Abstract

A seating furniture comprises a seating for a human being, lighting means for illuminating the seating from overhead and for illuminating the environment around the seating such as a wall and a ceiling, mounting means for supporting the lighting means, spanning overhead from the left portion of the top end of the seating to the right portion of the top end of the seating, and a pair of diagonal beams. The seating for a human being may be a chair, a sofa or a sofa bed. The lighting means may comprise at least one point source of light, or at least one line source of light. The mounting means may be semi-circular, semi-elliptical or semi-rectangular, and may have a circular, elliptical or rectangular cross section. The mounting means may be a translucent light pipe which diffuses light. This invention relates to seating furniture, and the principal use of the invention is for overhead lighting of the seating furniture.

Description

Description Title ~ Seating Furniture with Integrated Overhead Lighting Technical Field ~ This invention relates to seating furniture, more particularly to a seating furniture with integrated overhead lighting.
Background Art ~ There are many instances where it would be desirable to be able to have overhead lighting for illuminating a seating and the environment around the seating.
~ A number of utility and design patents disclose seating furniture such as chairs, sofas, and sofa beds with different configurations.
~ U.S. Patent 5 911 496 discloses "Furniture having a neon display". The invention has a neon tubing display device inside a free standing table.
~ U.S. Patent 5 931 556 discloses "Configurable furniture integrated ambient lighting system and method". The invention is limited to an integrated lighting system in modular office furniture.
. These prior art arrangements do not have overhead lighting means integrated into a seating furniture.
Description of the Invention . It is a primary object of the invention to provide a seating furniture having overhead lighting means integrated into the seating furniture.
~ A seating furniture comprises a seating for a human being, lighting means for illuminating the seating from overhead and for illuminating the environment around the seating such as a wall and a ceiling, mounting means for supporting the lighting means, spanning overhead from the left portion of the top end of the seating to the right portion of the top end of the seating, and a pair of diagonal beams.
Brief Description of the Figures in the Drawings ~ In drawings which illustrate embodiments of the invention:
Figure 1 marked "Prior Art" is a perspective view of a conventional seating furniture with a separate lighting;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a seating furniture with integrated overhead lighting according to the invention;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the invention along line I-I of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the invention along line II-II of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a sectional view of another embodiment of the invention;
Figure 6 is a sectional view of another embodiment of the invention; and Figure 7 is a sectional view of another embodiment of the invention.
Modes for Carrying Out the Invention ~ In one conventional seating furniture shown in Figure 1 marked "Prior Art", lighting means 2-A for illuminating the seating is securely attached to mounting means 3-A for supporting the lighting means, and is placed beside a seating 1-A for a human being. The lighting means 2-A is usually a point source of light such as a halogen lamp or an incandescent lamp.
~ In this conventional arrangement, the lighting means 2-A is not directly overhead of the human being sitting on the seating 1-A. Moreover, the lighting means 2-A takes up an extra floor space.
~ In one embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 2, a seating furniture comprises a seating 1-0 for a human being, lighting means 4-0, mounting means 5-0 for supporting the lighting means 4-0, and a pair of diagonal beams 7-0.
~ The seating 1-0 has a top surface. The top surface of the seating 1-O has a rear-left end and a rear-right end.
~ The lighting means 4-0 comprises at least one point sources of light, such as a high-efficiency light-emitting diode, a halogen lamp or an incandescent lamp. The mounting means 5-0 is substantially semi-circular or semi-elliptical, and has a substantially rectangular cross section.
~ The lighting means 4-0 downwardly illuminates the seating 1-0 from overhead for providing an optimal reading condition. The lighting means 4-0 also upwardly illuminates the environment around the seating 1-0 such as a wall and a ceiling. The lighting means 4-0 may also illuminate an object, such as a hologram or a picture frame, which is hanging on a wall above the mounting means 5-0.
. The mounting means 5-0 for supporting the lighting means 4-0 has a bottom-left end and a bottom-right end. The mounting means 5-0 spans overhead from the rear-left end of the top surface of the seating 1-0 to the rear-right end of the top surface of the seating 1-0, and is securely attached to the seating 1-0.
~ The bottom-left end of the mounting means 5-0 is capable of mounting on the rear-left end of the top surface of the seating 1-0. The bottom-right end of the mounting means 5-0 is capable of mounting on the rear-right end of the top surface of the seating 1-0.
~ Each diagonal beam 7-0 spans from the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0 in order to securely attach the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0.
. The mounting means 5-0 may be made of plastic, metal, glass or wood. The mounting means 5-0 may be detachable from the seating 1-0.
~ The seating 1-0 for a human being may be a chair, a sofa or a sofa bed.
~ The lighting means 4-0 may be placed on the top end of the seating 1-0 or is hidden in the seating 1-0, and the mounting means 5-0 may be a translucent light pipe which diffuses light.
~ Figure 3 shows a sectional view of the seating furniture along line I-I of Figure 2. Figure 4 shows a sectional view of the seating furniture along line II-II of Figure 2.
. In another embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 5, a seating furniture comprises a seating 1-0 for a human being, lighting means 4-0, mounting means 5-0 for supporting the lighting means 4-0, and a pair of diagonal beams 7-0. The lighting means 4-0 comprises at least one point source of light, such as a high-efficiency light-emitting diode, a halogen lamp or an incandescent lamp. The mounting means 5-0 is substantially semi-circular or semi-elliptical, and has a substantially circular or elliptical cross section.
~ Each diagonal beam 7-0 spans from the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0 in order to securely attach the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0.
~ In another embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 6, a seating furniture comprises a seating 1-0 for a human being, lighting means 4-0, mounting means 5-0 for supporting the lighting means 4-0, and a pair of diagonal beams 7-0. The lighting means 4-0 comprises at least one line source of light, such as a fluorescent lamp or a neon lamp. The mounting means 5-0 is substantially semi-circular or semi-elliptical, and has a substantially circular or elliptical cross section.
~ Each diagonal beam 7-0 spans from the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0 in order to securely attach the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0.
. In another embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 7, a seating furniture comprises a seating 1-0 for a human being, lighting means 4-0, mounting means 5-0 for supporting the lighting means 4-0, and a pair of diagonal beams 7-0. The lighting means 4-0 comprises at least one line source of light, such as a fluorescent lamp or a neon lamp. The mounting means 5-0 is substantially semi-rectangular, and has a substantially rectangular cross section.
~ Each diagonal beam 7-0 spans from the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0 in order to securely attach the mounting means 5-0 to the top end of the seating 1-0.
