Abstract

A detaching device is provided for use in detaching an electronic article surveillance tag from an article, in which the tag is held to the article by an attaching means, a part of which is releasably prevented from being withdrawn from the body of the tag. The tag body is provided with an arcuate channel through which an arcuate detacher probe can be guided for releasing the attaching means part. A detaching device comprises an arcuate probe configured to be received in and guided by the arcuate channel in the tag body and means for moving the arcuate probe in the arcuate channel to release a spring clamp within the tag from the part of the attaching means, thereby allowing the tab to be released from the article.
