Description

,., SETTING NOTIFICATION METHOD OF TERMINAL SETTING INFORMATION
AND COMMUNICATION TERMINAL USING THE SAME METHOD
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a communication terminalforreceivingtransmissioninformationtransmitted by radio or by transmission line.
Description of the Related Art Use of a pager enables reception not only of personal message to--be-exchanged between persons but also of so-called information message, for example, such as news, weather information, economicalinformationsuch asstock prices and restaurant information or the like and also enables display of such information as a display image of pager.
(Hereinafter, both personal message and information message are referred to as "normal message".) In order to receive distribution of information messages explained above through a pager, it is requested to previously set address data for information message (hereinafter referred to as address data for information) to a pager. Namely, since-it is enough for information _ message to be used by the pager of user who wants to receive _ distribution of message, it is requested to previously set the address data for information to the pager of a user who wants to receive distribution of information message.
The address data for information which is required to receive distribution of information message explained above is provided to a pager of user who has requested the distribution of information message by communication. For example, when a user proposes, by telephone and mail or the like to a news provider, to receive distribution of message, the news provider transmits, to the pager of a user who has proposed distribution of news, the information to set or change the address-data for information to the pager as the _ setting change message (hereinafter, referred to as "system message" or "setting update message").
The pager of a user who has proposed news distribution fetches the setting update message addressed to the same user by receiving it and sets or updates the terminal setting information such as address data to be automatically stored in the own memory based on the fetched setting update message .
Thereby, the information message transmitted with addition of address data for information can be received and may be used through the pager.
As explained above, a user of pager is freed, in order to receive distribution of information message such as news, from troublesome manipulation such as setting of address data for information to the pager and moreover is freed from bringing his own pager into the message provider in order to request the setting of address data for information.
Meanwhile, when a pager receives the setting update message addressed thereto, it forcibly enables operation of an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) provided therein. Thereby, the information suggesting the setting or update of the terminal setting information to be stored in the memory can be displayed on the LCD of the same pager and the predetermined alarm sound is forcibly generated in order to accurately notify that the pager has received the se-tting update message address thereto and own terminal setting information is set or changed.
It is because if a user of pager does not know the setting condition of his own pager, various disadvantages may possibly occur. For example, a user does not have any knowledge to be able to or not to be able to receive information message distribution and thereby a user does not use a new service even when a user can receive distribution of new service through update of setting of the pager or a user tries to receive distribution of new service even if the setting of pager is not yet changed to receive distribution of new service and thereby to think generation of trouble in the pager.
However, a request from service providers to realize, ~if possible, transmission of the setting update message to receive distribution of new services at midnight from the viewpoint of network traffics is recently increasing.
Namely, when the setting update message is transmitted at midnight where the network traffic is not so high, the setting update message can be transmitted more reliably to the pager of distant party.
When the setting update message is transmitted at midnight, a user of pager is probably sleeping and therefore it is thought that the pager is not carried by a user and is not placed near the user. Therefore, a user is not aware of the display suggesting that the terminal setting information has been set or updated, allowing unwanted consumption of pager battery in the higher possibility.
Moreover, as explained above, when a user has received the setting update messageaddress to himself, thepredetermined alarm sound will forcibly be generated, resulting in possibility for interruption of user's sleeping.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Considering the background explained above, the present invention is intended to provide a communication terminal which solves the problems of related arts explained above and surely notifies it, when information is set to the terminal or setting of terminal is changed, to a user depending on the information transmitted.
According to one aspect of the present invention, a communication terminal comprises, in order to solve the problems explained above:
message memory for storing received normal messages addressed to own terminal;
setting update means for setting or updating the terminal setting information based on the setting update message of the receivecT-terminal setting information addressed to own terminal; and notifying means for notifying reception of the normal message and/or the setting update message or storing thereof to the message memory;
thereby a notification message for notifying that the terminal setting information has been set or updated by the setting update means and the result of such setting or update is stored in the message memory and it is also notified by the notifying means.
According to such communication terminal of the present invention explained above, when the settsng update message addressed to own terminal is received, the sect-ing update means sets or updates the terminal setting information and the notification information suggesting that the terminal update information is set or updated or the result of such setting or update is stored in the message memory like the normal message and it is also notified that the notification information is stored.
Thereby, since the notification information is also stored in the message memory, it is possible to verify the notification message after it is read from the message memory.
Moreover, when the normal message and notification information are stored in the message memory, it is then notified to a user. Accordingly; -a user can surely know that the information addressed to himself is stored in the message memory. The information stored in the message memory can surely be verified, even if it may be the normal message or the notification information.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the communication terminal is the terminal as explained above and further comprises:
notification setting means for setting, based on the input by user, whether reception of the normal message should be notified or not by operating a direct notification means such as ringing of bell or vibration; and means for controlling whether the direct notification means is operated or not depending on the setting by the notification setting means when the setting update message is received.
According to the communication terminal of the present invention, whether reception of normal message should be notified or not in direct by the notification means can be set by the notification setting means. Moreover, whether the notifying means should be operated or not in direct in order to notify that the setting update message has been received can also be controlled depending on the setting of notification setting means.
The normal message is provided for each user of communication terminal for transmitting the message only to the target communication terminal and has the higher importancefor the communication terminaluser. Therefore, when a user has made the setting so that even when the normal message having the higher importance is rece~.ived, it is not notified in direct by the notifying means, it can be thought that a user desires not to notify the reception of the setting update message addressed to this user himself.
Therefore, even when the setting update message addressed to own terminal, the notifying means is controlled in direct, by the setting update means, whether to notify or not that the setting update message addressed--to own terminal exits, depending on the setting of the notification setting means.
Thereby, when the normal message addressed to own terminal is received and when the setting update message addressed to own terminal is received, the setting by the notification setting means is used in common and only when a user of the communication terminal makes the setting to desire the notification, the fact that the normal message or setting update message addressed to own terminal exists can be notified in direct through the notifying means.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the-communication terminal comprises message memory for storing the received normal message addressed to own terminal;
setting update means for setting or updating the terminal setting information based on the setting update message of the received terminal setting information addressed to own terminal;
notifying means for notifying reception of the normal message and/or the setting update message; and notification setting means for setting the operation mode of the notifying means based on user input.
According to another aspect of the present invention, when the normal message addressed to own terminal is received, whether it should be notified or not by the direct _ g _ notification means such as bell ringing or vibration can be set by a user through the notification setting means.
Moreover, when the normal message addressed to own terminal is received, the direct notifying means is controlled whether to notify or not the reception of the normal message addressed to own terminal, depending on the setting of the notification setting means.
As explained above, the normal message is an information having a higher importance for a user of the communication terminal. Therefore, when it is set not to notify reception of the normal message by the direct notifying means, it is thought that a user also desires not to notify that the setting update message addressed to own terminal has been received.
Therefore, even when the setting update message addressed own terminal is received, the direct notifying means is controlled, depending on the setting of the notification setting means, whether it should be notified by the information setting means or not that the setting update message addressed to own terminal has been received.
Thereby, when the normal message addressed to own terminal is received and when the setting update message addressed to own terminal is received, the setting by notification setting means is used in common and only when the user of communication terminal desires the setting for notification, it can be notified that the normal message or setting update message addressed to own terminal has been received.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
A preferred embodiment of the communication terminal of the present invention will be explained with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the embodiments explained below, the communication terminal of the present invention is applied, as an example, to a pager.
. Fig. 1 is a block diagram of the pager of this embodiment .
As illustrated in Fig. l, the pager of this-embodiment is formed by providing an antenna 1, a receiving circuit 2, a demodulating circuit 3, a control circuit 4, an EEPROM 5, a RAM 6, a clock circuit 7, an escape key 8, a jog dial 9, a j og dial control circuit 10 , an LCD driver 11, an LCD 12 , an alarm sound output circuit 13 and a speaker 14.
The antenna receives the data of the radio signal from the pager base station. The receiving circuit 2 amplifies the data received by the antenna 1 and then supplies the signal to the demodulating circuit 3. The demodulating circuit 3 demodulates the data received by the receiving circuit 2 and also controls the receiving circuit 2. The demodulating circuit 3 sends the demodulated data to the control circuit 4.

The EEPROM S stores individual address information of various devices of the pager and the individual pieces of address information for each service which are required for receiving distribution of various kinds of information messages such as news, economical information and restaurant information or the like. Moreover, the RAM 6 is a memory for storing the received messages. The clock circuit 7 provides the current time. This clock circuit 7 is also capable of obtaining the time when the messages are received.
The j og dial 9 is formed as a key manipulating means having the role--of the up/down key and the role o~--determination key. In the case of this example, the jog dial 9 is formed of a rotatable circular dial knob as illustrated in the external view of pager of Fig. 2.
The jog dial 9 plays a role as an up/down key through rotation of';,this dial knob. Moreover, the jog dial 9 also effectuates a function as a non-lock type push button when it is depressed toward the center of rotation, namely toward the center of dial. The function of this push button also plays a role as the determination key.
As illustrated in Fig. 2 , the pager of this embodiment further comprises an escape key 8. When this escape key 8 is depressed, it provides the effect inverted from that when the jog dial 9 is depressed as the push button toward the center of rotation. Namely, the escape key 8 forms the input button key playing the role to return the image to that before determination.
Manipulation input of the jog dial 9 is detected by the jog dial control circuit 10 and its manipulation input causes the information, which indicates any one of rotation of the dial knob and depression of dial knob, to be sent to the control circuit 4 from the jog dial decoder 10.
The LCD driver 11 is a processing means to receive the . control of control circuit 4 and display the display information from the control circuit 4 to the LCD 12. The alarm sound output circuit 13 controls the speaker 14 and causes an alarm (buzzer) to sound in order to notify the condition when the receiving data such as message is received from the pager base station.
The control circuit 4 'analyses the received data from the demodulating circuit 3 and also receives and analyses the manipulation input information from the jog dial control circuit 10 and then executes the processes depending on the result of analysis. Moreover, the control circuit 4 executes the process for storing the necessary information to RAM 6, executes the setting or update of information of EEPROM 5 and sends to the LCD driver 11 the information to display the predetermined display image to the display area 12D (refer to Fig. 2) of LCD 12. Namely, the control circuit 4 controls the entire part of this pager and it also realizes this control through the microcomputer.
The pager of this embodiment is designed to have two messagefoldersfor personalmessage and information message in order to store the received message. These pieces of information are, as explained previously, stored in the RAM
6 . The personal message is a message to be exchanged between persons. Moreover, the information message is the . information to be transmitted through the base station of pager from the side of-providers who are providing information such as news, weather information or the like.
Moreover, as explained above, in order to receive distribution of information messages, for example, such as news, weather information or the like, the address data for information to receive the information message must be set previously to the pager.
The pager of this embodiment receives by radio, as the setting update message, the information to newly set to the pager or to update the setting of pager which is already set thereto such as the address data for information and also sets or'update the terminal setting information such as the address data to be stored and held in its own memory, namely EEPROM, in the case of this embodiment, based on the received _ 14 setting update message.
Figs . 3A and 3B are diagrams for explaining the format (Fig. 3A) of the so-called normal message to be used by a user of the pager such as the personal message and information message transmitted by radio and the format (Fig.3B) of the setting update message (system message) transmitted to set or update the terminal setting information of the pager.
Aa illustrated in Fig. 3A, the normal message is comprises address data field 101, message type field 102 and the message text field 103 for the message itself. The address data in the field 101 is the address data assigned-for each pager.
In the case of personal message to be exchanged between users of pager, the individual address data of target pager is transmitted by the field 101, while in the case of information message, the';common address data for information assigned to the user requested to receive distribution of such information message is transmitted by the field 101.
Thereby, the pager having the address data which is identical to that of the field 101 can receive, fetch and use the personal message and information message addressed thereto.
Moreover, as illustrated in Fig. 3B, the setting update message comprises the address data field 101, message type field 102, setting update command field 110, terminal setting update data field 111, user notification text field 112. The address data field 101 and message type field 102 are identical to the format of normal message illustrated in Fig. 3A.
Therefore, from the message type in the field 102, the pager can discriminate whether such message is the normal message to be used by the user of pager or the setting update message to be used for setting or update of the terminal setting information of the pager.
In addition, from the setting update command-.in the field 110, whether the setting process of -terminal setting information should be performed or the update process such as update or deletion of the terminal setting information already set to the pager should be performed is instructed to the pager and the terminal setting information to be actually set or updated is distributed to the pager by the terminal setting update data in the field 111.
Moreover, the user notification test in the field 112 is the display information to notify that the terminal setting information has been set or updated or the display information to notify that setting or update of the terminal setting in-formation fails when the setting or update of the terminal setting information cannot be performed normally.

The pager of this embodiment sets or updates, when the terminal setting message as illustrated in Fig. 3B is transmitted to own terminal, the terminal setting information of own EEPROM 5 based on this terminal setting information.
In this case, immediately after the setting or update of the terminal setting information of own terminal have been performed depending on the setting update message, the pager of the first embodiment does not display information for notifying that the setting or update of the terminal setting information of own terminal has been conducted. In place of this, if the setting or update of the terminal setting information of own terminal is performed based on the received setting update message, the user notification text in the field 112 (refer to Fig. 3B) of the setting update message is stored, ,like the message text of the personal message, in the folder for personal message of RAM 6.
As explained above, since the user notification text of the setting update message is stored in the RAM 6, a user can surely verify later the user notification message like the personal message. Thereby, the pager battery can be prevented to be unreasonably consumed and when the setting or update of own terminal setting information is performed based on the setting update messaged addressed to own terminal, it can be notified that setting or update of terminal setting information of own pager have been performed reliably, when the setting or update of own terminal setting information has been conducted depending on convenience of a user of pager.
Next, the process during reception of message transmitted by radio in the pager of this embodiment will then be explained with reference to the flowchart illustrated in Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is the flowchart for explaining the process when the message is received by the pager of this embodiment.
As explained above, in the pager of this embodiment, the message received by the antenna 1 and receiving circuit 2 is demodulated by the demodulating circuit 3 and is then supplied to the control circuit 4. Next, the control circuit 4 determines whether the address data included in the supplied message is identical to own address stored in the EEPROM 5 or not (step 20.1).
When it is determined that the address included in the message from the demodulating circuit 3 is not identical to own address in the determination process of step 201, the process illustrated in Fig. 4 is completed. When the address included in the message from the demodulating circuit 3 is determined to be identical to own address in the step 201, the control circuit 4 determines the message type of the received and demodulated message, based on the message type in the field 101 (refer to Figs. 3A, 3B) in the message from the demodulating circuit 3.
When the supplied message is determined as the normal message in the determination process of step 202, the message text in the field 103 (refer to Fig. 3A) of the supplied normal message is stored in the RAM ( step 203 ) . As explained above, the control circuit 4 is provided with the function to store the received normal message.
Moreover, in this embodiment, when the message .
supplied to the control circuit 4 is the personal message, the message text is stored in the folder for personal message of RAM 6 by the process of step 203 and when the message is the information message, the message text is stored to the folder for information of RAM 6.
Meanwhile, when the message type of message from the demodulating circuit 3 is determined as the setting update message (system message) in the determination process of step 202, the control circuit 4 sets or updates (step 204) the terminal setting information of EEPROM 5 based on the setting update message from the demodulating circuit 3 and stores the user notification text in the field 112 (refer to Fig. 3B) of the setting update message to RAM 6 (step 205) .

In this embodiment, the user notification text is stored in the folder for personal message of RAM 6 . As explained above, the control circuit 4 is provided with the function to set the terminal setting information and to store the user notification text.
The user notification text stored in the folder for personal message of RAM 6 in the step 205 is the information to be displayed on the display area 12D of LCD 12 of pager in order to notify to the user that the setting update message is received and setting or update of the terminal setting information of pager of this embodiment has. been performed.
After the message text of normal message is stored in RAM 6 by the process of step 203 or after the user notification text of setting update message addressed to own pager is stored to RAM 6 by the process of step 205 , the mark indicating a that the received message is stored in RAM 6 is displayed during the waiting mode (step 206.
Figs. 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D are diagrams for explaining an example of the display images displayed on the display area 12D of LCD 12 in the pager of this embodiment. Fig. 5A is a diagram for explaining the display image during the waiting mode of the pager of this embodiment.
- In the pager of this embodiment, when the message text of the normal messaged addressed to own pager is stored to RAM 6 in the step 203 or when the user notification message of the setting update message addressed to own pager is stored to RAM 6 in the step 205, the mark (icon) 302 indicating that the receiving message is stored in RAM 6 is displayed on the display area during the waiting mode as illustrated in Fig.
5A.
The pager of this embodiment is capable, by displaying this mark 302, of notifying ~t to a user when the normal message addressed to own pager is received or when the setting update message addressed to own pager, even in such a case that the message is stored in RAM 6. _ Here, the mark 301 indicates, in Fig. 5A, that the pager of this embodiment is located in the place being capable of receiving the message. If it is located in the place being not capable of receiving the message because the received field intensity is too low, this mark 301 is not displayed.
Moreover, the display 303 is the current time fetched from the clock circuit 7.
In the pager of this embodiment, after the mark 302 indicating that the received message is stored in RAM 6 is displayed in the step 206, the alarm for notifying that the message addressed to own pager is received is generated (bell ringing in the step 207) and the process illustrated in Fig.
4 is completed.

After the process illustrated in Fig. 4 is completed, when a user of the pager of this embodiment manipulates the j og dial 9 and escape key 8 to display a list of the personal messages of RAM 6 (hereinafter, referred to as the message list image) , the message list image illustrated in Fig. 5B
is displayed on the display area 12D of LCD 12 of the pager of this embodiment.
The message list image illustrated in Fig. 5B is the image stored in the folder of personal message of RAM 6. In . the case of pager of this embodiment, character display can be made in four lines, each line including 20 characters, on one display image. In this message list image, the 18 characters of heading portion 305 of the message stored in RAM 6 and the message number 304 corresponding to each message are displayed.
Moreover, when four or more messages are stored in the folder for personal message of RAM 6, the heading portions of all messages can be displayed through the scroll of the display information by rotating the jog dial 9.
In the message list image illustrated in Fig. 5B, the messages of the message numbers from 01 to 03 are message texts of the personal message for the user of pager and the message having the number 04 of the message number 304 is the user notification text of the setting update message to be stored in RAM 6 when the setting or update is performed to the terminal setting information of EEPROM 5.
Moreover, in the pager of this embodiment, when the target message is inversely displayed by rotating the jog dial 9 in the message list image of Fig. 5B and the jog dial 9 is depressed, the inversely displayed message is read from RAM 6 and is then displayed on the display area 12D of LCD
12 .
Fig. 5C is a display image of the personal message of the pager of this embodiment. This figure is an example in whip a message 03 of the message numbers 304 is displayed from the message list image of Fig. 5B. In the display image of this personal message, as illustrated in Fig. 5C, the personal message itself 307 and message number 306, corresponding to this message, namely 03 , in this case, are displayed. Thereby, a user of pager of this embodiment can display the personal message addressed to own pager stored in RAM 6 for viewing purpose in the display area 12D of LCD
12.
Fig. 5D is a user notification message display image of pager of this embodiment. This figure is an example of display in which the system message 04 of the message numbers 304 is displayed from the message list image of Fig. 5B. In the user notification message display image illustrated in Fig. 5D, the user notification text (message itself) 307 and the message number 306 corresponding to the message, namely 04 in this case, are displayed as in the case of the display image of the personal message of Fig. 5C. Thereby, a user of the pager of this embodiment can read the user notification message stored in RAM 6 when he wants to read for the verification purpose.
As explained above, in the pager of this embodiment, even when the setting update message addressed to own pager is received and own terminal setting information is set or updated based on the received setting update message, the--LCD 12 is never activated immediately to display that the terminal setting information is set or updated. However, the user notification text of the setting update message is stored in RAM 6 so that a user can verify when he desires the message.
Namely, when the own terminal setting information is set or updated on the basis of the received setting update message, it is never displayed immediately after such setting or update that the terminal setting information has been set or updated and therefore the battery of pager is never consumed unreasonably.
- Moreover, since the user notification message is stored in RAM 6 and therefore a user can verify, when he uses the pager, such message through display thereof, the user can surely know the setting or update of the terminal setting information based on the setting update message.
In addition, even when the message text of personal message is stored in RAM 6, or even when the user notification message of setting update message is stored in RAM 6, if the message is stored in RAM 6, the mark to notify this is displayed. Therefore, a user of the pager will surely detect the message stored in RAM 6.
Moreover, when the message text of personal message is stored ~-RAM 6 and when the user notification text of setting update message is stored in RAM 6, the current time which is detected from the clock circuit 7 of pager is added at the time of reception or storing to the text to be stored.
Thereby, it is possible to detect when the message has been received and stored in RAM 6. Thereby, it is clearly known from which timing the information message can be received by detecting when~the user notification message of setting update message being stored in RAM 6 has been received or stored.
In addition, even if any trouble has been generated in the pager, it is possible to know when such trouble has been generated by setting or updating the terminal setting information basedonthesetting update message. Therefore, adequate measure can be taken quickly for such trouble.
[Second Embodiment]
Meanwhile, as explained above, when the setting update message addressed to own pager is received, the pager is caused to forcibly issue the predetermined alarm sound.
However, if the setting update message is transmitted at midnight, when the alarm sound is issued, it will probably interferes sle~ping of the user.
On the other hand, during reception of the personal message, whether reception of personal message should be notified or not can be previously determined by the user of -pager. Fig. 6 is a diagram for explaining the display image for setting notification/non-notification in order to set, by the alarm sound, whether reception of personal message should be notified or not, when the personal message is received in the pager of this second embodiment.
In the pager of this second embodiment, when the jog dial 9 is rotated and depressed, the control circuit 4 displays the setting image for notification/non-notification illustrated in Fig. 6 on the display area 12D
of LCD 12.
As illustrated in Fig. 6, the setting image for notification/non-notification executes the display 401 indicating that the relevant image is the setting image and the display indicating selection item (ALERT) 402 for instructing notification and selection item (NO-ALERT) 403 for instructing non-notification. In the pager of this second embodiment, ALERT 402 and NO-ALERT 403 are sequentially displayed inversely when the jog dial 9 is rotated.
If the jog dial 9 is depressed when the ALERT 402 is displayed inversely, thecontrol circuit4establishes, when the personal message is received, the setting to notify such personal message to EEPROM S. Moreover, if the jog dial 9 is depressed when.~e NO-ALERT 403 is displa~red inversely, the control circuit 4 establishes, when the personal message is received, the setting not to notify the personal message to EEPROM S . As explained above, the control circuit 4 has a function as the notification setting means to set notification/non-notification to EEPROM 5 when the personal message is received.
As explained previously, the personal message is a highly important message for user of pager. Therefore, in such a case that reception of the personal message is set not to be notified to the user by the direct notifying means such as generation of alarm sound, it may be thought that the user desires that reception of setting update message addressed to own pager is never notified or the user does not desire the notification of reception of setting update message.
Therefore, the pager of the second embodiment controls, when the setting update message is received, whether this reception should be notified or not on the basis of the setting for notification/non-notification of the reception of personal message. The pager of this second embodiment is also structured in the same manner as the pager of the first embodiment explained with reference to Fig. 1 and Fig.
2. Therefore, with reference to Fig. 1 to Fig. 3, the pager of this second embodiment will then be explained below.
Fig. 7 is a flowchart for explaining the process for receiving the message of the pager of the second embodiment.
In Fig. 7, the processes of the steps from 201 to 206 are similar to those of the steps from 201 to 206 during reception of the pager of the first embodiment illustrated in Fig. 4.
Therefore, in the pager of second embodiment, after the mark 302 notifying that the message text of personal message is stored in RAM 6 and that the user notification text of setting update message is stored in RAM 6 is displayed in the process of step 206, the control circuit 4 determines (step 501) what setting for notification of personal message is set to EEPROM S through the setting image for notification/non-notification of reception of the personal message explained with reference to Fig. 6. Namely, the determination process of step 501 determines the notification/non-notification of reception of personal message.
When the notification setting is determined as "non-notification"inthe determination process of step 501, the control circuit 4 never generate the alarm sound even when the message received and demodulated is the normal message such as personal message or is the setting update message (system message) and completes the process of Fig.
7 . --Moreover, when the notification setting is determined as "notification" in the determination process of step 501, the control circuit 4 controls the alarm sound output circuit 13 to generate the alarm sound from the speaker 14.
As explained above, even when the setting update message addressed to own pager is received, it can be notified or not on the basis of the setting for notifying or not the reception of personal messaged addressed to own pager.
Therefore, when a user of pager has determined that he does not want to notify the reception of personal message after he is sleeping, even when not only the personal message -but also the setting update message as the system message are received, it is possible not to notify reception of these messages by setting of notification/non-notification of personal message to non-notification mode.
Thereby, even when the setting update message is set to be transmitted, for example, at midnight, a user of pager is never interfered to sleep. In addition, since the user notification information of setting update message is stored in RAM 6 of pager as in the case of the first embodiment explained above, not only the personal message but also the user notification text can be verified, for example, by displaying the message stored in RAM 6 on the display area 12D of LCD 12 after.he has woken up.
Reception of the personal message can also be notified by vibration of a vibrator by providing the vibrator to the pager. Namely, as the direct notification means, the alarm sound or vibration may be used.
When setting to use any one of alarm sound or vibration is made through the setting display image by displaying the setting image of the direct notifying means by rotating and depressing the jog dial 9, reception of personal message can be notified with alarm sound or vibration depending on the selection by a user of pager.
Moreover, even when vibration is selected, it can also be controlled to drive or not to drive the vibrator depending on the setting for notification/non-notification which can be set previously. In this case, even when any one of the personalmessage andsetting updatemessage (system message?
is received, it can be notified with the alarm sound or vibration or not.
In addition, for example, even when reception of personal message is notified through vibration, if the setting update message is received, it can be notified with the alarm sound that the setting update message is received or that the setting update message is received and setting or update of the terminal setting information has been made.
- As explained above, even when. different direct notifying means are used for the personal message and setting update message, it is of course possible to control the notifying means, for example, to the notification/non-notification modes even for the setting update message, based on the setting of notifying means to notification/non-notification mode of the personal message.
Here, the pager of this second embodiment is designed, like the pager of first embodiment explained above, to store, to RAM 6, the user notification text of the setting update message when the setting update message addressed to own pager is received but not to display, immediately after the - terminal setting information has been set or updated, for notifying that the terminal setting information has been set or updated based on the setting update message.
However, it is also possible, immediately after the setting update message addressed to own pager is received, that reception of setting update message and setting or update of the terminal setting information are displayed on the display area 12D of LCD 12 and the notification/non-notification mode is controlled depending on the notification setting for instructing notification or non-notification when the personal message, which is previously requested to notify or not with the direct notifying means. such as alarm sound or vibration, is received.
Accordingly, for example, when battery capacity of pager is sufficiently left and when the battery loaded to pager can easily be replaced any time required, it is also possible that it can be displayed to notify that the setting update message is received and setting or update of terminal setting information is performed and the setting for notification/non-notification can be controlled based on the setting for notification by the direct notifying means.
In this case, it can be prevented to interfere the sleeping of a user of pager with the direct notifying means such as alarm sound or vibration.
When the setting update message addressed to own pager is received in the first and second embodiments explained above, the user notification text of setting update message is stored in the folder for personal message of RAM 6, but it is of course possible to store this user notification text to the folder for information of RAM 6.
When the setting update message addressed to own pager is received, the user notification information of setting update message is stored in RAM 6 but it is not limited thereto.
For example, it is possible to previously store the message text to EEPROM 5 in order to display such information on the disp-lay area 12D of LCD 12. --Moreover, it is also possible that the information for instructing which message stored in EEPROM 5 of the pager should be used is transmitted using the user notification message of setting update message and thereby the message textcorresponding to this instruction information is stored in RAM 6 as the user notification text. As explained above, the message to be stored in RAM 6 when the setting update message is received may not only the user notification text of setting update message but also the message text prepared for the pager.
Moreover, in the first and second embodiments, when the personal message is received or when the setting update message are received, it is notified, after the message text of personal message or user notification text of setting update message is stored to RAM 6, that the personal message or setting update message addressed to own pager is received or stored, but the process is never limited thereto. For example, when it is detected that the personal message or setting update message addressed to own pager is received, it is notified first in the case where the notification setting is made for notification, and thereafter the message can be stored to RAM 6.
In addition, in the first and second embodiments explained-above, when the personal message is received and the message text of personal message is stored to RAM 6, or when the setting update message is received and the user notification text of setting update message is stored in RAM
6, it has been notified, by displaying the mark for notifying that the received message addressed to own pager is stored to RAM 6, to the user that the received message addressed to own pager is stored to RAM 6.
However, the method for notifying that the received message addressed to own pager is stored in RAM 6 is never limited only to the display of this mark. For example, the character string such as "Received" may be displayed or it is also possible that when a user of pager has manipulated the pager, the predetermined alarm sound is generated or the voice message such as "a message is received" is generated to notify that the received message addressed to own pager is stored in RAM 6.
Moreover, in the pager of the first and second embodiments, various kinds of alarm sounds such as various kinds of melodies may be used as the alarm sound and this alarm sound may also be changed as required depending on the purpose of notification.
Moreover, in the first and second embodiments, the ' address data for information required for receiving distribution of information message is automat'~.cally stored to EEPROM 5 of pager, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
For example, the present invention can also be applied to the case where a new program is transmitted to the pager with the setting update message and this program is registered to EEPROM 5 of the pager in order to load the new functions to the pager.
Namely, the present invention can also be applied to the cases where setting, update and deletion may be made with the system message for transmitting the operation environment to the pager, for example, for setting or updating the terminal setting information of pager or for loading new functions to pager.

Moreover, in the embodiments explained above, the communication terminal of this invention is applied to the pager but the invention is never limited only to the pager .
The present invention can also be applied various kinds of radio communication terminals such as portable communication terminal which realizes communication by radio and various kinds of wired communication terminals which realizes communication through the cable.
As explained above, according to the present invention, even when the setting update message (system message) is received, since a_message indicating the terminal setting update is stored to the memory like the normal message, it can be verified any time when a user desires.
Moreover, since the a message indicating terminal setting update can be displayed in the same manner as the normal message, the user interface of communication terminal can be made clear and increase of programs for realizing display of message for indicating terminal setting update and display of normal message can be controlled. Thereby, the present inventioncan provide thecommunication terminal which can be manipulated and used easily.
Moreover, even when the setting update message is received, notification or non-notification mode can be controlled through the setting for notification or non-notification for reception of the normal message.
Accordingly, even if the setting update message is transmitted at midnight, it will never interfere user's sleeping by setting the notification mode to the non-notification side.
