FORMWORK AND REINFORCING TO BUILD NEW COLUMNS INSITU
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
This invention is a formwork to build a concrete column to support an overhead load and said column to rest on a foundation footing, or pier or other base structure, so that said formwork acts both as a confining member to receive the poured concrete and as a strengthening member.
This invention is manufactured by producing a cylindrical cardboard outer layer of various thickness of cardboard and various diameters and length, lined with varying layers of high tensile strength, high modulus Fiber Reinforced Plastic.
The manufacturing process will require incorporating the existing manufacturing process of producing cylindrical cardboard forms for confining the space within which new concrete columns are poured, together with a new process that will laminate layers of Fiber Reinforced Plastic fibers of glass, carbon, aramid or basalt to the inner lining of the cardboard formwork.
The finished product will not only have the confining property of a typical form but will have a large capability to provide external reinforcement to the newly poured and cured column.
The advantage of this system will be to reduce the amount of internal reinforcement required and to reduce the design size of the columns. This in turn reduces dramatically the weight of the structure, thus reducing the weight on the foundation, which then in turn reduces the overall cost of building the structure.
