Abstract
A two piece storage unit display case having an outer frame and an inner frame pivotally mounted within the outer frame, the inner frame holding the item to be displayed.
Description
-I-DISPLAY CASE
This invention relates to a two-piece storage unit display case for use with compact discs, videos, record albums, or the like. More specifically, this invention relates to a single or multiple unit display case which can be placed upon a desktop or on a shelf, or the like, or hung upon a wall.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Many people have favourite compact discs, videos, record albums, or the like which, as well as playing, they would like to display. Sometimes, a particular song may have a special meaning to a person such that, one may wish to present one's loved one with a copy of a compact disc that can be displayed in a personalized manner.
Accordingly, it would be advantageous to have some type of display case which can be used to display the personalized compact disc, video, record album, or the like.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of this invention to provide a storage unit display case which can be used to display one's favourite compact disc, video, or record album.
Accordingly, in its basic configuration, there is provided a wall or desktop compact disc holder whereby the compact disc is held in place in an inner frame which is pivotally supported within an outer frame. The inner frame is structured such that the compact disc can be easily inserted into, and removed from, the inner frame.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention will now be described with reference to the attached drawings in which:-Figure 1 is an isometric view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view looking in the direction of A in Figure 1 and showing the outer frame only;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of a second embodiment of the invention;
Figure 4 is a schematic view, at a reduced scale, of a third embodiment of the invention;
and Figure 5 is a schematic view, at a reduced scale, of a fourth embodiment of the invention.
Referring specifically to the figures, the display case consists of an outer frame 1 and an inner frame 3. The outer frame has side members 5, a top member 7 and a bottom member 9.
The top member has screws, or another type of fastening device 11 which secures it to the side members 5, while screws, or a similar type of fastening device 13 secure the bottom member 9 to the side members 5. The inner frame 3 has side members 15, a top member 17 and a bottom member 19 which are secured together at the corners by screws or like fastening means 21. The inner frame 3 is pivotally secured within the outer frame 1 by pins 23 which extend through the side members 5 and into the lower member 19. Short coil springs 25 are placed over pins 23 between the inner and outer frames to centrally position the inner frame 3 within the outer frame 1. To provide clearance between the top member 7 and the top member 17 when the inner frame 3 is pivoting within the outer frame l, the upper back corner 27 of top member 17 is chamfered.
A rear cross strap 29 is secured to the back of side members 5 to limit rearward movement of inner frame 3 within outer frame 1 and also to provide a means for hanging the display case upon a wall by using fasteners (not shown) which can pass through holes 31.
Inner frame 3 has a rectangular slot 33 through top member 17, and rectangular grooves 35 along the inner faces of side members 15 and along the top face of bottom member 19 which align with slot 33 such that a compact disc, or similar item, can be slid through the slot and retained within the grooves.
To specifically locate the inner frame within the outer frame when the case is being used for display purposes, a lock is positioned within the top member 7. A slot 37 is located through the central region of top member 7 and a latch 39 is positioned within the slot 37 and is pivotally located upon pin 41. A stop pin 43 is positioned through top member 7 and below latch 39. A
spring 45 of coil shape or of any other design type, is secured within slot 37 at the rear end of latch 39 to bias the latch downwardly to a locked position. The latch 39 is pivoted by placing one's finger in slot 37 to contact the top face of the latch 39, and after the inner frame 3 is pivoted within the outer frame 1, the latch 39 can be released so that the narrow end will slip within the top of slot 33.
A plaque 47 is secured upon bottom member 9 to accept engraving of, a message suitable for the occasion or, the subject matter of the compact disc.
In Figure 3 there is shown the same display case as in Figure 1, with the addition of a flat base 49 which is secured at an angle to the rear side of bottom member 9 and side members S by screws, or other fastening means (not shown), such that the display case can be placed upon a desktop or shelf, or the like.
Figure 4 shows, schematically, a display case for four compact discs which has four inner pivotally mounted frames, and either four outer frames joined together or a unitary outer frame to hold the four inner frames.
Figure 5 shows, schematically, a case for holding four compact discs in a different arrangement to those shown in Figure 4, and again comprises four inner frames pivotally mounted within either four outer frames joined together or a unitary outer frame.
Both of the multiple unit cases shown in Figures 4 and 5 can be structured to hang upon a wall or stand upon a desk or shelf, or the like as previously described with reference to the single display cases of Figs. l, 2 and 3.
It will thus be seen that there has been described an invention which will be of great use and a novelty in providing a tasteful way to display your favourite compact discs in a personalized manner.
It will also be noted that although the inner and outer frames of the display case will preferably be made from wood it could be manufactured from a variety of different materials and can be constructed in a different manner whilst still achieving the basic object of the invention.
It can be hung horizontally or vertically and can be constructed to be able to stand on a flat surface. It is also front loading for easy access to the compact disc when one wishes to play it. It can also be manufactured, as shown, in multiple units of any desired number required.
Furthermore, by varying the size and relative dimensions of the display case it can be made to accommodate videos, record albums, or any other flat packaged item.
This invention relates to a two-piece storage unit display case for use with compact discs, videos, record albums, or the like. More specifically, this invention relates to a single or multiple unit display case which can be placed upon a desktop or on a shelf, or the like, or hung upon a wall.
