Abstract

In a table device for supporting office related equipment and providing a general area to perform other general light tasks with regards to computer operation or general writing of formats and reading. It is known to have long arms protruding lengthwise from the top of the attachment unit, and able to be maneuvered in such a way thus enabling the attached table to be adjusted manually by the user and to the user's desired position. The main base of the devise more overly called the "chair attachment unit" is attached to the back of the chair. The attachment unit is designed in such a way that it provides a solid, secure fit to the upper portion of the back of the chair, not allowing any side to side or up and down movement whatsoever. This invention enables the user to work in a more convenient and comfortable position compared to other present, conventional methods.

Description

S eci rcation (The Chair Buddy) .~. .__.
1. This invention relates to a manually operative device, for providing a convenient workable platform, or table.
It is common with conventional platforms such as in desks for example for the user most times to be in a bent or arch-like position, as this is not the most comfortable position to be in, back problems can become a nuisance. As it is of course necessary for the user while working, to require the use of a table or desk to work on, and newer styles of desks are designed to address this problem somewhat. Most desks of the present design and nature however are insufficient, as they allow for very little maneuver ability by the user, and as they are usually centralized in a non-maneuverable position and are not completely or partially designed to be connected to a chair in any way, and therefore cannot provide for convenient positioning of the user for any varying lengths of time.
2. I have found that these disadvantages can be overcome by creating a maneuverable mufti-use table not in anyway attached or connected to any other desk or device and can be attached independently to the back of a chair. Attached to the chair is the chair attachment unit, r'2... maneuverable arms extend from the chair attachment unit and run down one side of the chair.
Connected to the bottom of the lower maneuverable arm is the table, which runs lengthwise across the width of the front of the chair. By manually maneuvering the arms, the table then can be placed in a convenient workable position by the user. The wooden table with its rounded corners is apployable, adjustable and convenient. It has a one inch leather padded wrist rest, running from end to end on one side of the table, to provide comfort while typing or doing other work. The table can be adjusted to any convenient position desired, while the user is sitting in a leaning back, or forward position in the chair. The table (drawing 2, figure 1) is 30 inches long by 10 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch in thickness.
It is supported by a durable metal 25 inch by 5 inch under frame (drawing 3, figure 4) which is located and attached by ten, 1 /4 inch screws to the underside of the table, and extends to one end of the table. At the other end it is connected to three, 5/8 inner connected square metal arms (drawing 3, figure 3) by a threaded lock-nut fastener with a knob-type handle (drawing 3, inset 1 ).
The table top can be raised or lowered by up or down and back or forward movements of the three metal arms working in unison with each other (drawing 3, figure 3). The table top (drawing 2, figure 1) can also be rotated forward or back to suit the user's sitting position, requirements while in the chair. The three metal arms are connected together at two pivot points (drawing 3). The inside and outside walls at each pivot point and table connection have '/2 inch dia. spider like surface grooving to provide a tighter grip for non-maneuverability once the table is in a desired position (drawing 4, inset 1 ). The arm connecting points are also secured together by a lock-nut fastener (drawing 3, inset 1 ) to allow for full up and down movement and tightening in to position of the metal arms (drawing 3, figure 3). The lower arm (drawing 3, figure 3) is 24 inches in length. The upper arm (drawing 3, figure 3) is 10 inches in length and the top straight up and down pivot arm is 3 inches in length. The lower portion of the pivot arm (drawing 3, figure 3) has a round '/2 inch diameter and 1 inch long metal sleeve pin (drawing 3, figure 3) which when inserted into the ~~ inch sleeve opening at the top of the chair attachment unit, provides for a snug fit, at the same time allowing for maneuvering of the top pivot arm, in a rotating direction, thus allowing for left or right turning motion of the extended arms and table. The adaptable chair-table concept eliminates the need for the user to be positioned over a desk for long lengths of time. It provides a chance for the user to be comfortable while Working at home or at work. The table can also be pushed out of the way temporarily to continue working at their desk without leaving their chair.
3 The chair attachment unit(drawing S, figure 1 )is 9 inches iong and S 1 /2 inches wide.It has a 1 inch outside diameter sleeve that comprises a 9/16 diameter opening and rises 2 inches above the top-centre of the C.A.U.to accommodat the 1/2 inch diameter,2 inch long metal arm swivel pin.The sleeve also has a 1/2 inch threaded opening on one side, one inch above the C.A.U (drawing S inset2) to accommodate a 1 /2 inch threaded lock fastener for securing the metal arm arm swival pin. There are two S inch long by 4 inch wide separate metal wings which are attached to the C.A.U. on a track, (drawing S inset 1, fi-2).Tightning of the S 1/2 inch fastener handle(drawing S) allows the movable front wing to maneuver inwardly on to the back of the chair, l/4inch foam rubber pads on the inside of the wings provide for a gental secure grip once the wings are tightened into place. The attachment, chair, table concept has many wonderful advantages and can provide many great benefits for its user. The strategy behind this concept is for providing convience for the user and it does that in many different ways.It is attachable in that it can be attached to the back of most office chair designs. It is also adaptable in that it can be mounted to the back of almost any office chair desired,or it can be left on the chair,or folded up and stored almost anywhere when not in use.

Claims (3)

1. A manual operable table unit for conveniently performing light tasks.
Comprising a table and three movable metal arms which are adapted to maneuver freely to allow the table to be maneuvered into a desired position and which are embraced at the top by a chair attachment unit that which is secured to the top back of the chair.
2. A table unit as defined in claim # 1 in which the metal arms and table are connected in such a way that while working in unison they become adjustable for maneuvering to any desired position for a person, while sitting in the chair.
3. A table unit as defined in claims # 1 & 2 I n which the table unit is attachable in that it attaches directly to the back of the chair, and adjustable in that while working as a complete unit, it allows a person to perform light tasks, such as, reading, writing and operating a computer while conveniently sitting back and/or away from a desk or other, while in their chair.
