described inconveniences. This device can be easily assembled in the machine itself, does not need for the equalizer pitman to be dismantled, and it allows the use of a portable milling cutter to prepare the hole for the size of the steel jacket it needs. The steel jacket is taken to the site as a spare part, which has been previously prepared taking into account available records and special features typical of each machine.-The device object of this patent of invention is made up of a steel square plate, with threaded holes in its cornersand pins threaded in them. The plate has a concave notch on one of its sides, next ~to which a pin, similar to the one, which joins with the hole to be repaired, is fixed.
The said plate allows for the assembly of a portable milling cutter. A
previously machined bushing is assembled to the newly machined hole.-It is very important to the highlight that the present invention is described in this document a portable device used in the repair of machinery used in the oil industry as an example of its possible uses, but not as a limit of all the other possibilities of use which device offers.
What's more, in some opportunities, its components will be changed by equivalent ones, and we will still be describing the same invention.-In the following paragraphs, as an example, there is a detailed description of an advisable use, making reference to the drawings attached hereto.-DRAWINGS:
Figure 1 shows a perspective drawing of the disposition of the invention.
Figure 2 shows a perspective drawing of the object of invention.
Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view of the device when it is used tp make repairs in an equalizer pitman.
Figure 4 shows a schematic drawing of the invention when it is used to machine a hole.-In the figures above mentioned, same numbers refer to same or equivalent P~._ DESCRIPTION:
Figure 1 shows the device to machine joint holes in machine parts, made up by a strong plate -1- made of a resistant material such as iron, in which four corners there are threaded holes -2- in which pins are threaded in -3-.
Apart from that, there is another group of holes -4- to which the small plates -5-can be assembled.-The plate -1- has a concave notch -7- on one of its sides; adjacent to which there is a ring of holes -8- for their corresponding screws with which a pin -9- is assembled on the opposite front. The above mentioned pin -9- has the same diameter as the ones which operate in the machine as joint pin, assembled to one of the holes -0- in repair. The pin -9- has one of its ends threaded -10- to which a nut -11- is adapted. Its other end is flat and has several threaded holes distributed in the shape of a ring.-The tool machine -M- is a portable-milling cutter similar to the ones used to work on the cylinders of car engines. Its line shaft -12- ends with a toolholder -13- which holds the cutting tool -14-, to machine the walls of the hole -0- in an oversize, so as to place and assemble the bushing -15- by dowels -16-which are threaded in to the correct positions.
OPERATION
Once the invention parts have been identified, the description of the device is completed by a functional, operational description of its parts.-The operational relation of the parts is quite simple and is based on the description of the operation carried out to make the repair.-Once the need to make repairs in a joint of the kind of the one in an equalizer pitman, as in the example above, has been checked, the part of the joint to be repaired is dismantled and the plate -1- is assembled in an adjacent hole to the one that needs repair. For that purpose, a pin -9- with the appropriate diameter is inserted in it, assembling in the plate -1- by means of the bolts inserted in the holes -8- which measures have previously been calculated considering the hole that needs to be used. Once it is correctly placed, the screws -3- are used to level it, after which the note -11- is tightened. The tool machine -M- is the assembled and centered by means of the small plates -5- and their corresponding pins threaded in any one of the holes -5-.-The wall of the damaged hole is machined to an oversize pre-determined by the bushing -15- which will be used as spare part.-Before the bushing is assembled by means of a power unit, the work is measured to check that the hole has the right size and shape. The bushing is fixed with dowels, which are threaded in through part of the cranck -17-adjacent to the hole and part of the bushing, avoiding in this way, a mutual rotation due to dragging.
The above is just one of the possible constructions to use this invention, and the explanation of its possible operation and use. The present documents are completed with the enclosed vindication clauses.-Once the nature of the invention, its applications, and how its main idea can betaken to practice have been described and determined, the following is stated as invention and with patents right:
